Hi everyone!
My PCLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster version 2015, September 5 is ready to download!
I call it non-official because it doesn't come from the PCLOS team and since it contains software coming from outside of their repos, it is also not supported by them. It only has a special ''permission to exist'' from the PCLinuxOS dev team.
It is a complete system that can be used as a LiveDVD or it can be installed (from the LiveDVD).
New on this release: -Fully up-to-date PCLinuxOS 2015 base system -Based on TDE R14.0.1 Its is the first release of my remaster with TDE R14 series -Kernel 4.1.6 -Choice of either classic Grub or Grub2 -Smaller ISO size
On this LiveDVD: -Tons of TDE software and major apps like LibreOffice 5, Firefox 40, Gimp and so... -PCLinuxOS does NOT use SystemD
Login info (on the LiveDVD): Regular user:guest Password:guest Super user: root Password:root
System requirement: A x86 computer with at least 384mb of RAM. It is a 32bit system, but it can be installed on a 64bit system too.
Installation instructions: http://pclinuxoshelp.com/index.php/Installing_PCLinuxOS Please follow them... :)
Download link for the multi-part zip file: http://www.filefactory.com/file/6iijpmjql9d5/PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_5sept... http://www.filefactory.com/file/5l7dw8thwpqb/PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_5sept... http://www.filefactory.com/file/hlbb8kc6pzp/PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_5sept2...
Md5 Sum of the iso: daf7e3d0231205f8be689280040e0d0a
If you like what you see, you can consider giving some money to the Trinity Desktop Environment project! It is very important to do so, because development and internet infrastructure needed to brought you TDE are expensive to buy and keep running, so the future of TDE is in your hands!

Alexandre,
This is great news! I'm always happy to hear of a new TDE release for PCLOS. Thank you for your efforts!
But FileFactory! They claim it will take over 7 hours to download without signing up for their paid service, and I'm not sure how reliable the download will be.
Would it be possible to start a BitTorrent?

I will try to hâve someone upload it to trinitydesktop.org and I'll try to upload it somewhere else too
Thank you! Alexandre

Thanks Alexandre, The first part has just completed download, so the other 2 parts should be here in 6 or 7 hours. :-(
2 silly questions ... Q1. IIRC. Linux unzip has issues with split files, is it just as easy as cat PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_5sept2015.zip.0* > PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_5sept2015.zip to recover the file and then unzip it?
Q2. Is the resulting .iso a hybrid .iso that I can simply dd to a USB stick? The "cheapo" notebook/netbook that I use for testing does not have an optical drive.
Thanks, Glen
PS. Part-2 is downloading at a blistering 49.5 KB/s, so should be here in about 3 hours. G.

Hi all,
First I'd like to thank you for trying my remaster!
Ark does not work with multi-part zip files. There is quite a few archive managers who are capable of doing it on Linux, if I remember well, such as PeaZip, Xarchiver, File-roller. Try to search for archive managers in your favorite package manager, and you'll find quite a few who can do the job. Or most archive managers on Windows do the job.
To start PCLinuxOS livedvd from USB, I recommend using UnetBootin. But be aware that UnetBootin does not always work on first try. There is also the possibility to buy an external USB DVD drive. They are 15-20$ brand new on ebay. I bought one and it makes life much easier on drive-less laptops.
For others who might have trouble with FileFactory, you can try back later.
Thank you! -Alexandre

Hello Alexandre, I do the other remaster as you possibly know. Anyway have you had trouble with the trinity repo for pclinuxos, I ask this as it was cleaned up a couple of days ago and there are a couple of dependencies missing, notably kb3-common, I personally was lucky enough to update before the clean out but others wasn't :) I'll be downloading yours to see what the difference is and to nick any ideas lol :P you of course can do likewise :)
By the way as regards to liveusb, pclinuxos does have a live usb tool that can transfer the iso to a usb in the repos, might be worth a try as unetbootlin can have hit and miss results.
Thanks

Glen I personally don't know if it is a hybrid iso, if not you can create the hybrid yourself without much issues and then dd to the USB if that's the preferred method for you :) I installed to the netbook using the pclinuxos-liveusb tool but you will need to have a usb stick formatted to ext 2,3 or 4 and a copy of pclos running either an installed version or from the iso itself using live mode. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: trinity-users-unsubscribe@lists.pearsoncomputing.net For additional commands, e-mail: trinity-users-help@lists.pearsoncomputing.net Read list messages on the web archive: http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/ Please remember not to top-post: http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net/mailing_lists/#top-posting

News update! As promised, I uploaded my PCLinuxOS non-official TDE remaster on another place: Here it is, on my Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B37cGFKZ9yM8bG0zSVpVeXZFam8/view?usp=sharin...
Important! With further testing, I found that on some computers, once the system is installed and running from the HDD, trinity-ksmserver crash at logout. To avoid this problem, simply switch to use TDM instead of GDM. Instruction are available in the ReadMe file on the desktop.

Just finished downloading it. Thanks: One question. You don't mention whether it's 32 or 64 bit. I am aware that 32 bit will run on both.

Hi Alexandre,
On this machine Intel P4 dual core, Nvidia 64Mb Gforce card, I end up with a black screen then a blue one telling me that "No screens found" and then asking if I want to configure manually. Though I can't actually change anything. Odd because your previous versions work just fine.

It's a cli tool too :) however if you need a gui to get it going properly type as root "do-vesa" no quotes and reboot, that will give you a basic gui for you to configure X by the GUI version of XFdrake

Hi,
I'm sorry to say that it is possible that newer kernel and/or Xorg version might in some cases not deal very well with older hardware.
When you see the black screen, try the following: Do Ctrl+Alt+F1 Login as root user Type drakx11 OR drakxconf (not sure which one is the one to use) Try different configurations, but it is easy to mess Xorg settings... These small utilities are in TUI (text-mode user interface); not 100% commandline, not 100 graphical Type reboot OR you can try to start X rightaway by typing startx, but it might not work without rebooting, because Xorg may still be running, but with a black screen.
Thank you! -Alexandre

Thankyou for your help :-)
I've put an 128Mb GF Nvidia card into the AMD dual core machine and the Live CD works just fine now. At the moment its installing itself.
Unfortunately the other AMD machine is not going to be as easy as changing the video card since everything is on board and I believe the GPU is part of the CPU.
Either way thanks for producing your PCLinuxOS cd, its much appreciated.

I've now discovered that all three of my machines behave in exactly the same way. One Intel and two AMD processors. The AMD CPU are a 64 bit dual core and the other is a 64 Bit quad core, both running Radion video cards, though the latter is built in to the CPU.
Easiest thing to do is to blow away /etc/X11/xorg,conf and then use XFdrake to set up the nvidia card with noveu driver. note the uppercase in XF :)
Isn't the Noveu driver the default one ? on Alexandre's PCLinuxOS.
I recall that I had this problem with another distribution. In the end I just nuked it and went back to Alexandre's previous release !
