And a little P.S.
I created these last two emails from scratch, not a reply, not a template, filled in all the fields with my own two reasonably clean hands, and I *still* get Gene's email address in the reference headers.
Another email sent out to a friend only a couple days ago (completely unrelated) contains no references to Gene on the TDE list, nor to person B.
So it definitely seems to have some connection to the TDE mailing list. If so, then how and why?

I'm not sure which emails are "these last two".
If you are referring to the previous email of yours where you explained that you fell asleep then got up in the middle of the night to reply, that one does contain a Reference header referring to Gene.
But this email (that I am replying to) does not.

But the emails from person B does not go through the mailing list.
The only common factor here is your mail client and templates.

Yeah, I just noticed that myself. The second one does not. But I created both from scratch. Yet only the first contains those reference headers referring to Gene.
I created them both in the same way. I pasted in all the fields for subject, addresses, etc.

Maybe I'll start by deleting all my templates. I can always make new ones.

Isn't it all text in *nix? so grep on Genes mail and see where it is saved.
Gene's email, like all of yours who are in the list, gets sent to the TDE mailing list folder. I've only exchanged a couple emails with him outside the list. Likewise everybody else; unless we get into some extended conversation, I keep them in the TDE mailing list, which is by far the biggest folder.
I suppose I could grep the whole TDE folder, or even grep everything in my machine, just to see what comes up with that email address.
By the way, just rethinking an earlier email exchange with Steve D'Arpano: That first testing email (sent to his private email address) was not sent from a template, but was created from scratch. I filled in all the fields by hand; the second testing email sent to him was also from scratch. Yet only the first contained reference headers to Gene's email, not the second.
So while myself or my email client, which is Kmail. are common denominators, my email templates, at least in this instance, are not. I deleted them anyway, since they will stay in my trash for a while and I can always retrieve them or create new ones. But I don't think templates are the problem.

I only received one test email from you to my email address, and it did not contain the mystery Gene reference header.

Can you send a new email, from scratch, to the TDE list please?

No I meant ~/.trinity where the TDE configuration is kept, but of course you could have created some dot file for fetchmail or similar.
Anyway I meant configuration files, where you may have setup something. AFAIR you and Gene are not the youngest here on the list.
