I read this review and have a couple of machines for which the distribution would be especially appropriate. What goes unmentioned is the package system it uses and the location and nature of repositories.
It's based on Debian Stretch so you can use any of the same repositories.

It is based on the Debian Stretch 9.2 and Trinity 14.0.5, which are among the latest platforms available.
So the location is not clear.

Yes, but they implemented only parts of Trinity. Especialy, many configuration (settings) elements are missing. For example Window Decorations (which are very important for me as I never used the close-button on the right).
If anyone knows how to "just add" the missing elements... I tried reinstalling from Trinity-Debian but the result was not good.
Besides, if the former version was "Windows 2000" like in look, the lastest has a "Windows 10" look, they eevn tweaked the panel's "start button"...

Just my 2¢: Q4OS is not worth bothering.

In any case - I like the Q4OS team. They actively and precisely report bugs, working well during their solution. Their efforts are beneficial to us. They have my thanks!
Cheers

I've been thinking that they might be doing that and that it would be a good thing to have more devs support TDE. So it's good to know they do and I as a non-dev appreciate every contribution that keeps TDE live and running. Thanks to everyone.

Apollogies, I did not want to disgrace the Q4OS team. I was just draged down from the earlier linked review.

Well, yeah, though I haven't seen it yet, I don't feel like wanting a system configured like that either. That's for their target group supposably. Anyways, I hope it helps keeping TDE alive!
Stefan
There are ways to add back the missing pieces They talk about it in their FAQ. https://q4os.org/dqa011.html#desktop.10 You can also remove the configuration files to get a standard menu back.

Thanks. I thought I knew Debian and TDE good enough to spare reading the FAQ, obviously I was wrong :)

Contrary to Nik's 2¢ I would say Q4OS *is* worth bothering, especialy if you want to introduce new users to both Debian and TDE.
I got a colleague to install it (1.8) on a netbook - he came to Linux after KDE 3 and did not know TDE at all.
*And* I would add that they do an ARM version (I think not yet based on Debian 9) that runs TDE on the Raspberry pi and similar machines (where KDE and Gnome 3 have no chance at all).
I have a Raspberry pi running TDE in my shade, running a TCL front end to a USB thermometer, that I can check over wifi with Kdrc, lot fo fun :)

I don't particularly like the Q4OS focus on being a Windows replacement (I also do not have any particular issues with Windows - use what works best in the particular use scenario) . I feel a distro should be confident enough in its own right and do things it's own way . Having said that it is clear Q4OS have been successful in attracting attention in the technical press - being truthful I did not know of TDE until I came across it in Q4OS.
Also if the Q4OS devs are submitting bug reports etc back to TDE devs then that is a good thing and to be welcomed - maybe even they might be prepared to help out with TDE development ? Padraig
Q4OS seems to be a Debian Wheezy, but more easy, less complete with stripped-out version.
TDE works well on Q4OS, I use it for laptops in a class room (learning Linux).
It's a light Linux, good for old computers who find again a new youth.

The statement was it is based on Stretch - but perhaps you can get it running on Wheezy as well
Sorry,
The last version of Q4OS must be based on Stretch...
