Since installing the recent update to FF 16.0.2, I have been having constant issues. Sometimes as often as 3-4 times a day (other times it works ok for a couple of days at a time), FF will appear as though it has lost all access to the internet. Any tabs that I try to reload will just sit there and spin. 'Top' does not show any processes running out of control, and if I close and restart FF, everything works normally.
I have not noticed any pattern to the sites I'm visiting when it stops working. It does not appear to be related to flash content, and sometimes I come back to my computer to see it stuck trying to reload a page, so it appears to lose its connection even when not being actively used. I do not have any proxies or other special setting for my network - it's just a straight connection to the local LAN. I had assumed it was just my computer, but today my wife informed me that she has also been having the same problems for the past week. Both systems are running Ubuntu 11.04 (natty), and all updates have been applied.
I can't really work from a new profile because I need my bookmarks and plugins for daily work, and as I mentioned this problem does not immediately show up. However if anyone has other suggestions that I could look into, or if you have run across any other threads from people having similar problems, please let me know.

Your bookmarks are stored in ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/bookmarks.html (where * is an apparently random character string). There are a bunch of other files in there that may have other useful information.

That hasn't been true since many many versions ago. Places.sqlite holds the bookmarks since way back. Bookmarks.html can be used as an import and export tool.
.default may not be a part of the location either. Profile data can be placed and named according to user preference.

Hello, I guess that your problem is related to bugs in the Firefox packages of your distro and are not TDE related. Except being horribly slow on older computers (such as P3 and P4), Firefox should be stable. This is why I will replace it with Google Chrome (or Chromium) on my next livecd. You can always test if your connection is good by trying to use Konqueror.
Merry Christmas! -Alexandre
Oh the connection is definitely stable. I run web and email servers from here with a constant stream of traffic. On my desktop I'm always connected on IRC, plus I can always check any active bittorrents to verify my internet connection. The problem is definitely with Firefox, and only with the latest update. I may just have to dig up the .deb for version 15 and revert back for now.

Or if the repos still don't have the current version, try the 4 week old v17 bz2 from Mozilla.org. Maybe the packaging is the problem and not the version.

I stand corrected. Leslie
hallo, hallo!
I'm having trouble getting skype working fully on an install of tde/squeeze on an Acer Aspire netbook.
tde/kubuntu required some wrangling (including fooling with 'default.pa') on the same machine but it seems to be behaving. I notice it's got pa 2.1 while squeezy has pa 0.9.21 so I'm hoping it will solve my problem.
(problem: skype cannot see the mic whether internal or external.)
how do I do an upgrade of pa? do I have to upgrade the whole shebang?
oh, yeah, happy new yr!
F.
I'm aware of how to backup and restore my bookmarks and plugins to a new profile... However if I were to do that, then what would be the difference between my old profile and a new profile with restored settings?
