This is an ISO made by Alexandre. ( see date ) I have worked with that and previous one for over a year. Apart from having a lot of programs I don't need/want, The ISO was perfectly OK. Sure, needed some tweaking etc, but nothing wrong
The ISOs found on the pclos website are made by " active " members. ( see dates ) Again, they need customization to your needs, but nothing wrong with them I use them daily

Have you checked the download? md5sum or better? Have you tried redownloading? Have you the possibility of trying DVD instead of USB key?

indeed, there's no reason to take this issue to someone who had nothing to do with it. he's trying to sweep this under the rug.

Tini I have installed on USB using unetbootin and then installed to Hard disk about 20 times, as I did some testing for them It installs perfectly, but with some of them, when exiting, it would not give you the << remove usb and restart >> option, You had to pull out the usb and reboot.( return )
This has nothing to do with install, but*after* install. Doesn't affect a digit of your install and I can't it call it inconvenient either. It just is , till June release.

I haven't tried to install that particular remaster. Only run it as a Live CD, which, as you say, works. You need Alexandre!
It might be worth asking on the PCLinuxOS list as well if they are in fact likely to be helpful. If they are, let us know what the solution is!
Has anyone here successfully installed this remaster? I thought I saw that several people had.

I've installed that version on half a dozen or so machines with no issues except one and that turned out to be a video card issue.
It seemed that the mainboard had video built in and plugging in an external AGP card didn't disable the onboard one properly. It looked like the memory map had a hole where the on board video card memory was located, but the OS didn't know not to use it.
The net result was that there were no icons and the ones that were visible were just black rectangles with no text. Changing the external video card did alter the apearance of the desktop, whilst removing it completly did allow an almost normal but low resolution desktop to be seen. Replacing the mainboard solved the problem.
HTH.
ok, i figured out what's wrong...
for some reason this os includes unwanted junk like 'icewm'. furthermore it's set as the default file manager instead of 'tde' which is advertised on the livecd.
i went to the repo and removed it (which i should NOT have had to do) but unfortunately the default layout still doesn't look the way it does when you run it from the flash drive.

Alexandre may be able to help when he resurfaces. If only with an explanation. But a) it is Saturday, b) he may be away and c) it is 9 in the morning in Québec. Mind you, I see that you are the same side of the water, but you are clearly an early riser or go to bed very late indeed. ;-)
I have obviously got to install this to see what happens!! I almost always alter default look anyway.

If I understand correctly, there are two independent PClinuxOS builds - one from Alexandre based on 3.5.13.x, and second located on url http://trinity.mypclinuxos.com/. And for this second build I do not know on what Trinity version is based. On the screenshot is TDE 3.5.13.x, but I do not know if this also applies to version 2015-may.
Or I get it wrong and it's the same build?

That is nothing to do with the Alexandre version so far as I know. So I agree with you that it is an independent build. It is what Tony was on about. But Tini is using (trying to use??) Alexandre's build.
But I have just looked. I ought to have done so before. (I had looked at the repository referenced by Tony.) And the screen-shot is quite clearly and recognisably Alexandre's and says that it is 3.5.13.2. So perhaps the Alexandre version is now being used in the mainstream. We need Alexandre to clear this up! We can only speculate. I always (mis?)understood that Alexandre's TDE remaster couldn't be/wasn't official.

There are actually two versions at http://trinity.mypclinuxos.com/, a minime (by reelcat, small/minimal/trinity-tdebase) and a big daddy (by present_arms), both are r14 and nothing to do w/ Alexandre's. Topic covering development of the builds: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,131668.0.html
Similar to the OP's experience, I understand that the installed minime version is a lot plainer than the live version. That would be a good thing because the panel in the live version is a crowded mess (I haven't tried installing it yet).

That's just cosmetic! Alexandre likes complexity.
But who do you mean by OP??? The OP was using Alexandre's LiveCD and had problems installing it. He didn't mention minime or big daddy (both of which need translation. :-/ )

Hi all,
First of all, thank you Lisi for trying to calm down these folks! I'm not always on the computer, and I had quite a big week!
The worse in that is that the user coudn't figure out that he made a mistake, and not that my hundred-times-tested PCLinuxOS non-official TDE remaster has such a problem... Are-we facing a code 18 :)
The install can be started by 2 ways: Regular way: By the install icon on the desktop while running the LiveCD The ''low-ram'' way: By selecting to go directly to the installer on the grub menu of the LiveCD
Once the partitions has been made and the stuff is installed (I don't remember if it is right after, or at first boot), the system ask for creating an user. You have to create an user, or else the system is going to be used by nobody :) During the user creating process, the PCLinuxOS installer copy the skeleton of what is needed in the user folder. This is made automatically, but if you want to know it for your own knowledge, it is in /etc/skel/. The only thing I can see is that you probably skipped creating an user for any reason.
Then, login with the user you just created and you're ready to go!
Once TDE R14.0.1 will be out, I will rebuild my remaster on top of it, but for now I stick to 3.5.13.2 for reasons pointed out by Lisi. Also, the point of having so much stuff on the LiveCD is to have almost everything ''on board'' to setup a freshly formatted computer without needing to install stuff that you would install anyway, such as LibreOffice, and maybe as LIsi said I might like complexity :)
Have a great day! -Alexandre

Welcome back, Alexandre. :-)
You don't think that there may have been a problem with the installation media? Don't confuse the noise, some of it unpleasant, for which the OP was not responsible, with the OP's original problem. I don't honestly think that a code 18 is very likely in this case. Much more likely a shaky USB key. (I.e. a hardware problem, neither software nor PEBKAC.)

Yes, it might be possible. As a long-time Asus EEE user, I know that software such as Unetbootin, which is used for transferring the liveCD iso image to a usb key, is not always 100% reliable first time, but specially in this case, I guess that it is a code 18.

He didn't, he said "it looked and worked great when i ran it as a LiveCD, but after installation the screen was totally different and there are no icons.", i.e. live and installed look different. While new installs usually have a couple of desktop icons, they aren't mandatory (should Alexandre's install have icons?). What seems strange is that he didn't mention the panel/main menu, or lack thereof - is the install broken, or does it just look different?
(both of which need translation. :-/ )
PCLOS builds numerous iso's ranging from MiniMe (CD size, minimal install, the name of Dr Evil's 1/8th size clone in Austin Powers movies) to FullMonte (full DVD size, standard release plus extras, British slang for 'the works'). The initial (both unofficial) Trinity iso became Big Daddy, presumably to differentate it from the smaller Trinity MiniMe iso.
we can close this thread. the problem was/is there are two file managers (or 'de') but the default is not tde. rather the default interface is 'icewm' which looks like garbage.
i dunno why icewm was not only included but made the default interface, but it caused problems.
anyway, the installation didn't look like the demo so i went with something else. a real pity because it was one of the best looking desktops i've ever seen, and i would have enjoyed using it.
thanks everyone for the tips, but i've moved on. this isn't worth the hassle.

the problem was/is there are two file managers (or 'de') but the default is not tde. rather the default interface is 'icewm' which looks like garbage.
The only relationship between a file manager and a DE[1] is that normally every DE includes at least one GUI file manager, of which one is set to be the default file manager, entirely unrelated to default as may apply to the DE that starts when or after you login, or automatically on boot.
"The" file manager always installed in Windows is Windows Explorer. File Managers in Linux include Konqueor (default in TDE & KDE3), Dolphin (default in KDE 4 & 5), Nautilus (default in Gnome), Midnight Commander (MC; available in any, default in none), among *many* others.
IceWM is a DE. With TDE installed on an OS that uses a greeter instead of an auto-login, the desired DE for each login can be selected from the greeter menu. Apparently installing in the manner you did either didn't enable (or install a greeter) for you to be able to make such a choice, and/or didn't make TDE the default DE or greeter selection.
Interface is not normally used as a synonym for DE[2].

Not to be fussy, but IceWM is *not* a DE, it is a Window Manager (that's what WM stands for, after all). The main role of a WM is to handle window visualization, in case of TDE it is done by twin. So it is perfectly possible to run a DE using a WM different from the "default" one.

A DE incorporates a WM, being that all are dependant on one as its foundation if they aren't one exclusively, just not a simple one like IceWM, TWM and other bare bones kin. There's no way to say Gnome, KDE, Cinammon or TDE are not both DE and WM. http://askubuntu.com/questions/18078/what-is-the-difference-between-a-deskto...
i re-installed and it's still screwed up. this time i noticed that the file manager isn't 'tde', rather its 'icewm'
how did that happen?!?

You need someone who uses this. They all seem to be absent, though there are quite a few of them. It's a Saturday. Slávek is usually here at the weekend, which is OK for us Debian users. :-) But people in general are sparse on the ground.
You might find this and what follows interesting: http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/?0::6924
It's your time and money, and you who might be getting as pig-headed as I have been known to get, and you who may be saying "I'm ***-well _going_ to get it done this way", but I'd try optical media at this point.
I have had problems with USB installation on occasion. Not, as it happens, with TDE (it was Linux Mint 17 with MATE), but it was a problem with the actual stick. It installed on some boxen and not on others. Honest! Where it didn't install, we managed to get hold of a DVD and that worked.
The actual sticks/keys are a variable bunch. I gather it makes a difference where in the block the chip is cut from - middle or outside.
Grandmother. eggs etc, but I would md5sum or shasum or something check both the download (you already have) *and* the burnt image, if you burn one.

All this bruhhah about PClinuxOS has caused me to sit here a few minutes longer.
I ran it on this box for about a year, but some might call me a power user. My parting of the ways was when I needed to build something for the 3rd or 4th time, but the libraries to built it were not avaiable in the repos, AND Texstar refused to add them. Net result was I installed the kit I needed in the form of a wheezy based iso put up by the linuxcnc crowd. I haven't had to do searching since as it uses the wheezy repo's except for a pinned kernel.
