Hello,
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu trusty and discovered some problems with hal. I read that hal is deprecated and that I have to purge the package in order to get rid of the problems.
Unfortunately kdebase-kio-plugins-trinity depends on hal, because of some hotplug/automount features
I could easily give up on the hotplug/automount feature. But kdebase-kio-plugins-trinity contains also the protocol support for ftp, http, ... - essential parts of trinity.
What's the future of this package?
Is it possible to convert the "strong dependency" to hal into a "package suggestion" and to eventually implement some fallback strategies if hal is not available (just deactivating all hal features)?
Regards, Stefan
Oh, now I see that there is no strong dependency to hal. It's already only a suggestion.
So my mail was as useful as a hole in the head.
Anyway, thanks.
Stefan

TDE 3.5.13.2 still depends on hal, but the upcoming version v14.0.0 does not. We are currently working to finalize v14.0.0, if you want you can follow that on the TDE bugszilla (bug 2014). The release should be sometime later this year.
Cheers Michele
Have you been able to improve the speed of TDE 14 over TDE 3.5.13.2 ?

Difficult to say without a comparison test. I know in the past Tim put a lot of effort in trying to speed up some of the core code, but not sure how much faster it has become. Perhaps someone else can help shading some light on this.
Michele
Thanks for the info.
