Hi!
I am on preliminary stable builds on debian stretch. After the last update i am getting an r14-xdg-update error 9 on login. It complains about permissions and tells to look at r14-xdg-update-validation-test9.txt. There is one line in here <Filename>kde-kchmviewer.desktop</Filename> No such file exist anywhere. What i am supposed to do with this?

In $HOME/.config/menus/applications-tdemenuedit.menu, there should be an entry like "<Filename>kde-kchmviewer", which is triggering that error. Why is there is not possible to say, there has been no change lately to justify such an error. Cheers Michele

After converting back to Trinity once more from KDE3 on my OpenSuSE Leap 15 system, I now have two accounts that are producing these entries. (The last time I was running Trinity only one account was doing it.) I don't quite understand what causes this, or what the fix is. Do I merely remove the entries from $HOME/.config/menus/applications-tdemenuedit.menu? What will prevent them from coming back?
By the way, the messages that appear at login time are seriously inadequate from the standpoint of explaining what to do. The second message merely refers to "applications-tdemenuedit.menu" with no information about its location, and to the contents of "/var/tmp/tdecache-$USER/r14-xdg-update-validation-test9.txt", with no instructions that explain their relationship or what changes to make. :-(

Hi Leslie, are you able to send us (even to me only if you want) the original applications-kmenuedit.menu? I can try to check why it does not get converted/removed properly.
Cheers Michele

Attached are $HOME/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu (KDE3, presumably) $HOME/.config/menus/applications-tdemenuedit.menu

Thanks Leslie, I have create a bug report here: https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/tdebase/issues/5
In the meantime, you can rename any "<Filename>kde-" into "<Filename>tde-" in the menu file and this should get rid of the errors you see. In theory this rename is done automatically when you first convert the profile, we will need to understand what went wrong in your case :-)
Cheers Michele

grepping "kde" in $HOME/.config/menus/applications-tdemenuedit.menu gets me 120 occurances of entries beginning with "kde4-", 0 occurances of "kde-". I also noticed, though, that I only got the first of the three startup messages this time when I logged into this account. (?)

I think that I've gotten to the root of this problem: an overlooked reference to a kde library in my PATH environment variable. (Oops.) Thanks for helping with this.

So if the PATH is correct, the conversion from kde to tde works fine? And what was the problematic variable?
Cheers Michele

Well, those startup XDG messages are gone, anyway. :-)
And what was the problematic variable?
There was a reference to /usr/lib64/kde4 in $PATH.
