[OT] KMail filter regex question
by Michael 18 Oct '20

18 Oct '20

Hi All, Yeah, I don’t have a decent grasp on regex, but I need one (I think) for a KMail filter. I need to match this one line in a Subject: ***SPAM*** lfd on srv07.srv07-inet-design.com: 93.174.93.68 (NL/Netherlands/-) blocked for port scanning (the spam part is intermittent), based on these two pieces: ‘lfd on srv07.srv07-inet-design.com:’ -and- ‘) blocked for port scanning’ Is there a way to do that without regex? If not, anyone know a solution off the top of their head? Or a really good guide to regex (that doesn’t make your head swim)? Best, Michael

yuge problem!!
by Gene Heskett 14 Oct '20

14 Oct '20

Greetings folks; I finally figured out how to convert fetchmail into an imap protocol, needed because shentel.net's dovecot email server ignores fetchmails expunge of fetched messages, but does allows the imap version to delete fetched messages. And I spent several hours with a browser deleting 30 some k of old messages earlier this week. but!!!!! My ISP is apparently doing a restore from a very old backup, and is feeding fetchmail nearly 27k old messages dating from about 1 march of this year that are not being detected by the duplicate removal function of kmail. At the present download rate it will take over a day to catch up to current messages and a 2T drive will be about used up, and kmails message counters will overflow screwing with my database long before that. How can I cope with this? I need a script that I can filter this crap to /dev/null until the timestamp on the incoming message is later than about 23:30 on 10/13/2020. Help! Thanks for any rescue. I tried making .fetchmailrc use /dev/null for an mta but thats a fetchmail killer error. Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Exegnulinux Remaster question
by Dr. Nikolaus Klepp 09 Oct '20

09 Oct '20

hi all! I'm currently stuck at my remastering of exegnulinux. This is what I've got: - HD installation, customized to my needs. - TDE customized for "user" - TDE configs moved to /etc/skel/.trinity (removed the old exe config) - /usr/lib/adduser.local to customize installation for new users I can create a iso with "refractasnapshot" and it works - almost. The ISO is bootable, but the TDM startup theme is the default exegnulinux theme, as is the desktop theme and .bashrc. As far as I can tell, the skeleton files from "exegnu-userdefaults-trinity" are copied over my user-files. Does anybody know where exegnulinux hides the sketon/template for the live user? Does it redownload the files? I'm puzzled, 'cause I replaced all the skelton files from "exegnu-userdefaults-trinit" with my version, but it did not help. kmail through ssh tunnel
by William Morder 08 Oct '20

08 Oct '20

Since we are going off-topic all over the place, I will try to be the pillar of stability here. (I know, I know, but nobody else will do it.) I am starting a new thread, because this goes off-topic in a good way. I believe it was Michael who wrote this memorable line, which immediately got my attention: > POP through an always present SSH tunnel. Now, I have used ssh tunnels for lots of programs that are more (what's the word?) "passive"; that is, listening to online radio, xmpp clients, wget, youtube-dl and apt-get and other things like that, where I am mostly downloading data. But when I tried to run Kmail over any proxy connections, it would crash. It seemed to me that an ssh tunnel would be the way, but how to do it? Bill jabber/xmpp dr_mojo_contendo(a)hot-chilli.net

How hard to make KMail multi-threaded?
by Michael 08 Oct '20

08 Oct '20

Not horribly important, but whenever KMail checks mail is ‘freezes’ for a bit and interrupts typing/mouse clicks (just for KMail, rest of system runs fine). Would it be hard to make KMail multi-threaded? I’m assuming that’d ‘fix’ the freezes… Again, not at all critical, but if it’s easy, I’ll get off my butt and put in a feature request. Best, Michael

how to upgrade TDE without ALL language packs?

Now that I checked my own sources.list, it occurred to me to try an upgrade, and there are lots of new Trinity packages available. Startup in Ubuntu, teams and zoom
by Uwe Brauer 06 Oct '20

06 Oct '20

Hi As most of you, I have to use teams and zoom (and to a lesser extend skype). However all these program consume quite a bit of CPU and *all* start when I am logging in. In order to deactivate this feature, using Ubuntu 16.04 and the relevant trinity version, I have to login to Ubuntu and use the Start Applications configuration tool to remove these 3 programs from starting. Is there any trinity tool doing the same? I can't find one. Or can I use the Ubuntu Start App configuration tool from trinity? Trinity components missing from the OpenSuSE repository
by J Leslie Turriff 05 Oct '20

05 Oct '20

This is not strictly a Trinity question. I have been trying to follow the tutorials in TQt Assistant, but I'm being stymied by several issues. I have almost the complete suite of Trinity components installed (bar a few that I don't want to run even accidentally). The first (and perhaps most important) issue is that, while trinity-tqt3-debuginfo and trinity-tqt3-debugsource are present and installed, trinity-tqt3 is not, nor is it present in OpenSuSE's trinity-x86-64 repository. I'm not sure what that package provides, but I suspect that its absence is part of my problems. I am able to run tqdesigner, but most of the icons that it ought to provide to GUIs that are created are missing (e.g. fileopen, filesave, editcut, editcopy, ...); perhaps these would have been provided by trinity-qt3? I'm also a bit bemused that tqdesigner is installed in /usr/bin, not /opt/trinity/bin; at first I was afraid that it had come from kde4 or 5. There is also kdevdesigner, which is a component of tdevelop. It loops if started without a filepath argument, and crashes when I try to open any file. (Actually, all of the components of that package seem to behave this way.) Which is the preferred toolset to be used for development, tdevelopment or the tqt3-* components? In any case, I'm assuming that I'm not going to get any farther without trinity-tqt3 installed. Is there a way for me to get it direct from the Trinity git environment? Leslie

the lure of unknown distros ~ versus too much stuff

When I was a couple decades younger, I used to try out new distros. And it's fun, and if I had more machines on which I could run experiments, while keeping at least one or two machines working soundly, then I would jump in without hesitation. I used to have a room full of Frankenstein computers, all of them built out of parts, used to perform different kinds of tasks, including at least one or two test machines. But now I must be content with just a BIG desktop Frankenstein, although I am trying to get a couple of reconditioned laptops for testing machines and for use as travel. I have the same basic problem with both books and music. To untrained eyes (such as landlords, property managers, etc.), this looks like useless clutter; but I swear, all this stuff is the absolute bare minimum needed for me to accomplish what I have set out to do. There is nothing to be gained in trying to explain to outsiders just *why* I believe that I need so much, because they won't ever get it no matter how well I explain it to them. For the present, I must try to limit myself to keeping things that will actually fit inside my living space; otherwise, there will be nowhere for me to rest my head at night. KoolDock What is it good for?
by midi-pascal 02 Oct '20

02 Oct '20

KoolDock is a nice app docking application. As I don't want to have any icons on the screen background because they are hidden by other running program, I added the apps I use the most in it. I placed it at the top of my second screen and set the auto-hide feature on. So even while running a program in full screen I just have to "touch" the top of the screen with the mouse to make it appear and start an other program. Well, it is old (since KDE 1.4) but it is easy to use, slim, very reliable and has a nice look. I used it for years with TDE and thought it was a nice goody to give as a contribution. For more information: https://store.kde.org/p/1081070/ Enjoy it! ubuntu 16.04 freshly installed does not start after sudo dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity

Hi On a old machine (thinkpad X200s) I installed Ubuntu 16.04 (64bit) as in the machine (Thinkpad X1) I am using for writing this message. While I installed trinity on the X1 via deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-sb xenial deps-r14 main-r14 deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-sb xenial deps-r14 main-r14 For the old X200s machine I chose deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-r14.0.x xenial main deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.x xenial main deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-r14.0.x xenial main deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.x xenial main Be it as it may, everything was fine on the X200s till I run sudo dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity To use tdm-trinity instead of lightdm Now when I try to reboot the machine never shows a login but is in the infinite loop. long standing bug, dates clear back to kde 2ish time
by Gene Heskett 30 Sep '20

30 Sep '20

Greetings all; Once every 3 or 4 moons, the kmail config gets changed despite. the 4 "sticky" buttons in the editors upper right corner being checked. I have reached a conclusion that somehow, my hunt-n-pecking ancient fingers have triggered a hot-key sequence that does this. Its been a problem since kde2 here. I don't know if thats the case, but where is the tde storage of this hot-key data for kmails composer? IMO, if the sticky bit is set, it should be locked, requiring the sticky bit to be intentionally turned off before one of those 4 options at the top of the composer screen can be changed. But that isn't the case, its been changed without a conscious action on my part, probably 70 or more times in the past 20 years. Probably by my fat fingering, but that should be disallowed by any method if the sticky bit it set. It is not protected despite the sticky bit being displayed as checked. Can this be looked at the next time you are "checking kmail's tire pressure"? Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. TQt Tutorials
by J Leslie Turriff 30 Sep '20

30 Sep '20

I'm trying to get a handle on writing an app for Trinity, starting with stuff from the Wiki; but it's a struggle. I Followed Support => Wiki => Developers => Tutorials and Documentation for QT and TQT and hiding under the QT3 API Documentation link (which really points to TQt Reference Documentation (Open Source Edition) I found the Getting Started section. Following How To Learn TQt showed me C++ GUI Programming with TQt 3 (which I have ordered); many of the other links on this page point to a now-deceased TrollTech website. :-( I moved on to Tutorial #1, and after figuring out that references to "qmake" should really be to "tqmake", I tried compiling the fourteen example programs. They all fail with the same error. Example #1 is typical: | $ make | g++ -c -O2 -g -m64 -fmessage-length=0 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fstack-protector -funwind-tables -fasynchronous-unwind-tables -pipe -fvisibility=hidden -fvisibility-inlines-hidden -Wall -W -O2 -DQT_NO_DEBUG -I/usr/share/tqt3/mkspecs/default -I. -I. -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/tqt3 -o main.o main.cpp | g++ -luuid -o hello main.o -L/usr/lib64 -L/usr/lib64 -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 -luuid -ltqt -lXext -lX11 -lm | /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/7/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: main.o: undefined reference to symbol '_ZN13TQApplication13setMainWidgetEP8TQWidget' | /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/7/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: /usr/lib64/libtqt-mt.so.3: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line | collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status | make: *** [Makefile:88: hello] Error 1 in which the loader seems to be complaining about setMainWidget, a method of TQApplication. It seems to be expecting to find it in | /usr/lib64/libtqt-mt.so.3 and I see on the web that adding | -ltqt-mt will fix the problem, and several web responses say to use | ./configure LIBS=-ltqt-mt but how would I do that with tqmake? Apt sources generated for Devuan distribution names
by Slávek Banko 28 Sep '20

28 Sep '20

Hi all Devuan fans, because we love both Debian and Devuan, we've brought you one little news about PSB and PTB repositories. Recently, we started generating separate apt information for the names of Devuan distributions. This means that for Devuan you can now start using Devuan distribution names in the apt sources lists. It remains valid that the binary packages are identical for both Debian and Devuan distributions, and that it is possible for Devuan to use the names corresponding to the Debian distribution. Our principle that systemd must not be a forced dependency is still firmly held. Note: For official stable repository, we will start generating apt sources for the Devuan distributions names starting with the release of R14.0.9. Cheers -- Slávek

"TDE launcher could not be reached via DCOP"
by D. R. Evans 27 Sep '20

27 Sep '20

Every few weeks/months I suddenly start to receive the message in the subject line when trying to start programs from the quicklauncher, the TDE main menu or the "Open with..." menu item. Usually, logging out and back in "solves" the problem. Today it did not, and I had to reboot. Is there some less catastrophic way to get things working again when I start to see this message? Doc PS I suspect that some process dies and for some reason TDE doesn't have a watchdog on it to force it to restart (if that guess is correct, it sounds like two bugs to me: one that the process can crash, one that TDE doesn't notice and do something about it). -- Web: http://enginehousebooks.com/drevans

Hi all! If anybody has a OrangePi PC Plus, I've created an image with TDE and would like some feedback: https://github.com/zwieblum/devuan-images The RT-kernel does not work 100% on this platform, so there's only an image for OrangePi Zero with LinuxCNC. Those H2+/H3 processors come with a coprocessor just like the BBB, so the realtime signalgerator can be removed from the kernel task and gives way better results than softstepper on ARM (e.g. RPi) Nik -- Please do not email me anything that you are not comfortable also sharing with the NSA, CIA ...

Migration of services - 3. mailing lists
by Slávek Banko 24 Sep '20

24 Sep '20

Hi all, the third service on the migration list are mailing lists. -- Migration status -- New mailing lists have been successfully created, the archive has been migrated, and users are gradually subscribing to new mailing lists. The link between newsgroups and mailing lists has been updated to new mailing lists. For the time being, there is an active migration agent that exchanges posts between old and new mailng lists. However, it is scheduled to be stopped at the end of October. If you are still subscribed to old mailing lists, it is a good idea to subscribe for new ones and unsubscribe from old ones. -- What needs to be done -- Once we proceed with the migration of the DNS servers of the trinitydesktop.org domain, it will be a good idea to add a DKIM key to the DNS so that we can set up DKIM signing on the mail server. -- More ideas and suggestions? Ubuntu20.4+pre-stable Thinkpad X1: batterie running, screen gets dark trinty freezes

Migration of services - 2. git repository
by Slávek Banko 22 Sep '20

22 Sep '20

Hi all, the second service on the migration list is the git server - git repositories. -- Migration status -- The GIT server was successfully migrated. The previously used SCM Manager has been replaced by Gitea. Gitea is a GitHub-style service, so it serves not only as a server for GIT repositories, but as a comprehensive platform - workspace for developers and users. See https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/TDE_Gitea_Workspace Currently, the primary place to work with GIT is TDE Gitea Workspace (TGW) located on a VPS donated by vpsFree.org. The second instance of Gitea is located in a virtual machine on a new tde-box donated by Integricloud. This second instance is in read-only mode to serve as a second copy that no one can write to directly. The individual repositories between these instances are synchronized every hour. The CGit interface has also been migrated. This can be used for quick searches in git repositories. It is configured to display data directly from the TGW GIT repositories, so there is no delay - commits to the TGW are immediately visible in CGit as well. TGW is connected to the new mailing list commits(a)trinitydesktop.org, so if you want to be informed about all changes in GIT, you can subscribe to this mailing list. If you want to be informed about pull-requested and issues, you can create an account in TGW and turn on the watch on the repositories that interest you. -- What needs to be done -- It seems that everything related to the migration of the GIT server is now complete. TGW has been used successfully for more than two years. Once we proceed with the migration of the DNS servers of the trinitydesktop.org domain, it will be a good idea to change the address for TGW, because the current https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea may look confusing. I would like https://gitea.trinitydesktop.org/ -- More ideas and suggestions? Does everything work fine with the TGW and CGit? Do you have any other ideas and suggestions? Cheers -- Slávek

DVD automounted
by phiebie＠drei.at 22 Sep '20

22 Sep '20

When I nowadays insert a DVD/CD into the player, the LED starts flashing and the disk spins up. And keeps spinning some 4 minutes, then at last stopping automatically. Very annoying as that spinning is done at maximum playerspeed with inherent noise. Audio, video, data, all the same. On the desktop meanwhile appeared an icon with the title-text of the disk. Clicking on it offers some actions, but not the most needed one "close". I disabled in control center services the media notifier daemon but to no avail, even after rebooting. The icon kept popping up. Where else is a possibility to switch off the autodetect-function? Regards, Peter.

TDE distro for beginners
by Dr. Nikolaus Klepp 21 Sep '20

21 Sep '20

Hi all! There has been a question on this list some weeks ago about which TDE capable distro is good to begin with. Now I had the need to prepare a linux beginners course for "windows damaged minds" - and was more or less forced to take a look at the available distros, beginner friendlyness, languge support, speed and ease to use. I found this process to be quite painful, so I decided to give you my personal view of the entry hurdles that M$ victims have to get over and whit what distribution I ended up with. My initial plan was to start with a stock live distro - something advocated as "user friendly, modern, ..", let the students create a live-usb, play with the original ui, install TDE and then get into linux. Turned out to be not that easy at all. From the linux side of view all distros have their right to exists. Many are just not very fund of a user leaving the "right way". From the UI aspect, M$ is a nightmare of a spectial kind and most of the distros mimic that nightmare in a "creative" way, only a few ignore it. So let's begin with UI nightmares that can kill the "linux experience": Window border/handles: 1 or 2 pixel wide window borders or handles as found on M$, AntiX, MX, Mint, all GNOMEs and "modern" UIs. Looks cool and stylish, but is a pestilence when you don't have 800x600 pixel display. For antiX and MX: It took me a week to realize that windows can be resized and not only maximized. Some GUIs have "interesting" behaviour of objects: e.g. AntiX: right click on destop item brings up a menu centered under the cursor, which happens to select "Edit ..." as long as you keep the RMB pressed and executes "Edit ..." when the RMB is released. All KDE based GUIs have UI quirks of their own, e.g. all menues disappear when you press LMB outside the menu - only the dreadful cashew keeps it's menu open till you press ESC (or "Close") - what an easteregg. Only OpenSuSE KDE mitigates this problem: the cashew is disabled. The only distribution with a plain unsable UI is Ubuntu ("slow is the new fast" - it matches M$). Why is the UI interesting at all? It's the first stage where the user can or cannot choose. If choice is difficult, it's not a choice at all - and that leads to the question of "what's the point in linux", which I definity do not want to argue with in a beginners course. So why install TDE at all? Virtually all "user friendly" distributions suffer the "configs are scattered all over the pace"-syndrom. That includes M$, MX, AntiX, all XFCE and openbox *box based GUIs (exeption: refracta-xfce). Most have dreadful "launcher" application that changes it's content depending on the flow of sahara sandunes. e.g. MX: 2 part window, left side chages content when mouse moves over right side or you try to find the shy scrollbar inbetween. Same on all KDE based UIs. On Ubuntu it's different, you don't know what will happen next (most of the time nothing happens). ALL of the non-TDE UIs including M$ ignore laptops or hide the options in a very secret place, e.g. it's quite a surprise to observe what happens when you close the lid. To clearify: You can install TDE on all the tested distributions and you gain functionality and choice by doing so. But on some distributions you loose the built-in goodies (e.g. MX tools), which is a problem - not necessarily for beginners (they might not even notice), but for the poor guy trying to teach if the beginners take notice. Languge settings: almost all distributions have a problem with language selection at boottime. You can choose e.g. german on the bootloder, but it's ignored on the live image. Only the commertial distros get that kind of right, where OpenSuSE does the best job and Ubuntu speaks an interesting variant of german that I have never heared of before - might be marketing-german, consequently it also uses marketing-megabyte and marketing-gigabyte. When the live-image is installed either to disk or live-USB, then the language is set correctly after the next boot. That's a nuicance, but viable - if you find the correct installer in the scattered menues and you don't mind loosing 15 minutes of your time with explanation. Please note that all refracta-based distros have a "Installer"-icon the desktop (exegnu, refracta, MX, AntiX ..). A note on all "modern" UIs: somehow the bad M$ habit to scatter configs and important stuff over equally over all menus has found it's way into linux. There is not a single distibution (exception: exegnulinux) that has an equivalent to tdecontrol. KDE based kcontrol is crippled - that's a KDE problem. Ubuntu has .. I don't know how to say that polite. The MX tools are in a shallow menu reachable from the launcher, you need to always go that menu if you need a different tool. Well, all of that is "business as usual" for M$ users, but I don't like it as it takes time to explain. Comming to the ease of installing TDE on the different distributions: Following the steps in the TDE wiki it's quite easy to do for all distros - if you know enough englisch to follow the steps. That said, the only distribution that requires only one additonal step to get going with TDE in german is exegnulinux (install tde-i10n-de). For all others I need to cheat :) So what's my conclusion? First of all use something with refracta on board if you want to set up a course (Exegnu, refracta-xfce, MX, AntiX ...). You can tailor your image for exactly what you want to teach. All refracta based distros offer the same unmatched functionality in respect of portability. These show no difference to a regular devuan installation. Even LinuxCNC works without problems :) Keep in mind, that the HD installation will not always boot from USB, so use live-usb-installer. My ranking list: - Exegnulinux ist the easiest to handle (beowulf). - Refracta-xfce gives a well configured XFCE without any specific tools (beowulf), it's a perfect starting point, too. - MX and AntiX have special tool that do not make your live easier if you leave the right way, you'll need to invest quite some time to get going and you ruin the spirit of the distributions. If you do not plan to go TDE centric these are most likely ideal (and you have a different audience). - Stay away from anything systemd and/or GNOME like Mint, Ubuntu, OpenSuse etc. - on one hand they boot slow (nobody beats Ubuntu! .. ok, M$ is slower but they have decades of experience). On the other all that marketing blablabla that went into these distributions make them absolutely inflexible. Not to mention that you have to find something like refacta for these distros in the first place. - Knoppix: I almost forgot to mention this. It's systemd-free since 8.6. and comes with a lot of stuff. It's a good startingpoint, but the latest verson (8.6.1) is over a year old and the new (9.0) is not availableon the mirrors. For me it did not offer any benefit over the refracta-based distros, but you might think different. Latest Trinity+ Ubuntu 20.04 sound ok in Ubuntu but not loud enough in trinity
by Uwe Brauer 20 Sep '20

20 Sep '20

Hi On a Thinkpad X1 (8th generation) I installed freshly Ubuntu 20.04 and the trinity preliminary stable version # Trinity preliminary stable builds deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-sb focal deps-r14 main-r14 deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-sb focal deps-r14 main-r14 I run into a bizarre sound problem. First I had to run the advice found in https://askubuntu.com/questions/1230363/20-04-internal-speaker-audio-is-not… After starting the Laptop I login to the Ubuntu/Gnome environment. There I use either 1. Google Meet 2. Or an application called collaborate To do a video conference. The sound of the partner of the conversation is ok, not as loud as in Windows 10 (which the machine has also installed), but ok. When I log out and log into trinity repeating the steps, the sound I hear is much more silent. I could not try out skype, since the test call does not recoginise the microphone, but this is a different problem. When I open in trinity a new session and login into the Ubuntu/GNome environment, the sound still is low. I tried out pluseaudio or sof-hda-dsp The Micros which are offered are 1. Default System 2. Sof-hda-dsp digital microphone 3. Sof-hda-dsp digital steoro microphone The headphones could be either 1. Default 2. Sof-sda-dsp Speaker+Headphone 3. Sof-sda-dsp HDI3/DP3 OUTPUT (not working) 4. Sof-sda-dsp HDI3/DP2 OUTPUT (not working) 5. Sof-sda-dsp HDI3/DP2 OUTPUT (not working) I am really desperate. I don't have the problem running my Thinkpad X1 (4th generation running Ubuntu 16.04 and the corresponding Trinity version) Any advice is strongly appreciated. The video issue is essential in the Covid period. Shall I try to install Ubuntu 18.04 on the new X1? (I can't use 16.04 because the netcard is not supported). You can also try this: - Boot the Live USB as normal - Run the MXPI (Main Menu >> MX Tools >> MX Package Installer) - In tab ‘Popular Applications’, section Language - Select your language - Install Again, not sure it’ll work, and there might be an additional step to set/change the language somewhere. How to get rid of mailing list footers in replies?
by J Leslie Turriff 16 Sep '20

16 Sep '20

Whenever I reply to posts on the Trinity list (where we're obligated to bottom-post) I have to backspace over the multiline footer that's quoted by kmail. Is there an easy way to automate that? It doesn't look like a filter setting will handle that. Or maybe the footer needs to be preceded by the standard deliminator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_block#Standard_delimiter so that (hopefully) kmail will strip it off from a reply as described? problem with hibernate
by Uwe Brauer 16 Sep '20

Hi 1. I am using a X1 thinkpad (4th gen) running Ubuntu 16.04 and I got hibernate to work, trinity recognize it, in the sense that when I configure TDEPowersave the option appears 2. Yesterday I installed in a X1 thinkpad (8th generation) Ubuntu 20.04 and trinity. I had a little hope, that the new mail-server would have a mechanism, that would filter out these nauseating mails with quote on quote on quote... 6, 7 or 8 levels deep the full original text and then one or two lines reply. In vain, the old bad habit is seamlessly continued here. Am I the only one here, who finds this a nuisance? Regards, Peter.

The time of your email is actually set in the future, at least an hour after my system clock, which is set to local time, PDT US. Migration of mailing lists to a new server
by Slávek Banko 16 Sep '20

16 Sep '20

Hi all, we would like to inform you that as part of the migration of services to the new TDE server, new mailing lists have been created. Accounts subscribed to the original MLs have not been migrated, because the consent previously granted to receive posts from those MLs cannot automatically be considered as an approval for the new MLs. To ensure a smooth migration, an agent that forwards posts between old and new MLs has been setup. This allows time to subscribe to new MLs and unsubscribe from old MLs without missing any posts. The migration agent will be active until the end of October 2020, after which posts will no longer be forwarded and the old MLs may be deactivated any time. Therefore please subscribe to the new MLs as soon as possible and unsubscribe from the old ones. The full text of the announcement you can read in the archive of the tde-announcements mailing list - see https://mail.trinitydesktop.org/mailman3/.... To subscribe to the new MLs either use the webinterface: https://mail.trinitydesktop.org/mailman3/ or send a blank mail to the address of this new ML: users-join(a)trinitydesktop.org To unsubscribe from the original ML, send a blank email to the address of the original ML: trinity-users-unsubscribe(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net Thank you for your understanding. Cheers -- Slávek

systemd-homed - new thread
by William Morder 16 Sep '20

16 Sep '20

From Nik's previous post: https://linuxreviews.org/Systemd-homed This systemd crap is already bad enough, but homed will eventually work its way into other stuff beyond systemd, and then will become hard to avoid. It *sounds* good, being able to move home directories from one machine to another without so much fuss; but I already do that, pretty much, with only a little fuss. My suspicion is that somebody's mother is now trying to impose conformity on everybody, not just myself, to do our thinking for us; because, of course, it is for our own good. They are trying to get rid of a headache by giving us nightmares instead. Bill P.S. Note that I alone am sticking to the discipline of creating a completely new thread.

installing icecat from source packages
by William Morder 15 Sep '20

15 Sep '20

One of those headaches, for myself, is installing from source packages. I hate doing it, mainly because there are different archives, different methods for extraction, etc. No two sets of instructions for untar and install, etc., look alike. You may disagree, if you like, but that's how it goes with me. Anyway ... I managed to get icecat installed from source packages, the latest stable version, 60-something. (I saw a version 90-something on their site, but wonder about the 30 versions in-between that are missing ...) Right away, I noticed that a lot of problems totally vanished. I could explain in more detail, but some will believe me, and some will not, according to their own needs and wants. Now that I have it fresh in my mind, what needs to be done to make a successful installation, and seeing how useful it is, and wondering how I lived with lesser browsers, I thought maybe others might benefit from knowing the steps, now that I have it still fresh in my mind. If there is some way of sharing this list of steps, I would be glad to retrace; but I don't want to go to this trouble if nobody cares. It may be that a) it's already obvious how-to for most readers of this list, or b) others are already satisfied with their browsers, or c) don't care, for a host of other reasons or non-reasons. On a side note, I wonder if we could get a proper, working, up-to-date version of icecat into the repositories somewhere (as it has disappeared from Trisquel and others). I suppose a browser is not really a candidate for becoming a TDE-Trinity package? but it is a thought, since we already have Konqueror, which is a web browser as well as a file manager. Just making the offer, if anybody would find it useful. I don't even know where I would post it, that it could be found by those who are searching for it. TDE mediamanager - missing in root Konqueror ?
by William Morder 14 Sep '20

14 Sep '20

So this is a brand-new thread, because I want to set a good example for others. (That's me, a role model to the youth ...) I encountered a problem in the newest version of Konqueror that did not seem to exist in the older versions, so far as I know. When I want to inspect my hard drives (internal/external, mounted/unmounted), I found it is sometimes useful to enter, in the address bar: media:/ This gives me information about my drives at a glance, as well as allowing access to various tools and settings for working with those disks and partitions. I don't use it often (relatively speaking), but now I find that I cannot use it at all when running Konqueror as root. See attachments for screenshots. (Note that my weird colors in root are intentional; I override some settings to make it easier on my old eyes.) I already tested this on a fresh installation, before applying any customized settings. When it's not there, I find that I need to use it much more than I remember. I am sure that there are other ways to obtain the same information, other ways to accomplish the same things -- and I would be glad to hear them -- but for now, however, I really want to retrieve these tools. I have installed some new hard drives, and as usual, they need some help in finding their proper place in my system. Thanks for any help or suggestions! Hi all, in previous emails we recalled the history of the project and got acquainted with the current infrastructure. Now comes probably the most interesting part - tasks and topics for discussion. Tasks related to the infrastructure and organization of the project will be mentioned here. Discussions about development and source code are taking place on the tde-devels mailing list and on TGW - we will not mention them here now, because they are a different topic. -- Migration of services -- First of all, we need to complete the migration of services from Tim's original infrastructure. We will discuss the individual services that remain to be migrated in separate threads. Here's a quick overview: 1. web server: successfully migrated, several minor tasks remain to be solved. 2. git repository: SCM successfully replaced by Gitea, CGit fully functional. 3. mailing lists: successfully created brand new MLs, archive migrated, users now have time to subscribe to the new MLs and leave the old ones, which will be stopped later on. 4. wiki: successfully migrated, a new TDE skin remains to be created. 5. bugzilla: needs to be migrated or replaced with issues in TGW. 6. weblate: new service on VPS fully operational. 7. automation scripts: up and running and compared to the primary server, all branches are processed, not just the master. 8. crash reports storage service: needs to be migrated and improved, we don't know anything about this service. 9. patchwork: may be canceled, no one uses it, TGW provides much better functionality. 10. primary archive: successfully migrated, reorganized, cleaned up. 11. build service: QuickBuild replaced by reprepro + sbuild, now semi-automated without web interface, need further improvements. 12. etherpad: we should consider copy what we need and move it to TGW wiki. -- Project Legal status + donations -- Subsequently, we need to clarify the ownership of the project, which at the moment belongs to Tim as per CLA document. We shall also discuss about moving from a CLA to a DCO model, since this simplify contributions to the project (and to be fair, DCO has been used so far in most cases already). We will also discuss this as a separate thread. As you can see in the summary in previous e-mail, currently the project lives only thanks to donations from TDE team members. The donation link on the web is linked to Tim's account. Therefore, we have no idea what donation comes there and how they are used. Tim usually mentioned that donations are very low and that they are not enough for Tim's original infrastructure. We have no other information about these donations. In any case, at present, the TDE team does not have any project funding. Although it may be unbelievable, it is so - the project has no cash at its disposal. It all depends on the efforts of TDE team members and volunteers. Once we have clarified the rights to the project, we can discuss how to create the legal status of the project and how to go about accepting donations and hopefully make the TDE infrastructure more resilient. We will also discuss this as a separate thread. Once we have resolved the legal status and donations, we can return to the discussion of project promotion and merchandise. After all, it was a strong discussion that initiated this project status report. You can believe that I would also like to have a polo shirt, t-shirt and other things with the promotion of the TDE project. -- Renaming and moving into main distros -- Another challenging task for discussion is the very sensitive topic of renaming. As you know, many empirical renaming of KDE => TDE, K => TDE has already been done. A more significant renaming of Krita => Chalk was also made. In any case, there are many other programs and libraries that would cause a collision if TDE was installed in the usual /usr path instead of a separate /opt/trinity. I know that this is a sensitive topic, that this will not be of any benefit to our current users, and that it will require a lot of effort. We normally put it off until later, because we always have a lot of other and more useful work. However, we have to keep in mind that if we want to allow installation into /usr and thus also integration into distributions, we will sooner or later have to do the renaming. -- Wayland -- Another important topic that we will sooner or later be forced to deal with is called Wayland. It is difficult to consider this a successful project, because even after 12 years from the beginning of development, there are doubts about the readiness for production use. This begs the question of whether Wayland causes more problems than he solves. However, it is clear that there is a lot of pressure to enforce it "no matter what it costs" and so it may come a time when we need to adapt to it and add integration in TDE. -- Migration to Python3 -- In addition to the renaming and wayland tasks, where we think it will be something on a long term horizon, there is one global task that is already relevant at this time - the migration of the existing python2 code to python3, due to the imminent demise of python 2 from major distributions. Fortunately, this is not directly related to core modules (tdeedu seems to be ready for python3), but it will be important to make an effort to do so. This was the last part of the project status report. Subsequently, we will open discussions, as mentioned. If you have any other ideas regarding the status of the project, infrastructure, global tasks, do not hesitate to respond, or open a separate thread for discussion. I am glad that, thanks to the joint efforts of all of us, we can consider the status of the project to be good. Thanks to everyone - TDE team, translators, users and donors. Cheers -- Slávek

Hi Guys, I hope that everybody is staying safe and well ! Please could somebody tell me where Trinity stores its dictionary's. Mine seem to have a lot of duplicated words in them and I would like to clean them up if possible. Thanks in advance. -- Best Regards: Baron --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: trinity-users-unsubscribe(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net For additional commands, e-mail: trinity-users-help(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net Read list messages on the web archive: http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/ Please remember not to top-post: http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net/mailing_lists/#top-posting

Sounds like you have a good setup. Me, however, I'm old fashioned. I don't believe in anything other than local backups drives (some redudants are stored off site for safety) and DVDs. I have a MASSIVE collection of DVDs books spanning back to 1995. I just popped one in from 96 and copied the data to an ssd, just to see if I could do it. No school like old school. But seriously Mike, spray for those humans. They have diseases. They must be the same make and model. Perhaps you can buy just the board? Or a used working one? I've used both SG and WD and have had far more failures with WD. I guess it depends on the models and how they are used? I currently have nearly all SG drives in the "big machine" the server. 12 drives in total with no failures over the last 10 years. data recovery - recommendations & strategies
by William Morder 10 Sep '20

10 Sep '20

Hello again! I told you that you'd miss me when I'm gone. :-] Please, I need recommendations or strategies for recovering data. I had a flash drive become unreadable, after I plugged it into my new printer to print out some documents that had been long in waiting. Then, before I could save myself, I had a 1.5 TB hard drive also fail. On this hard drive is (of course) the source of those backup copies on the flash drive. This is the partition which I was just about to backup. I have several hard drives, from 200 GB up to 8 TB, from 20 years old to brand-new; all are WD, except for one which is Seagate. Guess which one failed? I forget when I got it, or why I ever would have got anything but WD, or why I would have put anything important there. I have used ddrescue to try to recover the data, as well as other forensics tools. Recovered images (img and iso) are saved, and taking up space, but I cannot determine if there is any useful content in what was recovered. The failing partition has not been deleted. It cannot be read or mounted, so I have just left it like that, so that I can try to save it. Every attempt to recover the data gives the same result: 2 errors, 3072 B, that cannot be read. I tried using tools to look inside the saved iso image, but no luck there. I don't want to erase or format the failing disk partition until I am sure that I have recovered the data. My last hope is that I have another 1.5 TB hard drive; I could try to write the disk images to that partition before I format the old drive. But first, of course, I would need to backup materials from that drive, and now I am running out of space again. Bill P.S. And if things were not bad enough, the skies here in San Francisco are a muddy mixture of orange, black, brown and gray. At noon today, it looked like the middle of the night.

Wicd and the Kernel
by BorgLabs - Kate Draven 08 Sep '20

Hi humans, AIs and others. I would like everyone who has had problems with wicd to try the following. Boot to kernel 4.19.124. See if it works. If it doesn't, copy the content of wicd-1.7.4-6 to root (as root). Don't just reinstall. Then try again. Let me know what happens. Those who fail to comply, well, I have dolls... apologies for the mess!
by William Morder 08 Sep '20

08 Sep '20

I have received word from on high that I, too, was doing it wrong. My apologies for the 293 comments (and probably more, still counting) generated by my mistake. It seems that when we hit reply, then change the header, we are causing confusion in the mailing list. And for those who use threaded messages, it causes multiple threads, or something like that. It seems that there might have been a chain of these events, as I noticed email addresses for both Gene and Nik in the headers. But anyway, I didn't mean to spam the list; weird technical glitches on this side, sent emails were getting rejected for "unknown transport" (which turns out to be, my identity, or one of them). I've been doing it the same for a few years, since I've had this email address. Why now? When I "corrected" my "transport" to my real name, everything worked, but suddenly all those rejected emails sitting in my outbox also got sent, too. My intention was not to make a mess of things, but there it is. I make the mistakes, so you don't have to; I create confusion, so you can see the results of not following good protocol. So the short version is: only hit reply if you intend to keep the topic within the thread. If we go off-topic, then we ought to create a brand-new email, not just hit replay; otherwise, we drag email addresses and related threads upon threads in, and we end up with 293 comments (I hear, but haven't seen them myself). Again, apologies to everybody! And I hope that I've set up this one correctly. Bill jabber/xmpp dr_mojo_contendo(a)hot-chilli.net

This indicates that in this repository you will get TDE series R14.0.x as new updates will be released in this series - for supported distributions you will currently get R14.0.8. Cheers -- Slávek

installation instruction: what is the latest release?
by Uwe Brauer 07 Sep '20

07 Sep '20

Hi The installation instructions in https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Ubuntu_Trinity_Repository_Installation_Inst… Are quite good, but it is not clear what is the most recent version? The instructions read deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-r14.0.x <your-distribution> main deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.x <your-distribution> main deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-r14.0.x <your-distribution> main deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.x <your-distribution> main So for Ubuntu it would be 20.04. But what is the x in r14.0.x there is no link to clarify this. BTW, should I use that one or the preliminary stable one # Trinity preliminary stable builds deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-sb <your-distribution> deps-r14 main-r14 deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/deb/trinity-sb <your-distribution> deps-r14 main-r14 Regards Uwe Brauer --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: trinity-users-unsubscribe(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net For additional commands, e-mail: trinity-users-help(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net Read list messages on the web archive: http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/ Please remember not to top-post: http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net/mailing_lists/#top-posting

Resulting in (snipped so it'd fit on one line): deb http://m...ity-r14.0.x focal main Someone who does Ubuntu, would you add a completed example to the 'Configure the package manager' section on that page? Us ignorant users would appreciate it ;) Best, Michael

TDE-mailing_list-TEMPLATE - testing-002

Just giving the new TDE mailing list template a test run. See attachment for how I have set up headers. If you want to keep your email private, and "reply to" the TDE list instead of your personal email, I believe I have got it right here. Included as a special bonus is one of my jabber/xmpp accounts, for when one of our conversations goes WAY off-topic. Bill jabber/xmpp dr_mojo_contendo(a)hot-chilli.net

Touch screen suddenly stopped working
by BorgLabs - Kate Draven 05 Sep '20

Ok so, see subject. I'm guessing there might be a hotkey control but I haven't been able to find anything on the web about it. Just the one to shut off the touchpad. Maybe someone else might have better luck searching for a clue. It was working, and very well I might add but it stopped. I did reboot so I'm going to check the startups see if anything of interest shows up there. Why is Michael such an enthusiastic about MX?
by Michael 05 Sep '20

05 Sep '20

tl:dr MX works extremely well, is able to ‘one click’ install TDE, and saves me an incredible amount of time. [1] William Morder asked: > > By the way, Michael, I believe that AntiX is based on MX Linux. I forget > the exact relationship, but that's how I discovered the MX repositories. > > Since you are so enthusiastic about MX Linux with TDE, I wondered if you > knew anything about AntiX, or were more up-to-date on its status, or had an > opinion about it Long story very short… (and probably not entirely accurate) antiX [2] and MEPIS basically combined? to create MX. I don’t know if MEPIS is still around, obviously antiX is ;) - antiX is a very lightweight distribution (works well on very old hardware) - MX is a middleweight (it also has an advanced hardware kernel option) - - {Kate? Maybe try the MX ahs kernel for that touchscreen?} Dolphin Oracle is the lead dev for both distributions. There are ~20+ devs for MX (they all may be active on antiX, but I don’t know that), and based on their forum activity I’m somewhat guessing that many of the MX devs are basically ‘full time’ employed by MX. Truthfully I’d love for TDE to be rolled into the MX group, it seems like such a win-win for both organizations. Why am I such an enthusiastic about MX? - With one click (MX Package Installer): - - Full LAMP stack is installed - - Install LibreOffice, Opera, Wine, VirtualBox, 6 other DEs, 2 Windows Managers, 2 Docks, Skype, Zoom, Kodi, Plex, Handbrake, Spotify, Play on Linux, Steam, 6 other Kernels, 5+ VPNs, 3 Screencasts, … [5] - NVIDIA proprietary drivers works ‘out of the box’ - MX also saved me 50 to 200 hours of customization rebuild over six months by having a ‘preserve /home’ option that works with existing disk encryption. [3] - Their MX Package Installer is completely customizable - - Which allowed me to create an auto-installer for TDE [4] - The MX Tools set is stellar and actually works... - Doesn’t use systemd - The MX forum answers your questions (accurately! and usually the same day) I’ll stop here, put the pom-poms down, and close with: If you want a distribution that runs TDE to ‘just work,’ go with MX. Best, Michael [1] https://mxlinux.org/ [2] https://antixlinux.com/ [3] https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=92&t=59308&p=587358#p588697 [4] https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/MX_Linux_Trinity_Repository_Installation_In… [5] There are 380 *.pm files in their packageinstaller-pkglist directory, best guess is that translates to 380 unique applications that they have already customized the install process of so the end user gets a full ‘working’ application.

Which of the Trinity Live disks would be best to install for a new ex-windoze user?
by J Leslie Turriff 05 Sep '20

05 Sep '20

My brother, a long-time windoze user, suggested to me last night that he might give Linux a try. Looking at the Trinity website, I see a plethora of Live Disk images for various distros available; but which one is most likely to give him a stable and versatile experience? He is already somewhat skeptical, having seen my occasional struggles with multimedia issues on my OpenSuSE machine*. (This opportunity will also give me some exposure to Debian-based distros, a probable plus.) Leslie * (OpenSuSE does not seem to think that multimedia is important, and its support is somewhat sketchy compared with home-computer oriented distros). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: trinity-users-unsubscribe(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net For additional commands, e-mail: trinity-users-help(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net Read list messages on the web archive: http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/ Please remember not to top-post: http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net/mailing_lists/#top-posting

Ok so... I was hitting me little Alistair Izzard voodoo doll with a 4.5k, deadblow, sledgehammer, as one does. Suddenly the touchscreen on the flex 4 started working. Voodoo and a sturdy DB sledgehammer always seems to do the trick. I'm going to make a orangeman doll now. ;) Thanks Ali, I think it was some of the recent updates to wacom stuff that did it. Well, let's say it was (I know it was the doll and hammer). Kate The Great and Terrible. PS, though it was "native" to win10 the touchscreen never worked with it. I was able to get it to work with several linux distros but they seemed to have update or beta wacom stuff. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: trinity-users-unsubscribe(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net For additional commands, e-mail: trinity-users-help(a)lists.pearsoncomputing.net Read list messages on the web archive: http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/ Please remember not to top-post: http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net/mailing_lists/#top-posting

kmilo problem
by Dr. Nikolaus Klepp 03 Sep '20

03 Sep '20

Hi all! Now it'me having an issue :) I use kmilo for the volume control on my thinkpads. But no matter what increment value I set in tdecontrol, the volume changes +- 10%. kmilodrc has "volumeStep=1" - but that value is ignored. Is there some other setting hidden somewhere for non-thinkpads that might interfer with kmilo? So my friends, are you willing to spend ~$25 / year? No? Hit delete now... Yes? Then why put up with Google’s or any other web mail provider’s crap? Get a VPS: [1][2] $15-$20 / year Buy a domain: $8.56 / year (.com) $5.28 / year (.com.de) $4.28 / year (.top) $2.68 / year (.loan) * $2.68 / year (.men) * $2.68 / year (.party) * $2.68 / year (.stream) * $1.28 / year (.cyou) * * lol, make sure to buy 20 years upfront! !? There is no .woman? How sexist! Mail setup: Search Fu / Server Fault Use any Linux distribution you want, just make sure to add a root conrtab to auto-update nightly. As desired, I can share the bash script I use to setup an SSH tunnel to check mail with end to end encryption along with the KMail settings to support it. An Entertaining Tale of Woe (and voodoo dolls)
by BorgLabs - Kate Draven 02 Sep '20

02 Sep '20

One is never to old to learn... Or screw up. Ok so I'm still playing about with the Ideapad Flex 4. I reinstalled Ali's Big Daddy PCLOS distro and all the billions of packages I usually install. Then me own home built apps and scripts for multimedia stuff. Everything works, except the webcam, mic and touchscreen. The touchscreen is not hi on me list so I let it go for another day. The cam and mic, however, I need to help guide me crakmonkeys through whatever itblows nightmare they're on at the moment. This is, of course, the problem is the mic and webcam. Then it's the phone... Well, no matter what I did, I couldn't get either to work. I net searched, I load and unloaded mods, but nothing. I had sound, so why not the mic. Eventually I gave up. Annoyed by this, I went and got the Ali voodoo doll I made. I was about to poke it's wee head with a large pin when I noticed the camera button on the keyboard. "Hmm" I thought and press func and the cam button. Well silly me, it was off, as was the mic. I stabbed voodoo Ali anyway, but only once and put him away. The lesson here is to familiarize oneself with the machine and check the on off switches. Login to your gmail via firefox or cliqz, stay there. Then try kmail again. Remember keep your web login active whilst using kmai. You may also want to check "allow 'lessor" devices" whatever it's called, in gmail settings. It's second tier authentication crappola they have. [trinity-users] questions about upgrade to Beowulf/Buster - correction
by William Morder via trinity-users 01 Sep '20

01 Sep '20

Okay guys, so I am stumped and confuzzled. I just did an upgrade to Devuan Beowulf (= Debian Buster), and everything went fine; except once up and running, I couldn't download more than a few of Trinity's packages. After trying different repositories, and playing with my sources list, I managed to do just a bit better, then I saved the day with some extreme voodoo using about config [*I meant to say, apt-get* ... writing on auto-pilot] (scrolling through the manpages to find something that work). I ended up getting enough the Trinity packages to download by using --ignore-hold and dselect-upgrade options. I even searched out the links to deb packages on the developers' repositories, and downloaded them with wget, so that I could try forcing install using dpkg. Now at least (at last) I do have a working system which is a reasonable facsimile of my previous one, but it does seem like it ought to have been easier. For about the past three days now, I've lived in the command-line. Also I would like recommendations for a firewall that displays active connections and rules, etc., like the old Firestarter used to do. I catch all kinds of problems by noticing activity on my firewall, but now I cannot seem to find one that displays active connections, and Firestarter can no longer be hacked to make it work on a newer system. Project status report - summary
by Slávek Banko 31 Aug '20

31 Aug '20

Hi all, in the previous e-mail, we made a trip into the history of the project. Now it's time for summary information about the current state of the project infrastructure. Note: For topics we need to discuss together you can wait for a subsequent e-mail with the Tasks chapter. However, it is useful for you to have an overview of the intrastructure of the project. -- Summary -- The project infrastructure currently consists of the following parts: 1. Tim's original infrastructure. This is maintained and donated by Tim. The problem here is that only Tim can manage it and as we know, it is very difficult to get hold of Tim. Here are still some services that will either be migrated to the new TDE box donated by Integricloud or will need to be abandoned. Example of that are bugzilla and mailing lists. We will discuss these services subsequently. 2. TDE box donated by Integricloud. This is a powerful machine on Power9 architecture, which is physically located in the Integricloud hosting center. Integricloud provides its operation as a donation for us. We have full remote access to this box and all its services. Thanks to this, there are more administrators who can do maintenance. Services from Tim's infrastructure are gradually being migrated to this box. The main site, wiki, cgit has already been migrated and the original SCM has been replaced by a second instance of gitea that sync with the main TGW on vpsFree. 3. TDE VPS donated by vpsFree.org. Here we do not have a complete physical machine, but one virtual machine. It is located in the hosting center used by vspFree.org, which provides its operation as a donation to us. We have full remote access to this vps. Thanks to this, there are more administrators who can do maintenance. Initially, the main redirector was located here. Then the cache for packages was added to optimize the publishing of new releases. Subsequently, new services that were not on Tim's original infrastructure were set up on this vps - TGW and TWTW. These services currently provide the backbone of project development. 4. Slavek's home server and builders. This infrastructure is maintained and provided by Slávek. Currently, the problem is that only Slávek can manage these machines. However, for now, this does not seem to be a major problem. Services are available, packages are built and Slávek can usually be contacted well. The primary archive is located here. And several builders that are used to build deb packages. These builders are virtual machines located on various physical machines, where the unused power of these physical machines is provided for building packages. For example, the builder for ppc64el packages is located on the TDE box from Integricloud. There is a plan to move the primary archive to a separate virtual machine and builders to a separate vpn network, where it will be possible to provide access to more administrators. 5. Mike's primary mirror and other mirrors. Mike manages and donates the primary mirror, which is used to synchronize packages from the primary archive. Additional mirrors are synchronized from this primary mirror. These mirrors are maintained and donated by their owners. 6. François repository of RPM packages. In addition to deb packages, there is François, who creates, builds and provides repositories for RPM packages. These RPM packages are regularly synchronized from the source maintained and donated by François to the primary archive and cache on the primary redirector. Well, now you have an overview of what infrastructure ensures that the project can exist and grow. You can look forward to a subsequent e-mail regarding the tasks we need to discuss and solve... stay tuned. Cheers -- Slávek

[trinity-users] Removable Media options
by J Leslie Turriff 31 Aug '20

Is there an option in the Removable Media tool to open a new tab in Konqueror (instead of Open in New Window)? I don't recognize it if it's there. Alternatively, is there a way to Add such an option? Perhaps some sort of dcop message to Konqueror to open a tab?
