Hello everyone!
My PCLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster version 2013, July 3 is ready to download!
I call it non-official because it doesn't come from the PCLOS team and since it contains software coming from outside of their repos, it is also not supported by them. It only has a special ''permission to exist'' from the PCLinuxOS dev team.
It can be seen as a whole as the much-loved PCLOS 2007, but fully updated and upgraded. It is a complete system that can be used as a LiveDVD or it can be installed (from the LiveDVD).
New on this release: -Fully updated PCLinuxOS 2013 base system -TDE 3.5.13.2 -A theme switch Zenity script to let the user switch between the more modern theme I use and TDE default theme, to please more users. -A SuperKaramba theme pack -It can now be downloaded as a simgle ISO file, and not a multi-part zip file!
On this LivCD: -Tons of TDE software and major apps like LibreOffice, Firefox and Gimp
Login info (on the LiveCD): Regular user:guest Password:guest Super user: root Password:root
System requirement: A x86 computer with at least 256mb of RAM. It is a 32bit system, but it can be installed on a 64bit system too.

Thanks for the links to download the iso, but I can't figure out what/where to click to start the download on the site. I tried the little square thing next to the large-letters of the iso, but nothing happens. I also tried to right-click and 'save as', but all it gives one is a 26kb file of some kind.

Yes, I completely agree that these kind of upload websites are made in a way to make sure that they are as confusing as possible, to make sure that the users sees tons of ads before they figure out how to download the file...
Nevertheless, try to find the 2 ''speed gauge'' on the screen. Right under the one where it's written ''slow download'' (which means download for free), there is a download button. Click on it. Then, close any ad pop-up that may appear and after the 30 seconds countdown that now appears right above the ''speed gauge'' has finished, you will see that the download button is now named ''Click here to download now''. Then, you are ready to go!
Thanks! -Alexandre

Meh...yeah, that was a little confusing as I thought *those* were the ads lol
Thanks, I'll get on it in a minute downloading to help test.

Alexandre,
I was able to download your remaster overnight, but the md5 checksum does not match!
It is probably nothing more than a byte or a few bytes off, but I would like to be sure I have a good iso. If the above md5 is definitely correct, could you post a few very small par2 files so a small error could be corrected rather than having to download 1.7 GB again :-)
Best regards,
Andy
P.S. I don't like this latest version of Yahoo webmail. It assumes I want to top post and doesn't appear to properly quote what I am replying to. :-(

Hi I have downloaded, burned and installed on 3 different machines. All is well. Updated, installed more programs, including a xxx.pae.bfs kernel on 64 bit machine. All seems to work so far
Thanks Tony

Hi, Oops! It seems like the Md5sum I put might not be the right one. Can someone else confirm if it's the right one or not? The way I did obtain my Md5sum was to open the ISO with K3B and just before I click on the button to start burning, it's written on the screen. Andy, can you try to download it again? Maybe it's just a once-in-a-while download problem. I personnaly go often in Internet Cafés (or McDonald's) to get more reliable and faster Internet.
Thanks!

Hi Tony here. I have downloaded the iso on 2 different machines. Both md5sums are identical and ?? different ?? than the one you gave 3ef07..................d9ab83
My bit count of the ISO is 1.791.823.872
hope this helps somewhere

Just an off-topic note about that, for those who may not know.. You can use Yahoo mail via IMAP or POP with an email program. I don't know about others, but Thunderbird will auto-configure it.

Thanks, Dan. I actually use Kmail with Yahoo at home, but at work I have to access it via a web browser. It used to be reasonably decent until a recent change in their interface.
Maybe this is kinda like the move from KDE3 to KDE4, a step backwards :-)
Best regards,
Andy
OK, the md5 I got is:

Best,

Everything seems to work just great, no problems encountered so far.
Having choices with menus and themes is much appreciated, as is Konqueror as a file manager again (Dolphin, too, but I'm not a Dolphin fan).
Definitely a winner and I will be installing this weekend.
Thanks, Alexandre!

I agree. I have not encountered problems so far. It looks very very nice to me.
But , and there is always a but(t) , ...... What is that < Lost & found > folder doing there in the main menu ? Could we rename that to something else for "next" version , like 'other' or 'extra' ? (( yes, I know how to do that for myself ))
Second thing here is that the NetSurf browser doesn't work properly here. When clicking on" the icon bar " or " Yahoo " or " The Register " on the opening page, the browser just disappears .( On both machines) . Will someone check please if it is so on your computer as well ? Thanks

The Lost & Found folder is where programs that TDE can't classify goes. Yes, it probably can be renamed easily. Or maybe TDE apps classification could be improved?

NetSurf is a nice little web browser that works very well on slow machines. It is more advance than things like Dillo or Links, but it is clearly not as compatible with big complicated websites such as Yahoo. As an example too, you can go on facebook with it, but you can't click on anything because facebook enters in a compatibility mode.
It's always good to see that it works great!
Thanks! -Alexandre

OK Alexandre That clears things up for me. Have been playing around with it a little this afternoon. Seems to be just fine.
Thanks Tony
Hi,
For the visual ones, here is 2 screenshots: -One with classic theme -One with modern theme
There is a theme switch script (the icon on the desktop) for switching easily in less than a minute between the 2 themes.
Have a nice day! -Alexandre

Alexandre,
I installed to a partition over the weekend and I've been using it looking for problems. No problems encountered so far!
I tried both classic and modern themes and have a slight preference for the classic :-)
It's so nice to have PCLinuxOS back on my computer in usable form. I have always installed the latest version, hoping that KDE4 and I would finally be compatible but, alas, it has not happened.
I now have your excellent remaster and David Hare's excellent Exe Linux (Debian Wheezy) and I think I'm set! My thanks to David, Francois, and you. And to Tim and Slavek as well.
TDE certainly has some talented and hard working people behind it.
Best regards,
Andy
