PCLinuxOS Live CD
by Baron＠linuxmaniac.net 28 Dec '12

28 Dec '12

Hi Alexandre, I've now got your live CD installed on my machine... I'm quite impressed though I do seem to have moments of very odd behaviour. For instance I used "Network Center" to disconnect my wired ethernet prior to doing some other things. But didn't reconnect before I shut the machine down. Starting the machine up this evening I discover that I now have "Dolphin" started up and three instances of "Gkrellm" all on the same desktop. Most curious ! Things work mostly as I expect. Good work. Thankyou for sharing. Sent from Trinity Kmail on PCLOS -- Best Regards: Baron

installing trinity on wheezy.
by Calvin Morrison 27 Dec '12

27 Dec '12

Hi, I am having trouble installing trinity on wheezy. I tried adding the sources for sqeeze to my /etc/apt/sources.list but that did not work because of dependency problems. I then changed those lines from squeeze to wheezy. Unfortunately that only worked half way. There is no build-deps built for wheezy available so I removed those lines. When I try and install kdebase-trinity it does not find the package. My /etc/apt/sources.list looks like this: deb http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/trinity/trinity-v3.5.13/debianwh… main deb-src http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/trinity/trinity-v3.5.13/debianwh… main deb http://debian.lcs.mit.edu/debian/ wheezy main non-free contrib deb-src http://debian.lcs.mit.edu/debian/ wheezy main non-free contrib deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free Any ideas? Massive update
by Marvin L Jones 25 Dec '12

25 Dec '12

I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 with Slavec's Trinity 3.5.11.1 backport repositories. For some time now -- since the 'official' release of 3.5.11.1 -- I've only been seeing Ubuntu updates. There has been no Trinity updates. I've been meaning to ask here what I should've done to move to the more 'official' Trinity repositories. But, holding a Black Belt in Procrastination, I have yet to do that. This morning I found an update announcement. To wit: The following packages will be upgraded: akregator-trinity ark-trinity arts-trinity kaddressbook-trinity kamera-trinity kappfinder-trinity karm-trinity kate-trinity kbstate-trinity kcontrol-trinity kcron-trinity kdeadmin-kfile-plugins-trinity kdebase-data-trinity kdebase-kio-plugins-trinity kdebase-runtime-data-common-trinity kdebase-trinity kdebase-trinity-bin kdegraphics-kfile-plugins-trinity kdelibs-data-trinity kdelibs4c2a-trinity kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins-trinity kdemultimedia-kio-plugins-trinity kdenetwork-filesharing-trinity kdenetwork-kfile-plugins-trinity kdepasswd-trinity kdepim-kio-plugins-trinity kdepim-kresources-trinity kdepim-wizards-trinity kdeprint-trinity kdesktop-trinity kdm-trinity kdnssd-trinity kfind-trinity kghostview-trinity khelpcenter-trinity khexedit-trinity kicker-trinity kiconedit-trinity kimagemapeditor-trinity klipper-trinity kmag-trinity kmahjongg-trinity kmail-trinity kmailcvt-trinity kmenuedit-trinity kmilo-trinity kmix-trinity kmousetool-trinity knetworkconf-trinity knode-trinity knotes-trinity konq-plugins-trinity konqueror-nsplugins-trinity konqueror-trinity konsole-trinity kontact-trinity kooka-trinity korganizer-trinity kpackage-trinity kpager-trinity kpdf-trinity kpersonalizer-trinity kpf-trinity kppp-trinity krdc-trinity kregexpeditor-trinity krfb-trinity kscreensaver-trinity kscreensaver-xsavers-trinity ksmserver-trinity ksnapshot-trinity ksplash-trinity ksvg-trinity ksysguard-trinity ksysguardd-trinity ktip-trinity kwalletmanager-trinity kwin-trinity libarts1-akode-trinity libarts1c2a-trinity libartsc0-trinity libdbus-1-tqt libdbus-tqt-1-1c2 libindex0-trinity libkcal2b-trinity libkcddb1-trinity libkdegames1-trinity libkdepim1a-trinity libkleopatra1-trinity libkmime2-trinity libkonq4-trinity libkpimexchange1-trinity libkpimidentities1-trinity libkscan1-trinity libksieve0-trinity libktnef1-trinity libmimelib1c2a-trinity libpoppler-tqt libpythonize0-trinity libtqt3-integration-trinity pykdeextensions-trinity python-trinity-trinity 102 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 102MB of archives. WHAT!!??? Is this copasetic? Anybody else seeing this? I haven't seen a "Heads Up" here about a large, impending update. Maybe there's something screwy within my system and/or my apt configuration files.... I'll hold off on the update until I hear back from someone. PcLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster release ready to download!
by Alexandre Couture 19 Dec '12

19 Dec '12

Hello everyone! My PCLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster is ready to download! I call it non-official because it doesn't come from the PCLOS team and since it contains software coming from outside of their repos, it is also not supported by them. It can be seen as a whole as the much-loved PCLOS 2007, but fully updated and upgraded. It is a complete system that can be used as a LiveDVD or it can be installed (from the LiveDVD). Major apps pre-installed (in no special order): -PCLinuxOS 2012 base system with KDE 4.8 stripped out and replaced by TDE 3.5.13.1 -Amarok -K3b -Firefox -Dolphin -Konqueror -LibreOffice -Quanta plus -VirtualBox -SuperKaramba -Synaptic -VLC media player -Kaffeine -BleachBit -GParted -QtCurve theme -Baghira theme -The GIMP -QCad -Kontact -Skype -KMyMoney -P7Zip -All PCLinuxOS regular configuration apps -Localisation Manager, to translate your system -LibreOffice Manager System requirement: A x86 computer with at least 256mb of RAM. It is a 32bit system, but it can be installed on a 64bit system too. It is available in a 4-parts zip archive. (Please note that Ark doesn't support muti-part archives, so use another decompression app.) http://www.filefactory.com/file/6ofocsyy5fmh/Readme_First.pdf http://www.filefactory.com/file/4888f7njxdsp/Md5_sum.txt http://www.filefactory.com/file/6bpff7km3nrh/tde_pclos_nonofficial_25nov201… http://www.filefactory.com/file/1kwsx39htb53/tde_pclos_nonofficial_25nov201… http://www.filefactory.com/file/6bpmoz5mhup9/tde_pclos_nonofficial_25nov201… http://www.filefactory.com/file/c15yohy7k6v/tde_pclos_nonofficial_25nov2012… It would be very appreciated if someone can host the .iso file in a mirror! If you like what you see, you can consider giving some money to the Trinity Desktop Environment project! Give me your comments! -Alexandre

Fedora17 + Trinity usage repport
by Patrick Serru 17 Dec '12

17 Dec '12

Hi all, The display is very "unstable", and I have, from time to time to reconfigure the display at 1280x1024. I guess the problem comes from XOrg. Sometimes there are one or two small windows indicating changes in definitions, but it is incomprehensible, at least because they overlap (!). Problems related to the BIOS and memory usage, if I understood correctly, previously caused the message "Press Ctrl + D to continue" in console during the system start. If I remenber correctly, the kernel (?) said that there was some cheksumm error or so, in the block of memory. I just had now, after a soft restart, to press the hardware "Reset" button (cold reset) to get out of an endless "memory dump", in the console... The "Instability" on the definition of the display may come from there, too, because the hot reset does not give the same results as the cold reset. I am ready to believe that Grub2 is (again) involved. I looked phosphorus savers unnecessary for LCD screens, but fun to watch, a little. I noted that they speak of KDE in "Banner", the default saver, and "Fireworks" (if I'm not mistaken). After selecting Atlantis (Open GL), I had to press the "Reset" button on my machine to get out of the situation. Is it a lack of patience? Too bad "Ctrl + Alt + Backspace" has been removed for safety reasons, and that any other possibility to kill X no longer available without disconnecting the computer. A look at SysGard: I did not find the CPU temperature sensor... Regarding the language used, the applications of "current" user are in english. Only "Root" applications are in French. I wanted to try to run: yum install trinity-i18n-French as simple user, but of course I did not have the rights, while SELinux is still "disabled". Surprised to see a different graphic "style" in a window, I investigated and found that it was a Nautilus window. I did not know Nautilus: it is the "Finder" of Gnome! I do not remember how this window had been opened. There is an icon in the closing Trinity window. This icon is KDE's. There's about a second between the graphical opening of a dialogue and the associated KDE sound! What should I do for the "Via8237" (in my case) to be selected instead of "Pulse Audio", in kmix? Cheers Patrick

[trinity-users] Fedora 17 or TDE bug repport 2++
by Patrick Serru 14 Dec '12

14 Dec '12

Hi All, I'm french (nobody's perfect), living in Peru and using usually a Spanish keyboard, with a french "writing" system. For historical reasons, the marking of my keyboard is U.S., and this is a chance in the case of this bug, because, at the time of the "login" (with Gnome, see previous post), the system interprets the keyboard as U.S.! Network configuration does not work. I tried kcmshell [kdeinit] kcm_knetworkconfmodule in a super-user console, but after validation, a dialog asking to wait opened, and the situation was infinitly fixed. Now, I have no network. Hence the question: how does one configure the network from Trinity, a console and / or from Gnome with Fedora? Note that I did not re-boot after this problem, so, I dont know if the network configuration is definitively lost. More general problems: At the time selinux was still anabled on the targeted system, I tryed some "sudo" commands, and it did not work because "user is not sudoers". How a user that comes from WindOverDose or did never study the use of selinux can react to this message? I guess each of you, dear ADVANCED users, had been confronted to a ALMOST functional system, at the "boot" of a 2.6.33.x kernel (ie). Investigating, you discovered that it was because the kernel can not insert modules of a system 2.6.26.x (ie)... I feel that this is the case Grub2! I guess Grub2 loads a kernel (the one of his host system probably) then made his small business to finally boot which corresponds to the user's selection. Booting without removing the old kernel. I suppose that because Grub2 only starts the host system it is installed in! It is then ridiculous, when installing a distribution, to scan all disks and all partitions, for offering to start (linux) systems that they contain! Imagine the frustration of a user who can not re-boot the system he use everyday! Luckily, I boot my everyday Oss 11.1 system from a CD. There is a more general congruency Linux problem: why the shell does not interpret "media:/whatever/whatever"? More generaly, I have some doubts: is there a developer that use the systems on which he works for everyday? Please, note that until here, (I think that) the testing on a virtual system does not help developpers to see these problems... I have not managed to transfer all my mails from KMail 3.5.10 release 21.13.1 to TDE 3.5.13. Could someone help, please? Did I dream ??? Konqueror being open on "a hard disk / partition", that is to say, URL display beginning with "media:", the hidden directory ".Mail" was not reflected in the list while the directories named ".m*" (as ".mozilla", for example), appeared! This was not the case for a Konqueror window with URL displaying "/home/user", for example. There were true questions in this post: - how does one configure the network from Trinity, a console and / or from Gnome with Fedora? - Is there someone that could help me transfering mails from KMail 3.5.10 release 21.13.1 to KMail TDE 3.5.13? Thank you. Cheers, Patrick

Fedora 17 or TDE bug repport

Hi All, Fedora 17 + TDE user. I created the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop, with the line: DISPLAYMANAGER=/opt/trinity/bin/kdm The login window was represented 800x600 pixels (or less) and once completed, it is Gnome that was executed with the correct screen resolution (1280x1024). Whereas without this line, I have the choice between Gnome and Tde. Once in Tde, TDE seems to function almost normally. Cheers Patrick --- fr ------------------------- Utilisateur Fedora 17 + TDE.
