Hi All,
As most of you know, I donate a mirror to TDE. It costs ~USD100 / year [1].
Mine has ~18 months left, but it’s hard drive isn’t really big enough for
what Slávek wants/needs long term. (It’s also completely overkill in terms
of memory/cpu.)
I recently saw an article about NAT VPSes [2] whose prices are under $10 /
year [3]. These, with some tinkering, can be setup to tunnel traffic to a
home box (which could be running a VM to act as a TDE mirror).
VM’s can be ‘packaged’ such that they are one click imports (at least on
Oracle VirtualBox). That would allow Slávek to be able to create it once and
then any one of us could install it locally.
My graphics skills suckage, but something like:
mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org >
NAT VPS >
Your public IP (from ISP) >
[Your router/NAT/'ISP thingy'] >
Your home server >
VM (on your home server)
I’ve used SSH tunnels for 20+ years, but we’d probably need Slávek or someone
with more knowledge of traffic tunneling than me, to help with the full setup
(as I think iptables is probably a better solution?).
# # #
Okay, why?
1) I think several of us have existing home hardware that has a spare ~2TB,
can run a 1CPU/2GB RAM VM, and runs 24/7 already.
2) At ~$5 per year it’d be a very cheap way for TDE to have multiple mirrors
that have the full space available Slávek wants.
Thoughts?
And a show of hands of people who’d provide a TDE mirror under something like
this?
Best All,
Michael

Current offers are roughly 90/yr for VPSes w/ 48GB RAM, 720GB NVMe, 12 vCPU,
24TB transfer (triennial billing).

Whonix should run on Devuan. Install Oracle VirtualBox [1], then install
Whonix[2].
You will need roughly 4GB free RAM to dedicate to it when it's running.
That’ll get you up and running in less than an hour.
Best,
Michael
PS:
1) Change all four of the Whonix users’ passwords!
2) Change the background of the Gateway to red....

This installs VB on Debian, should be the same (or very similar) package
names.
<install_package_names>
virtualbox
virtualbox-ext-pack
virtualbox-guest-additions-iso
<postinstall> << as root or use sudo
gpasswd -M $(getent group users | cut -d: -f4) vboxusers
[2]
Download and (basically) a one click install.

greets, everybody . . .
this happened once before and i was able somehow to fix it. it has happened
again, and i can't find the recipe to undo it.
through no action on my part, at least no deliberate action, the taskbar
has gone from tiny icons + text to tiny icons only. if i set it for text
only, i get no text and the icons become very dark. if i set it to icons
only, i get icons only. if i set it to icons + text, i get icons only.
was working just fine an hour ago, and i've made no changes to software or
configuration.
any idea how to fix this? it's pretty annoying.
tia.

Hi all!
In case some of you fall into this trap, too: k3b fails to burn cds/dvds with an error message about missing privileges for cdrecord. Reason: wodim needs raised memlock limits. By default they are at 8192, wodim needs a bit more (~128000), so adding this line to /etc/security/limits.conf will do the trick:
* - memlock 128000

Hi all!
Just in case somebody else runs into the same problem (and that sombody might be my future self searching the list archive):
When kmail does not work with TLS/SSL connections and you find in ~/.xsession-errors lines contaning this:
WARNING: TLS_client_method not defined!
WARNING: SSL_CTX_new not defined!
... then make sure "apparmor" is not installed. It tured out that the "apparmor 3.0.6-1" blocks some functions of libssl.so.* from beeing found by kssl.cpp / ltdl.c which results in a non-funtional TSL/SSL connection.

Hi all!
Is there a way to automaticly release sticky keys after e.g. 5 seconds? Reason is that some sticky keys trigger capslock and sometimes a second modifier to behave like it was locked in "pressed"-state. It's quite tricky to find out which key need to be pressed a second time to stop that.

Current version of glibc is 2.35-14pclos2022.x86_64
APT system reports:
glibc is needed by glibc-devel-2.35-14pclos2022.x86_64
linux-userspace-headers is needed by
glibc-devel-2.35-14pclos2022.x86_64
E: Transaction set check failed
Any idea why I'd get this? Also I don't see a "linux-userspace-headers"
package.
All thoughts welcomed. Chocolate will given to the one that helps
resolve the problem (virtual chocolate).

(Looks like some mails didn't make it to the list.)
This is the last version of tdelibs14-trinity that results in kmail beeing able to use pop3 and smtp:
tdelibs14-trinity_4%3a14.1.0~s640-0debian12.0.0+18~a_amd64.deb
All newer versions break. I just tried with tdelibs-trinity_4%3a14.1.0~s642-0debian12.0.0+18~a_all.deb
IMO the OpenSSL update has nothing to do with it, otherwise the older versions should break, not the newer versions.

I've had this issue for quite some time now, but for some reason the
screensavers in TDE do not work. I can preview them and set them, but as soon
as the screensaver starts it shows my wallpaper. I have had this problem on
the two main OSes I use, FreeBSD and Devuan/Debian. Does anyone have the same
problem, or did, and is there a solution? Thanks
Hey, the taskbar icons for minimized windows becomes less opaque, then upon maximizing them the opacity is restored to full, I understand this works as an indicator but now for accessibility reasons I want my icons to be always fully visible to me and always fully opaque. Any help?
