Updated ISO (exelinux_squeeze_trinity_gpl_1.1.iso) is done. The installer should now work properly.
New URL : wget -c "http://exe-linux.fastfishwebsolutions.com/trinity/exelinux_squeeze_trinity_g..."
md5sum: wget -c "http://exe-linux.fastfishwebsolutions.com/trinity/md5sum_exelinux_squeeze_tr..."
The patch worked on the old ISO. It will stay in place till the new is tested a bit more.

David, I'll keep an eye on this tried but after installing your latest iso, the good is it did set up my user ok.
The bad is when I logout things go black and I have to press and hold the power button to shutdown or reboot, nothing else will work, using SMXI to install the nvidia driver did not help.
I had to add "gksu synaptic" to the menu to get synaptic to start, just using "run as a different user" did not work.
Using the su filemanager to edit a config file is a pain because I have to keep telling it what app to use and clicking the box to save the settings is not working.
Also, not a big problem, using wallpaper.svg is not displaying proper, the image is all black, possibly can be fixed by adding a svg package, I don't know for sure.
I know all most of this stuff is inherited from Trinity and not your fault, but I just can't use this system the way it is, maybe you can play with it and get some of the stuff fixed, if you need some info from me or want me to test some stuff just let me know.
I mentioned adding http://debian-multimedia.org/ to the repos, you may want to add http://security.debian.org/ to the list too.
Thanks,
First I don't know what I'm talking about. :-)
But, I'm setting here wondering if you could get a better build for Squeeze if you used the kde3 sources from Debian Lenny and compiled them for Squeeze ? Is it possible ?

KDE3 for Debian Lenny has some unresoved issues with multiheaded setups. One would have to go with the sources from the last snapshot of testing that contined KDE3 - and that was 28 Mar 2009 ...

That's one bug. There are several new bugs in Trinity relative to Lenny, so I think JJ may have a good idea. OTOH, Trinity has some new features (e.g. randr) relative to Lenny KDE3.5, and Tim has done a lot of work to avoid conflicts between Trinity and KDE SC4 packaging.
I don't know if Tim's work is such that his new features and bugfixes can be easily cherry-picked and applied to Lenny KDE3.5.
KDE 3.5: 9/10 Trinity: 8/10 KDE 4.4: 2/10
These regressions may well be because Trinity was based on Ubuntu rather than Debian.

No. Too much has changed. This is the reason for the Trinity project; to keep KDE3 compilable and usable on modern systems.

The bad is when I logout things go black and I have to press and hold the power button to shutdown or reboot, nothing else will work, using SMXI to install the nvidia driver did not help.
The live CD has a stock Squeeze kernel and nothing is modified in core system areas. Some packages might be missing though. Some machines might need firmware-linux-nonfree.
This sounds like a "nouveau" issue (some info on smxi forums). Try adding "nomodeset 3" on grub kernel boot options line. It will boot without X, then you can run sgfxi for nvidia.
I had to add "gksu synaptic" to the menu to get synaptic to start, just using "run as a different user" did not work.
The kmenu was rearranged for this live build.. Root apps (including synaptic) are in system> root application. There are some kdesudo-trinity related issues (and fixes), see other threads.
I included a (optional) post-install script to remove kdesudo altogether and automatically fix the menu to use kdesu
Using the su filemanager to edit a config file is a pain because I have to keep telling it what app to use and clicking the box to save the settings is not working.
kdesu/kdesudo kwrite. Has own filebrowser dialogue
Also, not a big problem, using wallpaper.svg is not displaying proper, the image is all black, possibly can be fixed by adding a svg package, I don't know for sure.
There is a limit to what can be squashed to 700MB! (e.g. a full Trinity install) . Please note also aptitude is missing, add yourself if wanted (I use only apt-get)

debian-multimedia breaks stuff (vlc....) and has legal issues.. please add yourself if you need it security.debian.org.. goes in later when Squeeze is stable

See above where I said I had already installed the nvidia driver and it did not help!

That stuff is part of a working desktop system, they are not optional and I don't see any of those problems my Debian installs!

Other distros add debian-multimedia they just leave it remarked out. As far as it breaking Squeeze, this is the first I've heard, if you have some bugs it would help to report them!
Security.debian is working now, volatile is what is not working the last time I checked!
I'm not here to have a pissing contest with you, have fun with your cd, I won't be testing it any more!

Just a friendly reminder to please keep it civil on these lists.
Also, I know from experience how difficult it is to squash the filesystem down to 700MB. I would recommend using deborphan to see if there are any extra libraries that can be removed.

Debian doesn't. I always have to add it.

Hi Lisi,
*B*ut your better forks do, I test Linux distros and then give reports back on how they can be made better, that's what I do, I lot of developers don't have multiple computers to test their distro and I do, most developers see value in this and then I work with them, sometimes over the phone, to make a better distro, but as you can see some get defensive or offensive, maybe some don't have the ability to make things better, I don't know, but, I can't help them if there is no discussion.
I know you from the debian-user list where you are quite active, nice to see you here, did you find your recording software?

Yes, I had noticed a friendly name.
I have a short list. But I have been waiting for my husband to go away before potentially kyboshing his box.
Hopefully, I shall get the whole thing installed and working in a short time, but realisticaly it is likely to take me ages. I have to understand what is happening in order for me to be able to show him.
I and my husband are both still using Lenny, in order to avoid that *^&"$* KDE 4. So I am intending to use the computer he used last time to record his book to test out Squeeze and Trinity.

Looking forward, I say why can't we use the DM we are used to, for me it was KDE3, I've been using it since version 2, but, I was at the KDE4 release in Mountain View, CA and have been testing KDE4 since day one and fighting with one bug or another since up to version 4.5 and now it's looking real good, to bad Debian froze at 4.4 it is buggy, but 4.5 is an easy install http://qt-kde.debian.net/ and SimplyMepis 11.0 based on Debian Squeeze is using 4.5. and It's a Live DVD, you should check it out. http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=06449
