Slackware package management with pkgtool is really rather easy. You just download the packages, open a shell in the directory the packages are in (so pkgtool finds them easily) and run the pkgtool command - once it starts the steps to install will be obvious. Pkgtool does not resolve dependencies - you have to do all that manually - and pkgtool will install the packages without complaint whether deps are satisfied or not. In that case the app will not work, but can be fixed after the fact by finding and installing all the dependencies.

Gslapt (GUI like Synaptic) and slapt-get are somewhat like apt-get, but if they resolve any dependencies, they don't do it very reliably.

Is it possible to install TDE on puppy Linux Slacko 5.7? It is supposed to be Slackware version 14 compatible. I have seen that there is a TDE build for Slackware with instruction here, but it seems to be outdated.

Thank you for the info! Building and compiling software is still not at my reach... The provided binary packages are quite old.

I think that I'll try to install TDE on Ubuntu-based Puppy Linux instead. Packages are already built and I have a better understanding of deb package installation than Slackware...
