Hi
In the latest trinity kicker does not work, but freezes, I attach a screen shot
Shall I switch to the nightly builds?

Are you using a stable release - R14.0.8 or a PSB repository - R14.0.9~pre?
Some time ago, a commit was pushed, which solves an infinite loop when rendering some special SVG files (icons). This is already part of PSB. If you're using a stable release, you can try update to PSB to see if that solves the problem you're having.
Cheers

I am using the one recommended https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Ubuntu_Trinity_Repository_Installation_Instr... in my understanding this is the stable release.

Ok I do that, one question: would that also solve the hibernation problem I reported a while ago?

I assume that this may be due to user permissions at the dbus level. See: https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Release_Notes_For_R14.0.8#Removed_dbus_polic...

Ok, thanks
BTW there seems now no graphical interface for administrating users (adding shells, group etc) I can do that from the console, yes, but a GUI is much more convenient. Any suggestions? Some time I used Kuser but that is also gone.

The kuser-trinity package is still available in the repository. I've never used it, so I have no idea if it's working properly.

I followed the advice, however the user is in the group plugdev.
Note: If a policykit is installed but a policykit agent is not available, it does not work well. In this case, it is advisable to uninstall policykit to allow the use of dbus rules.
If I try to uninstall policykit, then the netmanager and other important stuff including trinity itself will be de installed. So it seems I am trapped.

When I uninstalled policykit-desktop-privileges
Rebooted the machine, trinity could hibernate great.
1. So I *only* have to fix the kicker problem
2. and find out why Control-Alt-delete does not start the logout menu (but this is less serious.)

When you have added apt sources for PSB, you simply use "apt-get dist-upgrade" to upgrade packages that are newer. Updating meta-packages does not cause an overall update. At the same time, meta-packages themselves usually contain a minimum of updates.
Cheers

As I have mentioned many times, using "dist-upgrade" does not mean that it will spontaneously upgrade to a newer version of the distribution. It always depends on what distribution name you have written in apt sources lists. If you do not change the distribution name in the apt sources list yourself, the new version of the distribution will not be installed.
Using "dist-upgrade" means that new packages (such as new dependencies) can be installed during the update. While using "update" makes it impossible to update packages that require the installation of new dependencies.
So yes, I really meant "dist-upgrade" :)
Cheers

For me this has always been one of the most annoying parts of using Debian, apt based, derivatives. The command literally says it’s going to do a distribution upgrade. Users are justifiably not going to use it, period, until some dev, that they have to trust implicitly like we do Slávek, beats it into their heads that it is a completely and utterly misnamed command. *
Thanks Slávek for being patient with us.
Best Regards, Michael
* I’m sure there’s some original reason for the naming architecture of this command. Which does not change that from a user’s perspective the naming of this command is really, really fubar.

So I did
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
So
sudo apt-get upgrade
Already upgraded, hm I am puzzled
In any case much more important the kicker problem is still there and it is *very serious* because I have to reboot the machine.

One last thought, did you do an
apt-get update
first? Slávek would have to explain why, but the alias I pasted above is what I've been told to use.

If I remember correctly, for aptitude, "soft-upgrade" was added as the equivalent for "upgrade" and "full-upgrade" was added as the equivalent for "dist-upgrade". Maybe the point was to make the meaning more apt.

There is probably no reason to test Preliminary Testing Builds here, because there is no other patch in the master branch in the sense of this problem. Therefore, I do not assume that this could help solve the problem.
Here it is likely that it is caused by some icon. Can you try to move the icons aside and gradually move them back to find the icon that is causing this problem? There, it would be useful to get an icon so that the problem can be investigated and solved.

The Problem is: 1 want to add an icon that is a link to an app. As soon as I want to select an image for that icon the problem starts
2 I have already an existing is on vía add app to the docker. I want to changer the image and the problem starts I could send a video if that is helpful

I tried fix-missing
But this is now the second time this happens, I am a bit worried
I rebooted, then trinity was gone, so I logged into the GNOME environment and run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity Upstart is not active - masking initctl Adding 'local diversion of /sbin/initctl to /sbin/initctl.distrib' tdm.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it. Removing 'local diversion of /sbin/initctl to /sbin/initctl.distrib'
Now, I am really worried!!
When updating tdm-trinity package, there may happen that the "alternatives" mechanism causes a switch to another logon manager. It is not yet clear to us why this is happening. You use "dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity" to fix the situation.
Cheers

When you have added apt sources for PSB, you simply use "apt-get dist-upgrade" to upgrade packages that are newer. Updating meta-packages does not cause an overall update. At the same time, meta-packages themselves usually contain a minimum of updates.
I run apt-get upgrade (not dist-upgrade)
And obtained

Sometimes for me, desktop-base (or any other variants than desktop-base-trinity) may also need to be manually removed using dpkg --purge. I don't know if it applies here.
Then run dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity and maybe also dpkg-reconfigure desktop-base-trinity.

I completely turned the machine off and rebooted, then trinity was back again, alas with the kicker problem,
So I will try apt-get dist-upgrade now.
