Just bought my first blu-ray drive, for data archives. Support for blu-ray was added to K3B in version 2.0, current is 2.02.
Is it possible to add blu-ray support to legacy, v1.05 in TDE R14, K3B ?
I can burn blu-ray with growisofs from the cli, prefer K3B.

Greg

Hi Greg, I can't answer 'yes' or 'no' at the moment because I have no idea what kind of effort is required for that. But I invite you to file an enhancement request on bugszilla so that the request doesn't get lost in time. It would be a worthwhile addition to K3B though :)

hello,
I was trying to upgrade from squeeze to wheezy and have found kpowersave-trinity, though it appears on the taskbar, doesn't seem to register anything; it just says, "disable actions on inactivity/Help/Quit".
I used the wheezy source-list from the trinity-desktop site and the source list from Hare's exegnu version. I've tried turning it on and off, purging and reinstalling, rebooting.
it would be nice to have it back; it's a laptop. was working fine on it before I did the update.
not sure what further info to provide.

Not sure which version of TDE you are running, anyhow in the main development trunk kpowersave has been replaced by tdepowersave. Cheers Michele

that's not offered via apt-get.
I'm using the sources.list from the trinity-desktop site referred to under 'wheezy'. other than that I'm not sure how to determine the version of TDE.

Run a TDE application. Click on "help". Choose "about Trinity".
sorry, didn't see your reply before just posting mine! yeah, it's 3.5.13.1 as indicated also by my 'sources.list'.

ok.
back to the original question: I'm still wondering why it is no longer working after the upgrade from squeeze wheezy.

Have you reinstalled it? Sometimes with upgrades things go wrong and the easiest and quickest way to fix it is to reinstall the offending packages.

yes, I did. for giggles I did it again making sure to 'purge' it. same result. don't want to do this too much more else I get certified insane.
I notice it is lodged in
/opt/trinity/bin/kpowersave
is this right? note no '-trinity' after the executable.

That is right. As for why it is not working, I can't say for sure. It may be that v3.5.13.1 and the wheezy kernel don't get along too well. Have you tried upgrading TDE to 3.5.13.2? I think there are quite a few users of Wheezy and 3.5.13.2, so it should be easier to have feedback from them if you use the same version. As for me I am running Jessie and TDE development version, where kpowersave is no longer used (actually it does not even build anymore in Jessie due to the lack of hal), so I can only provide some general comments/guidelines.
Cheers Michele

if I simply replace '3.5.13' in 'sources.list' with '3.5.13.2' and run
apt-get -s update
I get a lot of '404 Not Found'.
can you offer the lines you have in 'sources.list'?

and I have 3.5.13.2 running. But I remember a simillar problem with kpowersave, when I upgraded my thinkpads. It turned out to be an acpi issue that vanished after doing a clean wheezy installation.
Can you configure the energy savings settings using kontrol?

before proceeding, what is 'kontrol'? is that 'control center'?
I have a problem there too: it seems to crash out at least when I do some settings in admin mode, thus:
a) I go to 'control center' and enter 'admin mode' b) I enable 'global display control' c) go to 'power management' d) hit 'apply' (whether I change anything or not) e) I get the 'crash handler'
not sure how long it's been like this.
the settings are ok for now so one problem at a time.

Actually I build my own packages :-)
If you want to use the pre v14.0.0 nightly builds, you should use something like deb http://mirror.xcer.cz/trinity-sb wheezy deps-r14 main-r14 This is Slavek's own repository.
Otherwise if you want to use 3.5.13.2, you can use: deb http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/trinity/trinity-v3.5.13/debian wheezy main deb-src http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/trinity/trinity-v3.5.13/debian wheezy main deb http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/trinity/trinity-builddeps-v3.5.13... wheezy main deb-src http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/trinity/trinity-builddeps-v3.5.13... wheezy main NOTE: Do not replace 3.5.13 with 3.5.13.2. greets!
so I see there's no hal in '/etc/init.d'!
apt-get says the latest version is installed.
I'm considering removing hal and reinstalling it. seems quite risky given everything that's associated with it.
I cannot rip up this machine too much though, not in busy season.
how should I proceed to restore hald?

Absence init script for hald is not a fault - is initialized from dbus daemon. The question is, what's your kernel version - from distribution or backports?

So that explains it! Hal from distribution does not work properly with the kernel from backports. I have updated hal packages, but so far I have not uploaded this packages into my ppa.

hello!
Slavek sent me some updates which fixed the kernel conflict. kpowersave now seems alive and happy!
I note that '/opt/trinity/bin/kpowersave' is now at work.
many thanks especially to Slavek but also to everyone else since you all helped get to the heart of the issue not to mention my appreciation of the patient support!

can someone help me find tdepowersave?
I've got ppa-quickbuild lines in 'sources.list' referring to 'trinity-v3.5.13'.
'apt-get install tdepowersave' doesn't yield the package; 'apt-cache search' says 'kpowersave-trinity' is available.
however, as I posted, this seems blind and deaf.

Hi,
I'd suggest you to install your packages through Synaptic. It is not only easier, but you also don't have to remember all the name of all the packages in your distro by heart... You just have to do a search for ''powersave'' in Synaptic and you'll have it! We're in 2014, and while some tasks are still better made in Konsole, some are better made with graphic tools.

Funny thing, since opinions change from person to person. For example, IMO the best tool to manage packages is aptitude from a terminal and I would never change that unless there is a major reason for doing so ;-)

Of course, aptitude would do the trick too! But aptitude is pretty much a text-mode Synaptic, so yes, it would work almost the same way. It has a GUI (or I should say a TUI) where you can see the package lists. Then, you can tick those you want to install and click on apply. Just like Synaptic.
