Hi,
there is one software the development of which was stopped before KDE
moved to plasma, and hence it requires KDE 3. That's why I have TDE
running on a virtualbox. I would prefer that package to be available
within my system, but I didn't succeed so far. The worst case that
happened was that it rendered my system almost useless.
Here is the setup:
I run Manjaro stable up to date, an Arch derivate. Trinity or TDE is not
available for that distribution, as far as I know.
I want to use Quanta+ from TDE.
Is there a way to get that done? (Maybe I get my hands at the source
code some day, but I have no experience with C++ and am not sure if that
will ever yield workable results).

When you say almost useless what do you mean?
I have noticed you can run TDE apps under Plasma and Mate but you either
need to modify the paths or use absolute paths when launching the app, so
instead of just typing konqueor you would have to add a shortcut to
/opt/trinity/bin/konquorer. This is probably true of other desktops as well
but I haven't tried them.

I've done this before and it's easier to add TDE's paths to the global path.
Something like:
# User added
PATH="$PATH:/opt/trinity/bin"
export PATH
Unfortunately:
A) I don’t remember where I added it. Possibly just the user’s .bashrc?
B) I don’t remember all the paths TDE apps use. Here’s a partial list from
memory:
/opt/trinity/bin
/opt/trinity/games
You can probably use:
find /opt/trinity -executable -type f
to find other directories you want/need.

from what I read OP complains TDE is not available for Manjaro on Arch. I
have no idea what is Manjaro ... but perhaps someone can guide OP.
I can only think of some kind of chroot.

Seems like it is available, I am not an Arch user tried it back when it
first came out my system wasn't fast enough to be able to build everything
on the fly. I know a few people that use it and they like it.

Something lights in my head - I also recall years ago someone was telling me
that everything is build from scratch, but I think it was gentoo.
Also I do not see Quanta+ in the list of packages (at least on my PC)
