I was wondering if any of my fellow TDE users and TDE developers have ever experimented with the KDE connect app/system. I have installed it on my Debian/12 system and Android phone, and it appears to be working.
However, I don't think I am using all of the functionality, and cannot find documentation on how to do so. It seems like a powerful thing to have for connectivity between the desktop and phone.
This might be a great addition to the TDE desktop.
Regards, and Merry Christmas to all !
I wholeheartedly second this addition. Been using KDE Connect since I daily-drove Kubuntu 19.10 way back when, and have been using it on every possible platform since then. Mostly just for quick file transfers, but it's easier than spinning up pFTPd on my phone for a few minutes. Currently using it on Windows, even. (Quick pause to let every one get the contents of their stomach back down if need be.)
Heck, I even used it on Trinity at one point with a Qt5 port of the Plastik style, and I recall it being... usable enough for what I was doing. 😅

I actually have kde connect running on my TDE desktop. I just followed the instructions for Debian to do that. My question really is twofold:
1. Where might a person find the instructions on how to USE this; not just install it. Some things just seem to work by themselves, but others require some user interaction to get it to work.
2. Would it be possible to integrate this package directly into the TDE desktop as a trinity package? kandy-trinity is a mobile phone utility, but kde-connect is much more extensive with many capabilities, and software API that allows for modular expansion to other features of interactions with the mobile (cell) phone.

Everything is possible, but there are limitted ressources. The phone interoperability side of TDE is not a high priority and at least I am not aware of anyone working on this. I've been looking into this or that option, but the whole mobile stuff changed so much since TDE3 that it needs a considerable effort to catch up. My guess is that using the kde-connect in parallel would be the option for now.
A new finding today, I installed the full kde desktop (on top of tde) that is supplied with debian-12, and then ran it for a little while including kde-connect. Then, I went back to tde (which is my favorite of course). I found that the kde-connect now worked more like I would expect; i.e., all the icons are filled, most of the plugins (that I have tried anyway) seem to work where some before I made this change did not. So, it appears that the kde-connect may be missing some dependencies, or perhaps the plugins are not linking up to all their dependencies. I think I will just get this working as best I can and keep using it. I think a much better developer than I might be able to get this working fairly quickly as it should with TDE. That is my quick assessment. I think it would be a valuable asset. Does anyone not use a smartphone these days? Especially a person who might be using TDE on Linux?
