Hi all!
Does anybody know if there's a TDE way to replace <enter> with <shift>+<enter> for just one specific application windows? Reasomn is, that the last update broke OpenSCAD input: to vreate a new line it now requires <shift>+<enter> instead of <enter>, which is kind of strange.

Hi Nik, you can define a generic input action in the control panel, add condition to be active only on the openSCAD window and send a Shift+Enter when Enter is pressed.
Cheers Michele

Hi Michele,
maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot get any input action to work with <enter>.

I don't use any similar applications at the moment, but keyboard shortcuts usually can be made to work for my own needs.
May or may not be what you want, but did you look here? TCC > Regional & Accessibility > Keyboard Shortcuts Sorry, English-only settings. Don't know what this is in German.
One has to make sure that application shortcuts do not overlap with global shortcuts, but it seems like this ought to work. Then same your own scheme of shortcuts, so that when unforeseen changes (reinstallation, etc.) cause the system to revert to defaults, then all that is necessary is to go into the menu and choose Nik's shortcut scheme instead of Current Scheme; or make your current scheme Nik's scheme. (Probably a good idea to backup current settings first.)

Hm ... no success. But I just found that openscad works as intended on my laptop - with my user direcory mirrored to that device. So what ever keeps openscad from responding to <enter> is not present on the second machine. In other words, it's something in the system settings, not in the user profile, that causes my problem. Any idea how to find it?

Offhand, I would guess that maybe it is that your permissions might be stricter on the second machine (i.e., 600 permissions rw only for admin/user? but maybe you need rw-r-r, 655, I think it is?).
I have a few applications on my machine that sometimes give me that kind of problem; always takes a moment to remember that little bit.
Just in case, I am now in the midst of downloading everything scad, just to give it a test run. Besides, I might need one of these someday.

Well, I don't get any errors, neither on the console nor in .xsession-errors. Openscad Appimage works as expected. When I unpack the Appimage and run the openscad version from the Appimage <enter> does not work. Reason: system libraries are preferred in this case. So something in the installed system libraries as bogus. Question is: what is wrong and how do I identify it?

Hi Nik, just did a test in Kate with the following action: 1) Action type "Generic" 2) Trigger: shortcut trigger "Return" 3) Keyboard input: "a:b:c:d:e:Enter", "Send input to" active window 4) no condition for simplicity
When I press Enter in Kate, I correctly see "abcde" typed in for me and then the enter. If you use "Shift+enter" as keyboard input, it should do what you wanted.
Hope it helps. Cheers Michele

Sorry to say, but no, it does not even work with kate here. Oh, and I run "trinity-testing".

Hi Michele!
Ok, I messed up wit the screenshots, so I'll describe by way in clear text.
Trinty Control Center -> Regionl & Accessebility -> Input Actions.
Button "New Action" -> Tab "General": - Action Name: "TEST" - Action Type: "Generic" -> Tab "Triggers": -> "New" -> "Shortcut Trigger" -> "Select keyboard Shortcut" : "Primary Shortcut" : "Return" -> Tab "Actions": -> "New" -> "Keyboard Input" -> Keyboard input "TESTTEXT" : Send Input To : "Action Window" -> Tab "Condition": -> nothing selected (so should match any window) --> Apply
Result: eats all "Return" but does not send "TESTTEXT" to any window. This happens with all "Send Input To :".
So my guess is, "somewhere" I have a setting that eats "Return" for openscad, But I don't know where to look for it. Killing "khotkeys" disables "PintScreen"-Key, but otherwise it has no effect.
Nik

Hi Nik, This point is wrong. You need T:E:S:T:T:E:X:T if you want to see TESTTEXT. there is an example action that shows that and have some description on the format. Let me know how it goes. Cheers Michele

Oh my! I changed "Keyboard input" to "Shift+Return" and "Condition" matches the openscad window class, now it works as expected :) On a sidenote, "Shift+Enter" does not work. Is ther a difference between "Enter" and "Return"?
Thank you! Nik

Hi Nik, glad that it works now. Re shift+enter: do you mean it does not work as shortcut or it does not enter the key "shift+enter" ?
Cheers Michele

"Shift+enter" does not work as the key combination that should be sent to the application window. The comment of the "Hello"-example says that "Enter" or "Return" generate '"enter" (i.e. new line)', but in my case "enter" did not send a newline while "return" did.

It’s from back in the day when typewriters were a thing. You had ‘carriage return’ and ‘line feed.’ Both of which were combined into the typewriter's slide-lever you used to get back to the beginning of a line and move down one line. Early computers only used one character (to save disk space), but Windows copied it verbatim so now:
EOL is generally "\r\n" on Windows and "\n" on anything else.
Which is confusing as all get out, as the lay terms "return" equates to "\n". And, as we’re not on Windows the lay term “enter” ("\r") isn’t used for us.
That came from memory, ymmv....
Short answer? Microsoft fucks up another thing...
Best, Michael

Bah!, I think I flipped the terms above.
CR, carriage return, \r LF, line feed, (new line?), \n
The lay terms "Enter" and "Return" come from usage on keyboards. AFAIR "Enter" is Windows, "Return" was pre-windows.

"enter" does not seem to work, but "Enter" (capital E) seems to work fine. Enter and Return are normally used for the same key, I have seen both name used in different keyboard layouts...
