Dcopserver not loading

Very soon after I started to use the TDE 14.0.11 version I began receiving DCOP error messages, having the effect of preventing use of various applications like Firefox and LibreOffice. After online research and experimentation on my part I discovered that I could solve such preventions if before opening TDE I ran in a tty as root the following three commands: 'dcopserver -- serverid', which returned nothing, then 'dropserver' and finally again 'dcopserver -- serverid'. This time however that command returned something like the following: '[dcopserver] local/Morcom:/tmp/.ICE-unix/dcop5698-1636014592' >From this point on there were no longer any more DCOP error messages. I had full use of the TDE and various applications until when I next closed completely the computer. It is consequently my understanding that running the 'dcopserver' command is presumably required as part of the initial boot-up. If such is usually the case I would appreciate knowing what I need to do to have my computer, named Morcom, do so as well. Can anyone tell me? Hi, I am wondering, is Kontact the same thing as KMAIL? If so, I would rather have a newer version of KMAIL that comes with the Kontact flatpak than the version that comes with TDE. Chris

TDE Control Center is replacing utf8 characters in ~/.bashrc with trash

Hi all, I found that TCC does overwrite ~/.bashrc. From my level of proficiency that is a no-go and should not happen at all, especially not without informing the user. What happens: All utf8 characters in .bashrc get replaced with strange characters when GTK2 Fonts are changed from the TCC GUI. Reproduce: I can reproduce this behaviour on my system by simply changing the configuration in TCC -> Appearance and Themes -> GTK Style and Fonts -> GTK2 Fonts: from "Use my TDE fonts" to "Use another font" or the other way around. POP!OS and bug reporting

hi there. I tried reporting a bug but was told: "Username or password is incorrect." Keen to proceed, I clicked on the password reset button and dutifully entered my email address. Then the web page stated that an email would be sent to me within 3 hours. That was days ago. By the way the bug was that installing TDE on POP!OS renders the installation unbootable, possibly something about POP!OS using systemd-boot. Thoughts? Chromium and Chrome-google unmanageable

Hello, Since migration to Debian 11, I cannot use Chromium and Chrome-google, they are unmanageable, graphics problems (maybe coming from Xfree ?) Never had this before with previous Debian distributions. Thanks for a explanation, Cheers, André

default directories names mangled

As I was reading in a thread "File Manager" about the standard XDG folders. I was wondering where I can file a bug. The bug is that on my desktop where I have installed KDE in 2002 I have the XDGs dirs properly displayed and in TCC they show up fine On a newly installed TDE (14.1) I have mangled characters and if I open TCC change something and press "Apply" it creates directories with ??????? From my experience the first one is double converted and the second one is in ASCII If I delete the directories in Konqueror they are recreated with mangled immediately. So who I see actually two bugs here - the one in TCC and the other in konqueror Can someone advise?

Permanent task locations?

In the task bar you can move tasks’ positions forwards and back (Only if they are single items.). Is there anyway to set a permanent location for them? I’d like KMail to always be in position 1, and Konsole in position 2, Kwrite in 3, ... Currently if KMail gets closed and re-started then I have to [close all additional open messages and] move it back to the beginning of the task bar [and then re-open all the messages I just closed]. Just a irreverent wish... Best, Michael

I rebooted, and took step by step photos of how I installed Debian. ( PS that email is stuck in moderation due to its size) Rebooted logged back in and nothing would open like the CHRIS folder or the trash can. I had earlier today ( a couple hours ago ) sat Thunar as my default file manager, and everything was working GREAT! I switched everything back to Konq but now I am getting " DCOP ERRORS" every time I click on anything. The only thing that doesn't throw up an error is Firefox ESR. I am trying to decide now, do I want to give TDE another shot, or go back to LXDE? I am in the process of salvaging my data and backing it up to nextcloud now. Chris
