Recently i have release my own custom version of T2 Linux OS, and i am pondering if i can include as window manager the TDE , i have written my thoughts about situation with X-Server in Linux community.

Hi Alexander, it's your own custom OS, you can do what you want with it. It is not for us to tell you what to include or not include in it :-) Cheers Michele

Michele you are right, but i am kind of hesitant to make such big decision i need to rely on community driven feedback, i am aware of technical progress in both projects , personally i tend to gravitate to XLibre just because it is follow up project after Xorg, but some enterprise client/s will use or using wayland and i have plans for my distro to break into enterprise market too. Rest assured TDE is a primary desktop for custom T2 Linux. Best regards Alexander
My thoughts are pretty simple. X11 is a protocol. I remember XFree86, then we had Xorg. Xorg seems to be largely a sponsored project by some dedicated engineers of certain companies, as well as open source contributions of course. It's a public infrastructure level type of software for Linux and other Unix systems.
Xorg is "end of life" in "maintenance mode" - well sorta, kinda not really. It kind of feels like Go-oo open office, when the official releases were long and far apart and so distros started patch stacking and trying to hold it together. Then we got a fork, LibreOffice.
Xlibre is actively being developed. It seems like they want to introduce novel extensions, and attack the decades of old code. I have been watching the commits and have been surprised to see very obvious code issues fixed. They're willing to attack and untangle a old software and I am happy for it

Why not both, or more. Whether VMs or multiboot, generic PCs and laptops are not limited to a single OS, thus not one single X system. Start with both, and single one out through experience.

From distribution perspective its very inefficient , because then you will be responsible for maintenance of 2 biggest code bases, at the moment i and my company can support only one.

I expect at some point one or the other will continue to exist. Given one (xorg) seems to be hell bend on EOL asap, I do not think it will be xorg down the road.
