I _always_ get Detailed List view (local,
removable and remote
directories), because that is what I moved to the top of the
appropriate Services Preference Order lists... circled in the
attached image. You need Tree View at the top of that list.
I see the treeview on top, but when I press the home icon i always
get the icon view (see attached sc2).

Hmm, I did following last time. I switched to tree view from the view icon
and now when I open home in new tab it opens in tree view (sc4).
It looks like it has to be done for each directory, because when I press
CTRL+t I have a totally different set of icons (sc5). As soon as I select a
directory it goes into iconview .. perhaps it is ViewMode=konq_iconview
from [MainView Settings].
