gtk-qt-engine-kde3 does not work

Hi all, sorry, it's me again for another problem. though I installed gtk-qt-engine-kde3 and configured it with kcontrol to be used for gtk2 applications, nothing happens, all my gtk2 apps still have the default gtk2 look. Anyone knows where the problem might come from ? Thanks in advance, Denis

9.10 with kde3

getting a issue when trying to install kde 3 on 9.10. (fresh install 9.10 with gnome) added the repos listed for 9.04 get errors when trying to install the kubuntu-desktop-kde3 package ******************************************** Reading state information... ttf-bitstream-vera not in karmic anymore

I don't know whether this is known bug. It is the first thing I come across when installing KDE3, so I can imagine it is. kubuntu-desktop-kde3 depends on ttf-bitstream-vera but it's not available anymore in karmic as you can see here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/nl/jaunty/ttf-bitstream-vera Here is a patch: http://haar.student.utwente.nl/~julius/patches/no_ttf-bitstream-vera.patch I just removed the package from the dependencies. This allows me to install everything, but somehow also brings in some KDE4 packages on my system. Another option would be to add this package to the KDE3 repository.

Bugzilla doesn't work & kdm bug

Hi, I tried to sign up for bugzilla at http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/ to report a bug, but this doesn't work anymore. I mailed kb9vqf(a)pearsoncomputing.net but didn't get a reply. I noticed mail from this address on the list, so I hope it's picked up here ;) The bug I want to report is that although kdm-kde3 installs /etc/pam.d/kdm-kde3 and /etc/pam.d/kdm-np-kde3 The installed kdm actually uses /etc/pam.d/kdm and /etc/pam.d/kdm-np Which are from the kdm (KDE4) package. When purging the kdm package, this will break passwordless and auto logins and sessions will use incorrect language settings with kdm-kde3. There are probably a few more issues, but LANG not getting set properly was the most noticable for me. I hope this bug can be fixed. Thanks in advance, Julius

What's missing in KDE 4: let's file some bugs

The day when KDE 3 will no longer be viable is getting closer every day. Please tell me what problems you are having with KDE 4 so that we can get them fixed. KDE 3 is great because it is mature, configurable, and feature-laden without being bloated. I do not want to see that go to waste! It is the KDE 3 holdouts who have the attention to detail to distinguish the "little things" that make KDE 3 so great that are currently lacking in KDE 4. Note that KDE 4.3 really solves most of the issues for me and most other people that I deal with. In fact, the features is adds over KDE 3 were enough to get me to switch. So please try KDE 4.3 and _let_me_know_ what does not work for you so that we can file bugs. I want to know about missing features, unintuitiveness, bugs, regressions, anything. You _will_ need to relearn some minor things as KDE 4 is a rewrite of KDE, not a Qt4 port of KDE 3, however let's get the major issues fixed. Thanks. KDE really needs the picky, stubborn KDE 3 users to push the devs (who might not have the same attention to detail as us) in the right direction. LTSP kde3 and kde4 - kde3 starts kicker and plasma comes too!

Dear All, Thanks for making KDE3 available for Kubuntu users. I have been running an LTSP network with KDE3 for several happy users. Anyway as I was restricted to running Hardy I have taken the plunge and now have Jaunty with KDE3 and KDE installed. (I have decided 4.3 is OK for me) So I have the LTSP terminals working OK. But when I boot them into KDE3 Plasma starts too, as well as a number of duplicated KDE 4 services (or because of probably). I added: export KDEDIRS=/opt/kde3/:/usr/ export XDG_DATA_DIRS=/opt/kde3/share/:/usr/share/ to /opt/kde3/bin/startkde but that makes no difference. KDE4 performance is poor on LTSP so I can't migrate the users. I call kill off the KDE4 processes and will train users to do this. Any ideas how I can stop KDE4 processes starting? Where are they being started from? Has anyone been successful integrating openoffice 3.1 with kde? I recently installl openoffice 3.1 from the following ppa: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main It installs without error but is missing the kde integration. Besides looking terrible it does not support the Konqueror integration when using the open/save dialogs --Will Esselink School District 33 Chilliwack, BC Canada

KDE3.5 and Kvirc

Please add Kvirc to your KDE3 distribution. Other distros such as Alt Linux and SuSE include Qt3-based Kvirc into their KDE3 distributions. Otherwise it is impossible to run it.

Local printers not supported

I'm trying to help my Dad with a problem. He's using KDE 3.5.x and his USB printer stopped working. He can see the printer with "lsusb" so it would appear that USB works, but when he tries to add the printer with the KDE Add Printer Wizard, the choice "Local printer (parallel, serial, USB)" is deactivated. He can't press the radio button to enable it. The other radio buttons are all active except for "Serial Fax/Modem printer". What can deactivate that button. It happens on both his and my Mom's systems, but they are running the same software, so that doesn't narrow things down, much. My machine is running the same software, too, and it is enabled for me. I can't figure out what he could be missing to turn off local printer support. His OS is Ubuntu Jaunty with the semi-official KDE 3.5 installed. Thanks, Michael
