Does the Raspberry Pi version have TDM, or are we stuck with lightdm? if so howto?

How to what?
Lisi
He probably meant how to switch to TDM.
Hi,
To do this, follow the instructions on this page: https://wiki.debian.org/LightDM
But, try tdm-trinity or tdm as a name, instead of lightdm.
I personnaly don't use TDM, because it has been plain unreliable for me on R14 nightly builds, but if it does the job for you, then use it!
To get TDE to run better on the Raspberry Pi, I recommend you to lower the graphic memory to something like 32mb or 48mb, so that the rest of the systtem has more ram available. You can do this by typing raspi-config at the shell.
Hope it works! -Alexandre

Hi,
Now I guess I should ask you how patient are you, with TDE on the Slowberry Pi :) Also, overclock to 1000mhz (turbo mode) is almost necessary.

This concerns me. Is there an open bug report against tdm with more information?
Thanks!

Hi,
In my opinion, tdm and ksmserver are two weak points of TDE. From my testing on Ubuntu with nightly builds, it broke up frequently and after a while, I just switched up to lightdm, but if it is needed, just for the sake of testing, I can reinstall my Ubuntu system to test it back. I saw too often moments where the system crashed at text mode login, instead of showing tdm, or moment when I could see ''ksmserver: the reliable session manager for TDE''. When I can see this text, it is obviously because it did crash. KDE Plasma 5 switched to sddm, which is a new dm, probably for reliability reasons, and integration with newer technologies.

Hi Tim,
I reinstalled TDE R14 nightly build on top of a fresh Ubuntu 14.10 install, and TDM seems to work properly as of now. I'll give you news if/when I encounter new bugs.
Thank you! -Alexandre

**Ubuntu** 14.10 and then TDE on a Raspberry Pi???

Glad to hear it!
What you are probably seeing is that tdm doesn't have native systemd support (yet). It will need to be added but the developer working on systemd-related stuff (David Rankin IIRC) hasn't posted in quite some time so one of the other developers will probably need to pick it up.

Good! And now, I can (finally) start Synaptic from its icon. I don't know why, but it never made its way on my system through the updates on my previous install.
One little detail that should be ruled out of tdm, at least on Ubuntu, is that on a fresh install, with the system set to use tdm right after the fresh install of TDE, is that after the login, you are stuck in front of nothing, as if no desktop environment is choosen at all.
Lisi, I was talking about TDE on Ubuntu x86 on my test machine, because the main machine is on PCLinuxOS of course :)
Great! -Alexandre

Ah! That makes sense - the thread was/is about Raspberry Pi, but I couldn't see Ubuntu 14.04 fitting and running!!
because the main machine is on PCLinuxOS of course :)
What else? :-) :-)

Yes, what else :) I don't know why they are all loosing their time on any other Linux distro (where you have to go online to install the firmware required to go online...), when you can have PCLinuxOS :) :)
Have a great day! -Alexandre
