Did you try the i915 driver? https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Intel suggests that's the appropriate one for Atom D4xx/D5xx CPUs. (You may need mesa-amber to make proper use of that driver, though.)
I did, but it crashes at least on my hp mini. In the end it depends on your specific hardware: some work with i915, some don't (hp mini). For some you need to disable hardware acceleration (X61), sometimes not (T60/T61). From what I have seen anything 2009 and newer works as intended with driver autoconfig, but then again mesa has dropped some stuff for old ATI GPUs that renders graphics useless (vmware/virtualbox) or does not affect it at all (qemu). IMO the hardware of that periode was created in quite a rush so you never know what you need befor you try :)
