Does Q4OS use NetworkManager? If yes then at least one of the connections needs to be configured to connect automatically.
I am not sure. I've been using Q4OS for less than a week.
Personally, I prefer to be online whether or not I'm in a DE. I use ifupdown and wpasupplicant. There are several alternatives.
