FWIW I am using TDE on Debian 13. Personally, I would not change my distro just to try a different desktop. In general you can install multiple desktops and choose which you want to use when you login, although I do not do that myself.

Instead of 'sudo zypper dup' (dup = dist-upgrade), use 'sudo zypper up' (up = update).
