A workaround...
In KMail set the first filter to mark all incoming messages as 'new.'
KMail > Settings > Configure Filters
- Filter Rules > 'New' (the icon way down on bottom left) > Filter Actions
- Move it to the top of list
- Mark As > New
- Advanced tab
- Apply this filter to incoming messages:
- from all accounts
- Uncheck everything else
- don't apply to sent messages
- don't apply to manual filtering
- don't stop processing here
add anything else you need...
