Subject: [trinity-users] Alexandre's most recent PCLOS remaster

I have been having a play with Alexandre's latest release of his remaster.

I have been one of Alexandre's fiercest critics, if not the fiercest. So I feel that I must give credit where credit is due.

Alexandre, I love it. I particularly liked those beautiful colours that one can gaze at as the system boots up. I greatly appreciated the chance to stick with a classic menu. I even quite liked the desktop - and it was obviously amenable to change, which I also liked. The selection of icons both on the desktop and on the panel was great. I prefer to work without icons generally, but these I could live with. There was even an icon for KWrite. I almost felt that I had come home.

Kudos. You have worked hard, and listened, and produced something lovely.

I am very pleased to hear that from you! I try to make it feel ''at home'', right from the start, as it is PCLinuxOS way of doing it. It should not need to be tweaked a lot to be used. Everything should work as it should, out of the box.

I had a very unfortunate experience with PCLOS and its being a rolling distro. A pity, as there was a lot I liked about it. But I am not about to change to it again.

If you have a reliable Internet connection at home, then you don't need to worry that much about the fact that it is a rolling release. If you don't need to have the latest version of programs all the time, then you can install it, install the programs you need and not even update it at all after that.

Two very minor quibbles.

1st, a political point. Yes, I know that we eschew politics, but we may have the occasional Ulsterman (or woman) on this list. This is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The rest of the island of Ireland is Eire, as you correctly say. You refer in the time zones to "GB and Eire", so what happens to poor old Ulster, otherwise known as Northern Ireland? Did you forget it? Or have you got IRA leanings and are lumping it in with Eire?? ;-)

I don't understand what you wrote, but except for TDE, the utilities are those of PCLinuxOS, and most of them are coming from Mandriva (a long time ago) and this includes the places and language lists. Use the one you need! One thing is sure, it is that I haven't touched to that :)

The other quibble refers to the clock on the panel. It was insistent that the time in London was 2:15 a.m. when it was in fact 10:15 p.m., and would not allow me to reset it. I was able to reset the clock on the desktop via the PCLOS, but not the clock on the panel.

I believe that in the PCLinuxOS installer, the local time/clock set to UTC options are not pointing at the right place. One is the other. By right-clicking on the clock on the panel, you can click on ''Adjust date/time'' to adjust you clock. It works, but you have to write your root password after.

Incidentally, the panel clock leads me to believe that you are in Canada, possibly Montréal. That would explain your French name, coupled with mother tongue standard English!

My primary language is French, but I don't care to use my computer in English. This is why it is in English, but when I do the remaster, it keeps as the default the city I choosed when I installed it.
