Weird! I use several fully updated KDE3.5 Jaunty systems and have not experienced this issue. Those updates aren't even KDE packages.
Is it possible that any system files got corrupted somehow (ailing hardware, recent "hard" power off, etc.)? KDE3.5 stresses certain graphics and system routines that Gnome may not even use.

not sure as i just tested (complete reinstall 9.04 then installing KDE 3.5 got the same notification about the same 2 upgrade files and same result hard lockup.
interesting that there not KDE packages as those 2 files only show after KDE is installed
prob something easy to fix, just not to sure where exactly to look --- On Thu, 9/3/09, kb9vqf@pearsoncomputing..net kb9vqf@pearsoncomputing.net wrote:

Maybe ailing RAM?
Failing or malfunctioning hardware can do really, really weird things to Linux...
