I just got myself a new PC but sadly some of the newer hardware is not yet supported in Debian Stable. I'm considering turning to Debian Testing instead but the question is whether Trinity runs on it? Does anyone have any experience they can share?

Unfortunately I can't answer your question, but in a similar situation (?) I was able to solve the problem with the backports.

Bullseye and Sid: https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Preliminary_Stable_Builds I've been running the Sid builds on Devuan for a while now...it seems OK.

...which, now that I think about it, is probably a kernel issue alone. Try a more recent kernel from backports before changing out your whole system; maybe look into Liquorix...

It is. Well, kernel and the non-free firmware.
Try a more recent kernel from backports before changing out your whole system
I know from the past that this is a reasonable option, though the reason I'm resisting it now is because my router - which I would have to connect to by cable - is in the kitchen and that means hauling my whole setup to the kitchen floor. Not very convenient, but maybe I should indeed bite the bullet and go with the backports.

Or, buy a longer cable? I have one, runs 30 some feet across the basement joists, thru the foundation and across the back door to the edge of the back porch roof, thence strung across the back yard about 60 feet to the peak of a shed roof and into a hub in that shed feeding 2 computers. Been there for a bit over 12 years now including a 112 mph direcho that did $18,000 in ppty damage. Took down 4 40 ft pine trees too, but that cable is still there and working yet today.

Actually, I figured I could use Raspberry Pi with NAT set up to forward all the wired traffic to the Wifi router.

For what it's worth, I always run the very latest packages from Slavek's PSB repository, and use sid packages for everything to do with Trinity, as well as in one or two other places that need something more up-to-date.
Yet my actual system (on two different machines) is Devuan Jessie and Devuan Ascii (= Jessie & Stretch in Debian). I wouldn't recommend this for other software, but it works best for me when using Trinity. So I wouldn't be too worried about whether it will run on Debian Testing, at least for my self and on my own machines.
The only glitch is that I still have an issue with that "r14-xdg-update script problem", which is discussed quite a lot over the past few weeks. Nothing has been resolved there, but my machine runs just fine, except for some notifications that I get when booting up. As I intend to invest in some new equipment very soon, I hope that these annoying little bugs will also disappear by upgrading to Beowulf/Buster or beyond.

Hi Janek, I have been running Debian Testing + TDE development branch since late 2012 (Debian was still Wheezy, TDE was still pre-R14). Never had an issue, works like a charm. If you run Debian Testing, I would suggest you use the PTB archives from Slavek. They will give you the latest TDE, with some functionality which is not in R14.0.x branch.
Cheers Michele
