Hi Lisi, not on a TDE machine right now, but by memory on my system that window comes up with an "application" entry that can be selected, so that later the index can be built. I remember though that there were some problems with building the search index in the past and we did some fixes in R14 for that (if you search in bugszilla you should find something related to htdig, if I am not wrong around bug 600 more or less). - From your screenshot I take you are running 3.5.13.2 (or earlier). Do you have a VM on your system with R14 installed to verify if the problem is 3.5.13.x related or instead it is something else?
Cheers Michele
Thanks for teh reply, Michele!

No, it never seems to give me anything I can select.

Yes, 3.5.13.2.

No, but don't worry. I can pester the list with all my questions until I take the plunge and update to 14. Or, of course, I could install a VM ....
I _like_ what I have got and am reluctant to change it: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I love 14 on the box attached to my television, so I shall soon upgrade. Again, I have Jessie on my TV box and love that too, so I shall upgrade to that soon. (I'm assuming upgrade to 14 and let that settle, then upgrade to Jessie.)

I will send a screenshot later, when I am on TDE.

I've just (2 weeks ago) done a complete wipe and install Jessie with R14 on my machine. Its different from PCLinuxOS in many ways and seems to have some anoying bugs. Not least Synaptic doesn't work ! The cursor changes and then it dies quietly. Apt is fine as I would expect. Silly things, but no show stopper :-)

Hi Lisi, sorry for the late reply, but I didn't really have any time before to take this screenshot. See attached file. Once you select the "Application manuals" entry, the "Build index" button becomes clickable. Cheers Michele
Does this work only for R14? For me (TDE 3.5.13.2 / Ubuntu 12.04) the list in the Build Search Index window stays desperately empty whatever I select in the "Contents" tab It has been like that since my first first TDE install, years ago.
So I gave up on this one. midi-pascal

Thanks, Michele - but same here. I shall just have to wait until I have upgraded! Yet another reason to get on with upgrading. ;-)

Lisi reported problems on 3.5.13.2. On my R14.0.0 it is ok. I remember we did some work on the search index while developing R14, so I aksed Lisi to test on R14 if she cans and then let us know if she still has the problem.
Cheers Michele

It is fine on my TV box, which is running Jessie and TDE 14. I'll upgrade this box (Wheezy and TDE 3.5.13.2) in the reasonably near future - unlikely to be before the end of the month because I don't want to risk getting myself in a mess when I haven't got time to sort it out. This is my day to day workhorse machine!
I have been living with this for a while now. It has been a very minor annoyance, not a show-stopper. ;-)
Thanks for all your help, Michele.

re synaptic, on my new Jessie/R14 install the 'synaptic' executable is in '/usr/sbin' which is not in my user path.
In kmenu edit The icon to start synaptic in the start menu uses 'synaptic' as the command.. path issue again...changing it to '/usr/sbin/synaptic' will work,. I set the 'run as a different user' to root. You will be ask for admins password if you have tdeudo setup.

I did as you said and apart from deleting "-pkexec" the last word after "synaptic", it works exactly as expected. Many thanks for your help, its much apreciated.

My install did not have '-pkexec', which , I did not know this until now, is supposed to execute a command as another user. I havernever used that command.
