Hello,
Sorry to disturb you :-)
Since an upgrade of my Buster Debian, I receive this message when I open an application, as kmail, konqueror... : "Unable to find MIME type application/octet-stream".
I don't understand the message, no finded a solution with google.
Thanks for your help.
André
Hello,
This has happened to me before. It turned out that this MIME type had gone missing for reasons unknown. The solution was actually simple:
Go to TCC->Mime types options and create a new MIME type named application/octet-stream. Don't worry about filling anything else.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
Not really :-)
I don't see TCC -> Mime types options in the TDE menu.

Sorry, I was not specific enough. The MIME settings are under TCC -> TDE Components -> File Associations.
There, enter expand "application" and look for "octet-stream" (it is sorted in alphabetic order). If it is there, then the problem must be somewhere else.
If it is missing, press the button below the list to add a new type. A dialog shall appear. Select "application" from the drop-down list and type "octet-stream" into the text field. That should fix it.

Thanks Philippe !
After a reboot of Buster, this message has disappeared. I will use the above solution if it comes back.
Cheers

Hi,
I was puzzled by that, too, because I have sometimes encountered the same error message and wanted to know how to put it right.
After looking about, I found this:
TCC / Peripherals / Storage Media / Notifications
and there you will see "All Mime Types" and a button to the right, "Add", so I assume this is what was intended. If I am wrong, I expect that somebody will correct me.
