Hi !
I've installed trinity today for the first time. Until yesterday I used an old installation of KDE 3.5 (debian, probably lenny; but today it's squeeze with some wheezy elements). I have couple of questions about the KDE -> Trinity transition and the first one is: Is there an way to import as many settings as possible from my old KDE settings directory?
Thanks !

Hey Ilya,
There is a script in the works to automatically convert KDE3 -> Trinity profiles. Here is a link to the related bug enhancement request, with the script available as an attachment.

I do not endorse this, and have not tried it, but Darrell has been using it quite successfully. I've also heard that copying .kde3 to .trinity can work as well :-) Just make sure to backup anything before you try either option.

Hi Ilya, welcome to Trinity! IIRC, most of your settings should have been preserved if you've upgraded to 3.5.13. The .kde or .kde3 directory was simply renamed .trinity. (Confirmation?)
There has been talks of making the migration much easier for users, and there are preliminary scripts on the bugtracker, so you may also wish to try those.

Nope, nothing like this happened. But then I removed .trinity directory and copied .kde to .trinity and now the desktop looks pretty much like my old KDE one. There are some issues still, I'll start an extra tread about those.
Thanks!

<snip> Yes. Aside from any centralized settings in KIOSK mode (which will be honored by Trinity), KDE3 stored personal settings in ~/.kde. Trinity stores them in ~/.trinity. One can simply copy the contents of ~/.kde into ~/.trinity. I suppose one could also use a symbolic link. Hpoe that helps - John

The rendered my mail unusable. So I had resort to my backup, which died :-(, so I retreated back to KDE 3.5.10 while I still had my second backup. I have very little spare time at the moment, so am just praying taht my temporary computer will let me struggle on for a couple of months until I've got more time to rebuild my poor dead desktop machine, and reinstall Trinity.
So warnings to keep good backups are essential!
