No image thumbnails when accessing USB device via popup after plugging in

Hello everyone, when I plug in an USB storage device containing images like an SD card reader, Konqueror doesn't show thumbnails (previews) of image files on that device if I open it via the automatic popup window that is displayed after plugging in the device. There seem to be 3 distinct ways to reach the USB storage ("/dev/sdb1/" in this example) in Konqueror: 1. "system:/media/sdb1" - reached when plugging in an USB device and choosing "Open in New Window" from the popup - (popup configured via "Peripherals" > "Storage Media" in the control center) - image thumbnails do not work! 2. "media:/sdb1" - using the menu "Go" > "Storage Media" in Konqueror - image thumbnails work 3. "/media/<user>/<label>/" - actual path for the internal mountpoint, needs to be manually navigated to - image thumbnails work Number 1 is the problematic one and is the path Konqueror opens from the automatic storage media popup. I always have to resort to manually navigating to one of the other 2 paths in order to get image thumbnails to work, rendering the convenience of the automatic popup useless in cases where images are involved. Spell checking issue

Confused I am. Some of that is probably of my own making. I know I have a mis-spelled word in "a" spellchecker. And, it appears I have both 'standard' spell checkers in play: both `ispell` and `aspell`. `kwrite` seems to be using ispell `nano` seems to be using aspell Well, I've noticed that the spell checker in kwrite is happy with the spelling "everyting". nano is unhappy with the spelling "everyting", as it should be. The only user spellchecker files I can find in $HOME/ are: .aspell.en.pws .aspell.en.prepl There are no .ispell* files in $HOME/ There's no "everyting" in .aspell.en.pws - as confirmed by nano. I can find no other user file in $HOME/ that seems to be related to any spellchecker. But I know I've added 'words' in kwrite -- especially often-used acronyms, Two questions: Where is the user file for ispell's user added words? Can someone point me to a decent HOW-TO to set my system (Ubuntu) to use just _one_ of the spell checkers? Maybe I could clear up my multiple spell checker confusion. Well, I guess I have a third query: Could someone that uses ispell confirm whether or not "everyting" is in ispell's global dictionary? TDE display control messes up colors on RPi with full KMS driver

Hello everyone, I'm running TDE R14.0.12 on Debian 11 (bullseye) using a Raspberry Pi 2B. With the Debian 11 (bullseye) release of the Raspberry Pi OS, the RPi offers 2 display drivers: "vc4-kms-v3d" (full KMS) and "vc4-fkms-v3d" (fake KMS). Till Debian 10 the fake one was default, now it is the full KMS and the fake KMS driver is supposed to be no longer actively supported (though it can still be switched to). The new default driver (full KMS) poses new issues with the display handling of TDE in terms of color (or gamma) management. As soon as TDE's display management is used, the colors get all weird like the whole screen gets rainbow-colored with very low color depth. Here's a photo I took (it doesn't show up on screenshots): https://i.imgur.com/DIaIP9m.jpeg - using xrandr or TDERandRTray to switch resolutions is fine - using the Trinity control center's "System Administration" > "Monitor & Display" > "Enable global display control" will make colors go crazy as shown in the photo - moving the "Hardware Gamma Control" sliders in the control center will alter the shades of rainbow colors but never fixes the general color distortion - using "xrandr --output HDMI-1 --gamma 1:1:1" will fix colors until reboot - when global display control is enabled, this is persistent and colors will go crazy as soon as TDM starts after bootup I'd like to keep the new (full KMS) driver since the old fkms one always had other issues were KMix's audio volumes would scale between -350% and -400% (yes, negative values) while alsamixer being at 50%, effectively preventing any working volume control in TDE since sliders start at 0. This is fixed with the full KMS driver as it handles the audio devices differently. However, with the new driver I can't make permanent adjustments to screen resolutions with TDE (only temporary with RandR) as I encounter the color bug as described above. Is there anything I can do about it? Should I file a bug somewhere? Best regards, Leskala

Is TDE capable of communicating with apps like Firefox?

Hello, the default file manager for TDE is Konqueror, also Dolphin is available in the repos, is either of them capable of communicating with modern versions of Firefox to do things such as opening folders and selecting (highlight) the downloaded files? Also, as I remember when I used TDE about a year ago, once a foreign file manager is installed (say Caja or pcmanfm) Firefox automatically starts using them to show downloaded files and forgets completely about Konqueror and Dolphin, I know that it's known bug in Firefox, but is there a tested work-around to fix that? Can a TDE user force Firefox to use Konqueror or Dolphin to open files? So my msg contains two questions: 1) Can Firefox communicate with Konqueror or Dolphin to show/highlight my downloaded files and to access my folders? 2) Can I force Firefox to use Konqueror (or Dolphin) as my prefered file manager?

bad mouse pointer

Using 14.0.13~pre8 on both Bullseye & Bookworm amd64 on old 945G intel graphics using modesetting DIX. I couldn't get the Intel DDX driver to load instead. Mouse pointer at TDM login greeter and in IceWM, LXDE, XFCE & TDM sessions are always the activity spinner. Strings put and ouse in .xsession-errors are absent. Wallpaper alignment behavior of Konqueror and KDesktop

Hello everyone, I have 2 issues with the wallpaper setting behavior of Konqueror and KDesktop respectively and possible improvement ideas which I'd like to discuss. 1. Konqueror set-as-wallpaper actions Konqueror offers set-as-wallpaper actions in the right-click menu of images under the "Actions" > "Set as Background" submenu. There are 2 actions in the "Set as Background" category: "Centered" and "Tiled". "Tiled" actually does what its name suggests. However, the "Centered" action does actually lead to "Scaled" in the desktop's wallpaper setting, squishing the image to fit the screen, ignoring the aspect ratio. "Centered" is available in the KDesktop configuration (as in "Configure Desktop..." in the desktop's context menu) but is not correctly triggered by this action. So I guess this is actually a bug: the "Centered" option of "Set as Background" in Konqueror's actions leads to "Scaled" not "Centered" in KDesktop. Also, one could consider replacing "Centered" in Konqueror's wallpaper actions by "Scale & Crop" entirely (see below). (By the way, is there a way to modify those actions via config files or are they part of Konqueror's source code?) 2. KDesktop's default wallpaper alignment setting "Scaled" is a poor choice When changing the wallpaper directly in KDesktops configuration dialog (reached via "Configure Desktop..." in the desktop's context menu), upon selecting a new image, the "Position" setting will revert to "Scaled". This is not necessarily a bug, as KDesktop might just have "Scaled" hardcoded as its default and always reverts to it. However, I think "Scaled" is a poor choice for a default by modern standards since it ignores the image's aspect ratio and squishes any image that doesn't perfectly match the current display's aspect ratio. In my opinion, "Scale & Crop" is a much more sensible option and is the default behavior of most modern desktop environments nowadays, as it doesn't squish any images. I think KDesktop should remember the previous "Position" setting when changing the wallpaper file in its dialog and/or the default should be changed to "Scale & Crop", which would fit most situations just fine. This usually means the answer is simple so I miss it. I'm trying to build QTemu from latest source and I get the above error. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Missing a package? etc etc etc... To overcome the problem I need this one-line udev rule to make all "invisible" aka disks only seen in system:/media/ to be seen by the tde aoutomounter again: # /etc/udev/rules.d/99-disk.rules ENV{ID_TYPE}="disk", ENV{UDISKS_AUTO}="1", ENV{UDISKS_SYSTEM}="0", ENV{UDISKS_SYSTEM_INTERNAL}="0" So, no more matching of specific vendor names etc. Nik -- Please do not email me anything that you are not comfortable also sharing with the NSA, CIA ...

Okay, this may or may not be off-topic, don't have a clue whether it was really a TDE problem, or a system issue, or that another desktop (xfce) was interfering with Trinity. Or it could be my own dumb blind luck that things seem normal again. [fingers crossed] The original thread, for anybody who wishes to be reminded, followed from this heading:"video sound not working", started on 6 May 2022. The thing is, I don't think that I did anything which ought to have affected EVERYTHING in this manner. The story is longer than I tell here, but I will give what I guess to be the main points. I got a couple new audio mixing and recording toys in the past few months. I have had a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 audio interface maybe two months ago, and played round with that. Typically, when I have clicked to monitor my instrument sound, no other sound will work simultaneously with my system. Either I choose to listen to my instrument play through the speakers (or through the Scarlett interface using headphones), or I can listen to online radio (using qmmp), or I can listen to my music files (using audacious), or I can watch a video (for which I was using vlc). I could not play music on audacious, for example, and play along on my instrument through the Scarlett interface. If anybody recalls, the sound on smplayer had stopped working for me altogether, and nothing seemed to change it. (All other video programs, except kaffeine-trinity, also stopped playing sound.) Now I have got two new items for the family: (1) a Vox MV50 AC 50-watt Hybrid Tube Head (which I generally use as a pre-amp), running through a 50w Cube Street EX amp; and (2) a Vox StompLab IIG Modeling Effects Pedal, which I put in front of the pre-amp, so that I can get a range of effects, mainly old-school tube-amp type effects. (The pre-amp is actually a mini-tube amp, for anybody who cares, and who wants to do something similar. It is a 50w mini-amp, which can be used directly with headphones or for recording, or can be used as a pre-amp; or, if I play out in a club, can be plugged directly into the house sound system, or into the sound board, so that they don't have to bother round with trying to mike my amp. Saves a lot of bother, and instead of lugging round a big amp, this is about the h/w dimensions of the average smartphone nowadays, only 2x or 3x the thickness, or depth.) I played round with these things last night, but didn't make any changes to my system while doing it. Later that night, I returned to vlc, which I haven't touched for a couple weeks because it started giving me problems. At first, it would not stay on top of the display, then it wouldn't load at all. And as for smplayer, it hasn't worked at all, and I haven't touched it since that thread mentioned above. Sound was working for vlc, but for none of my other video programs; like smplayer, they would play only video, if they played at all, but no sound. Now vlc wasn't working, and that wouldn't do. So I went into my settings, nothing seemed different, then I got into my config files, specifically in /home/<USER>/.config/vlc. It looked like last changes were recent, though I didn't recall making changes. So I renamed this vlc config folder, saved it, and then replaced it with an older copy of the same that I had saved from my previous system (my old desktop, which is now in storage). Simple as that, presto! everything works. Not only does vlc work, sound and all, but so does smplayer and other video players. Moreover, my Scarlett audio interface, which before would take over the sound system, now will play nicely along side other audio and video programs, though I can't figure out why. This makes it nice for playing music on, say, audacious, or online radio on qmmp, or even to play music videos, and then using the Scarlett interface either to play over headphones or to play over my amp, so that I can play along with the music, whatever randomly comes up, in my practice. Apologies for length, but I wanted to be sure to include all the details, just in case. The salient points are: I added new devices, but these shouldn't have affected my sound system, as nothing was changed. I replaced the config folder for vlc, and I could see how that ought to make a difference for vlc; but now smplayer also works just fine, though nothing was changed. And last, I can play different audio programs (or the sound on video programs) simultaneously, if I wish, while using my recording hardware. None of this makes sense to me. I am glad it's working, but sometimes I also like to know why, rather than thanking the Goddess and crossing my fingers in hopes that the same problems don't return. Anybody have a clue what happened, and why? Bill

Registering Twin?

Hello everyone :-), Naive question, but how can I register TWin? I have openSUSE Leap 15.3 with default XFCE installed. Now I installed TWin (from Trinity repo), all good, but when I logout from XFCE and try to select another window manager I only see XFCE and IceWM as WM options. Nothing more.
