July aka Summer 2026 Version is out!
Biggest changes:
- TDE 14.2.0-DEVELOPMENT - Xlibre 25.2.0 - new background images - kernel 7.1.3 - all specific tweaks are packaged in darkness-tweaks - i386 crossinstaller with kernel 7.0.14 - rpi crossinstaller
Notes:
- Persistent partition at 3GB when booting the ISO from a USB stick: As long as any future ISO written to the stick is smaller than 3GB the data on the partition is unaffected. - Virtualbox/VMware guest graphics: "modesetting" is used for "VirtualBox GPU". - Laguage: TDE language packs of unused languages are removed when booting from iso, so that translations of missing texts come from english and not from any other language pack - deactivate 3D acceleration on Lenovo X61 / Intel GM965/GL960 - dark theme for OpenSCAD

One tenuously-related question: how has your experience with Xlibre been so far? The reports I've seen have been very polarized, with some indicating that Xlibre is the only way ahead for X in Linux, and others comparing the prime mover and shaker as the devil's right-hand man and the worst programmer this side of Saturn.
What are your thoughts?

From a users perspective it just works. It brought back the framebuffer driver that was removed upstream (besides republishing the numerouse patches that were removes upstream), so you can get X11 work on small devices like a R36 with mali53 where no drivers exist in offical Xorg.
And yes, if you fight for a wayland-only world then you have just seen the devil. I was told that the "market share" beween X11 and wayland is ~ 1:1 whith wayland losing ground.

I don't have such a thing... just some Raspberry Pis and some laptops with AMD cards. But still, that is interesting.

Wayland losing ground? That is interesting (and pleasing) to hear. I keep hearing that Gnome is (or has) dropped X11 support, and that KDE will soon follow. If both of these go to Wayland-only, then they will take a huge percentage of the user base along, whether those people want to go or not. Reading some web forums I see people talking about Wayland as if X is already completely dead and buried. Maybe that is just wishful fanboi thinking from them.
