Lets face it, iceweasal is 10,000% more browser than konqueror.
Where do I change this (TDE? IDK) default broswer to iceweasal when I click on a web link in a kmail incoming message?
If it runs long enough, I can switch to iceweasal in its file pulldown, but 75% of the time I am looking at its crash report popup, which for the purposes of registering a bug report is worthless because the debug symbols are not compiled in. So the report it does file is basically konqueror crashed, no further details. Those I believe must get routed to /dev/null since not one of them over the last 5+ years has ever resulted in a reply (from anyone) asking for further details.
Thanks folks.
Cheers, Gene Heskett

What have the last five years got to do with TDE?

I know that you don't like cracking books, but could you just _try_, just once, to RTFM or STFW??
Anyway, KControl -> KDE components -> File associations. Probably TDE components in 14. I am on my desktop.
Not everything that you have a problem with is a bug. You could always do some coding and offer patches along with all these "bugs" you keep finding everywhere in everything.
And I don't like Iceweasel. So it isn't 10000% better than any other browser. You like it. That's fine. But don't diss everything that you don't like.
Why not just say: How do I change the default browser in KMail from Konqueror to Iceweasel?

On the other hand the users mailing list is for users *of all levels* to interact--that includes asking basic questions like these. A gentle pointer to the documentation along with the answer to the question is a much better response--if the documentation is good enough then over time people will start looking there first and asking here second. If not (and this was the case for much of KDE and TDE's life) then people will logically ask here first. ;-)
Tim
For many, many years, I have also had trouble with Konquerer crashing all the time. This is the case on TDE and KDE, and on every distro I have used, which is a lot of them.

The main problem I have found with doing this in relation to TDE is avoiding KDE4. I rarely succeed. I either get nothing or, if I add KDE3, pages of KDE4, no matter if I put -KDE4 in my search string.
So I rarely find answers on the web. Any suggestions as to how I can improve my Google-foo in this regard?

Use Trinity Desktop instead of TDE, my brief search for using either of those in a search string along with Konqueror produces KDE results using TDE and relevant results using Trinity Desktop.
I have never searched the web for answers to TDE issues.. so ymmv.

Quote marks help--entering "kde3" -"kde4" into Google gets me correct search results at the moment.
Clicking the "Verbatim" link in the left sidebar turns off a lot of Google's attempts to (wrongly) reinterpret your search results.
Or switch to duckduckgo.com , which interprets searches the way a technically adept person would expect. These days I tend to go there first, rather than to Google.

It depends on what you are browsing - sftp://, man:/, etc. Pretty much the only thing Konqueror cannot browse is resource hungry web sites. I used to use and love Konqueror. For years. But it has become unbearably slow for me. Probably some config I have got somewhere, but it is really painful. So I now no longer use it on the web, only on my desktop.

As you've probably guessed fixing this is very hard. It would require integrating a different browser engine (such as Webkit) into a Konqueror plugin while retaining the functionality of the KHTML plugin. While much of the groundwork has been laid to allow Webkit integration no one has stepped up to put a prototype together at this time.

I just did this again Tim, moving konqueror from the top choice to the last choice in 5 or 6 different associations. Perhaps I missed that exact one? There is no "html" anyplace in the list.
No effect, I still get konqueror for every web link I click on. And it always needs to kill a script according to a different popup.

The latest version of iceweasel is considerably more stable that the one it replaced about a week back. That one, I agree, was pretty bad.

Have you tried typing .html in in the window at the top rather than finding .html in the list? And rather than worrying about moving Konqueror to the bottom have you moved Iceweasel to the top?

It would have been a bit more obvious had it been above the right pane of the little window. Then the mental connection would have been a lot more automatic. I have done some gui's on older machines that had far fewer colors available, and there is a huge difference in the perception of "user friendly" when seemingly tiny details like that are attended to.

File it as a wish bug. This lot really listen - within the limits of there being very few of them, so they can't react fast. I agree about on the top left being hard to see - one of the shops I use regularly has moved its search window to the top left and I miss it at first every time.
Could you code it and submit a patch along with the big report? Especially if you have done GUIs in the past.

There is a huge difference between coding up a gui for Nitros9 on an old TRS-80 Color Computer 3, and coding up something in glade or pyvcp. Sure, I've added some buttons and such to the axis gui for linuxcnc, but that was by copy/pasting an example from the wiki, submitted by somebody who actually knew what they were doing. If I needed to modify it, I had to msg the author for suggestions. Hooking the button up to actually do something useful, such as telling spindle servo's P.I.D. component whether the lathes backgear was in low or high OTOH, was up to me.
If carving up that panel in steel, plastic, or even wood, gcode is half a day to write & execute it to make it, on my cnc controlled milling machine.
I'd have to spend months getting familiar with QT before I could grok the code that makes that TCC window now. So I'll just say it should be put on the wish list for R15 & let it be. Whomever wrote that code, could I expect move it, and compile test it in <10 minutes. 10 more to submit the patch. Done. My first attempt would probably poison the neighborhood cats. :(

No effect, I still get konqueror for every web link I click on. And it always needs to kill a script according to a different popup.
Yes, Trinity Control Center > TDE Components > File Associations
From Konqueror its Services > Settings > TDE Components > File Associations :-).
~>file associations>text>html, works here.
Ahh. Seems to have fixed it. But since this is html, who normally would associate that with text? Mind boggling.
Thank you very much Greg.

html is formatted text, rtf..rich text, plain text, xml, sgml..markup languages :-)

The latest version of iceweasel is considerably more stable that the one it replaced about a week back. That one, I agree, was pretty bad.

Try "Control Centre", "Default Applications", "Web Browser" then where it says "in the following browser" type in "iceweasel" or what ever you want to use.
HTH.
Ping?

Lisi, earlier: "Anyway, KControl -> KDE components -> File associations. Probably TDE components in 14. I am on my desktop."

elcaseti earlier: "For many, many years, I have also had trouble with Konquerer crashing all the time. This is the case on TDE and KDE, and on every distro I have used, which is a lot of them."
You've hit a bug.
It wasn't TDE that didn't answer, you haven't been using it for five years. I never click those things. They do seem to be useless.
Here is an explanation for some of the Konqueror problems in TDE: Timothy Pearson earlier: "David Lers said:
Pretty much the only thing Konqueror cannot browse is resource hungry web sites. While I'd love to see that change, I'm not holding my breath. Despite that, Konqueror remains my primary desktop application because I can do/start anything with/from Konqueror.
As you've probably guessed fixing this is very hard. It would require integrating a different browser engine (such as Webkit) into a Konqueror plugin while retaining the functionality of the KHTML plugin. While much of the groundwork has been laid to allow Webkit integration no one has stepped up to put a prototype together at this time."
So what didn't get a reply and needs pinging? Perhaps rephrase the bit you think did not get a reply.

How do I change the default use of konqueror to iceweasal? Wheezy with TDE R14.

That was answered. I have deleted the email, but check the replies from Tim. At least one of them contains the answer you are looking for.
