I'm afraid to nuke my system to install TDE, because I tried installing openSuse in a VM, and when running the commands to install TDE, they all errored out.
So I guess I will just wait it out, until everything is fully functional again.

I'm pretty sure a lot more people use TDE in Debian and derivatives than in OpenSuse. You have stated that you have Debian 13. I suspect if you try installing TDE alongside Plasma 6 in your Debian 13 that you would have success, or if you run into problems you would have more people here able to assist you.

I've been monitoring and trying to get a hold of Slavek. I do have server access still but don't want to step on his toes. We need to block some of the AI crawler traffic that is basically doing a DDoS against the TDE sites.

If you look in the devels archive here you will see there is a current obstacle to installing on Tumbleweed because it is a rolling distribution that retires older package versions frequently for newer ones. TDE isn't provided by openSUSE, so TDE's dependencies on openSUSE packages must be updated by TDE's own packagers who operate on their own schedules as time permits, and must know dependencies have expired before they can be expected to do anything about them.
Likewise, Leap 16.0 was only released wednesday, and TDE for it has yet to be published.
Why do you have to nuke anything? Install it along with whatever you have. Give it a try. If you like it, you can then nuke -- or keep! -- whatever you have now. If you don't like it nuke it. Or keep it to retry later. You can have a dozen desktops if you have the drive space.

I don't, but the only place I have both is on test installations. I don't use Plasma on any other basis. KDE3, however, you cannot have at the same time.

I don't know how small your mass storages are, but I usually use 50GB for root and 10 to 15 Gb for /home, other partitions being mounted where I need. So even with a 128GB SSD I could manage to have two installs side by side.
Another use of this setting is that when I am tempted to try a new distribution / version / DE, I just do this beside the one I use. In time I can change GRUB's priority, and later maybe install someting new over the old system.
Nuking a working system is a bad idea, even if you want to use the new system. If something goes wrong or you discover a major flaw in the new install...
Gparted is your firend.
