Hello,
I have installed TDE Ubuntu 12.04 today and found that when I select LibreOffice the splash screen comes up and freezes for several minutes before I can clear it by clicking on the desktop. Trying to open up a document has the same effect.
I have uninstalled the complete package via Adept and then re-installed to no avail. A check with Synaptic doesn't reveal any broken packages.
I have checked the archives for anything relevant.
Any ideas as to what's wrong please.

Thanks,
In terminal as user I get the same result, with no error messages. As SUDO up it comes and opens documents happily?
Is there a cure?

Try to uninstall kgtk-qt3-trinity (and maybe gtk-qt-engine-trinity); see okd mail from Slávek:

Question: when will get kgtk-qt3-trinity not longer installed by sefault - too much trouble with gtk applications. I wasn't able to use * lazarus-ide * dropbox * calibre without using using sudo before I uninstalled the culprit.

Yes I recommend too to remove these theme engine package. On PCLinuxOS, it worked partly, but caused enormous document layout troubles... Better stay away! Instead, you can get a GTK theme that is similar to Plastik.

I am now getting this message when I select LibreOffice:
" Fatal Error. The application cannot be started. LibreOffice user installation could not be processed due to missing access rights. Please make sure that you have sufficient access rights for the following location and restart LibreOffice:
/home/edos/.config/libreoffice/3"
I cannot see where I can change the access rights in the quoted file(s)

Move the folder /home/edos/.config/libreoffice out of the way and try again.

Hi Alexandre Any chances of getting a pclinuxos-beta or nightly build ( pimples and warts welcome ) Alternatively, how to go from R13.2 to R14(as is now ) If no...also thanks. Waiting is so darn difficult Tony

Tony, Sorry, not yet! Good things are coming! I know I said less positive things about the reliability of R14 some time ago, but it has now matured a lot and now it is okay, much closer to release.
François Andriot is the person who packages TDE for rpm-based distros and myself, I have not tested R14 nightly builds on PCLOS. My test computer is temporarily Ubuntu for testing it.
For David Bell,

kgtk-qt3-trinity isn't installed by default. If I try to uninstall gtk-qt-engine-trinity it will remove the desktop according to Synaptic.
Yes, I have seen this before. It removes the meta-packages that contains the default list of packages needed by TDE to work, but not the desktop itself. You can click on the details buttons in the list of the windows just before you hit okay to start the operation in Synaptic to see what is installed/removed/upgraded. If you see that tons of TDE packages are going to be removed, then something went wrong, but if you see that the desktop package is the only one (or maybe one or 2 others) to be removed, then there is nothing to worry about.
Thanks! Alexandre

Hi Alexandre Thanks for response. I will , for time being, carry on with Ubuntu nightly builds Looking forward to pclos version sometime in the near future

Tony, Please beware that it is not recommended to use beta or nightly build software on a day-to-day basis. At some moments, your computer might be unusable or unstable, as development goes on and some parts of software might stop to work. This is why it might be better for you to stay on PCLinuxOS for now.
Also, look at the fundraising posts on the mailing list, and you'll see that even nightly build ready-to-use packages are not available for the moment. Also, as with all the TDE installs made from this site, you will get a vanilla install, not an extra chocolate one like mine!
Have a nice day! -Alexandre

Hi Alexandre Don't worry. I am extremely well aware what Betas and Alphas can do to the system. And I am doing it on my "" mess-around-and-be-happy "" computer. Thanks for the reminder anyway. Yes, I noticed that the nightly build was missing the cherries and chocolates. Not a problem, as I wanted to familiar myself with certain things that I didn't bother with in the past Need a tester who never complains ? Call me :-)
See you around. Was nice talking to you
Tony

Thanks,
The former was the case, therefore I decided to perform a fresh install.

Oh, sorry, than it seems to be a different problem than my old one.

Might it be due to you first used it with sudo that now the files in that folder no longer belongs to you? I have ~/.config/libreoffice/3 and ~/.config/libreoffice/4 and all the files inside are owned by me and from my group. Could you check the owner and the access rights? E.g.: $ ls -l /home/edos/.config/libreoffice $ ls -l /home/edos/.config/libreoffice/3 $ ls -l /home/edos/.config/libreoffice/3/user

These 3 files are owned and can be accessed by me.
I removed "/home/edos/.config/libreoffice" as suggested by Dr. Nikolaus Klepp and this appeared to work. However, later on, a subsequent attempt to open LibreOffice resulted in the old fault reappearing and /home/edos/.config/libreoffice has reappeared as well!!
I can still open libreoffice as a sudoer in a terminal.
A puzzlement!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided eventually to download the live TDE Ubuntu 12.04 disk and perform a clean install from that instaed. All is now well. <grin>
