Hi, Tony,
Your friend could try to select the area where the text is supposed to be,
and copy to clipboard, then paste into a plain text editor. It's possible
that rather than the text going away, it (or the background) got switched so
text and background are same color. Black-on-black used to be a frequent
problem with KDE version 1 in 1990's RedHat releases, when you tried to set
up a dark theme.

Hi Guys,
Just had a friend call me and tell me that all the text in his
applications and logout window has disapeared !
He is running Alexandre's PCLinuxOS with the Trinity desktop.
I don't have a clue where to look to sort this issue.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance:
My suggestion is that your friend gives the full and correct
info.
When was the last time it worked.
What did he do then. was it during doing work. Was it on bootup etc etc.
etc
Maybe he's going blind :)
No, seriously, it is really time for a new release of my LiveCD. It is
really really near release and it uses TDE packages builds against the new
PCLinuxOS 2014 libs, which will be much better because as of now, it might
not be a good idea to update the remaster from last summer.
Soon!

Hi Alexandre
I am updating regularly, only because I want to find out when it will break.
So far it seems to go well, except for Wine, which got a deadly disease :-)
and firefox which got slow ( as mentioned in a previous post ) is now a
feature :-)
But from a technical point, I am very interested to know how the text could
disappear.
Never have seen that, in any distro !
OK, waiting for your remaster .
