Hi I have one very important question as well. How are you guys/pros syncing your mobile phones with TDE.
Years ago I worked on opensync, which died because of syncml. I am also following the story of syncevolution, but they provided only support for kde4+
I recall the time (must be 10y ago) when I had no issue to sync up my palm III with KDE ... and after this all went wrong. Since the time I have a smart phone it does not work for me.
I would never use an external service that is not under my control, but I could run a service on my public server.
(Working) solutions are highly appreciated
thanks in advance
regards

I successfully use SOGo - http://www.sogo.nu/ - this is an excellent groupware server that uses standard protocols - SMTP / IMAP (Sieve), CalDAV, CardDAV. TDE includes support for CalDAV and CardDAV, however, still need to work on them a bit.

Hi thanks for quick response, so you installed it in your network and you can confirm it works fine with TDE. What set of items are you syncing. I am interested in the typical set of tools: calendar, todo, note, address at least.
What is the part in TDE that supports those protocols (Cal/CardDAV), I could perhaps help a bit - depends on the language its written.
I'll have a look into Sogo next.
regards

KAddressbook can use CardDAV == contacts. Thanks to KAddressbook contacts are available in all programs that use it - for example, KMail, KOrganizer,...
KOrganizer can use CalDAV == calendar events, tasks.
For general notes SOGo unfortunately does not have interface. If I understand correctly, there is no standard protocol for notes (like CalDAV). I use tasks instead of notes.
As I mentioned above, TDE plugins for CalDAV and CardDAV are not yet working absolutely flawlessly - there are some shortcomings that need to be fixed. However, it is reasonably usable.

When we were discussing the state of opensync - the question was what happens if you have a central repo for the sync. I am not sure if the solution does not raise same question.
Imagine you have at least 2 devices (Computer, Mobile) and the server where the SOG is running.
You have following scenario: - modify address or calendar information for record N - sync up Computer with Server - record N gets synced up with Server - In the meantime you modify this record N on the mobile - sync up Mobile with Server - what is the state of record N on the Mobile If you don't get asked - which one should have precedence ... could be a problem
I'm just trying to estimate usability and effort - perhaps I should sit down and write plugins for TDE and SyncEvo - it looks like all of us are planning to use TDE in the future From the discussion with SyncEvo I understood they have the best SyncML library available.
Hi deloptes:
I have a virtual machine running OwnCloud. Calender and addresss data is managed on the computer with thunderbird (or by the web frondend) and for syncing there are cheap (~ 1€) apps for iphone and adroid and windows.
There is a file syncing tool in debian available, but I use konquerer with webdav to access files.
I found no way to use CalDav and/or CardDAV with net connections (only on local machine) and get no answer for related question on this list.
Hope that helps Rolf

Here some comments

This means OwnCloud is the master for your PIM data. One of the things that make it more complex is that I do use Nokia N9 and the next phone I'll buy will be Jolla. I'm also thinking of buying Jolla tablet. That is why I was hoping that someone would sit down and write a decent plugin for t(k)depim. The problem is in the complexity of the SyncML protocol ... so the only way would be to implement it based on syncevolution as they did it with akonadi.
In fact I'm not sure what is the status of the TDEPIM. I got desperate and dropped the work on the KDE+ akonadi and opensync and then dropped the idea to use KDE4+. One of the reasons was the discussion with syncevo and the syncml protocol. The other was the status of KDE4+. I then decided to stick to KDE3 , which fortunately got support by Thimothy. (God bless him!)

Which tool do you mean?

I am not sure this is the best way as well - you surely need a local server to provide the connection, however I need to sync at least 2 devices with the PC - so 3 devices in total, where the PC would be the one to provide the sync engine. I am not aware of any service keeping track of clients and changes in this context, which is the case in SyncML.
Having too many projects == work I was and am still not able to spend too much time in open source development. However checking the status I think it would benefit us all to bring the syncevo engine to the TDE community. Which means developing TDEPIM interface and plugin(s). Perhaps I should move the discussion to the dev list as the picture from user perspective is pretty clear now.
Any additional input is appreciated
Thanks

I use... Google. I don't like the company itself, but I must admit that using contacts and calendar make sync easy.

Hi I feel sorry for you - I can't give away my private and business infomation to foreign company, less to a one like Google.
My question implies that such simple solutions are not an answer.
thanks anyway
