OpenIndiana/OpenSolaris support
by Alec Bloss 04 Nov '18

04 Nov '18

Just curious if Trinity has ever supported OpenSolaris/Solaris 10/OpenIndiana systems, as it doesn't appear to currently. I'm experimenting with OpenIndiana, which *should* be able to run software for OpenSolaris, and was curious if Trinity ever was ported. Thanks in advance!

Kaffeine no Network broadcasting
by Thierry de Coulon 04 Nov '18

04 Nov '18

I have kaffeine on a machine connected to DVB-S. I tried letting it stream the signal overt the local network and it works. I have the same version of kaffeine on another machine, and I can get the TV signal with File -> Network Broadcasting. I've installed kaffeine-trinity on an SBC (Intel based) but there is no "Network Broadcasting" menu... I've installed kaffeine-trinity and kaffeine-gstreamer. Obviously something is missing on the small machine but what? Anyone know what must be installed to get the ability to read network broadcasting? Also, the SBC's distribution is not "pure" Debian, it's Ubilinux, but would that make a change (unfortunately pure Debian crashes on this machine, they patched the kernel).

TDE on FreeBSD: tdelibs fails to build
by Dr. Nikolaus Klepp 19 Oct '18

19 Oct '18

Hi all! I just upgraded my FreeBSD box and ran into this problem when rebuilding tde: dependencies et al. builds fine, tdelibs compiles but after compilation the one test failes: Start 31: tdeio/kmimetypetest 31/40 Test #31: tdeio/kmimetypetest ...............................***Failed So building tdelibs fails. Running kmimetypetest by hand gives this: # ./tdelibs/work/tdelibs-trinity_14.0.5/.build/tdeio/tests/kmimetypetest kmimetypetest: WARNING: Could not find mime type application/octet-stream kmimetypetest: WARNING: No mime types installed. ERROR: icon for file:///root is unknown, expected folder! Running as user gives the same error, just with file:///[user] in the last line. Is this test important or can I just work my way around and everything will turn out nice? Nik -- Please do not email me anything that you are not comfortable also sharing with the NSA, CIA ...

very wide konsole ( > 223 columns) + mouse events (machine: debian stable)
by Ilya Dogolazky 17 Oct '18

17 Oct '18

Hello ! On a wide display my konsole window has more than 223 columns. So all the mouse events (clicks and mouse wheel scrolling) with column coordinate bigger than 223 are getting corrupted. As a result VIM receives wrong mouse event coordinates. This is not a VIM specific problem, because VIM works fine in xterm window on the same machine (with the same settings as usual). I compiled a testing ncurses application from here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47256750 It reports corrupted coordinates if running in xterm with TERM=xterm but it reports right values when running in xterm with TERM=xterm-1006 (exactly as it is intended to work). Alas in konsole this application either reports corrupted coordinates with TERM=xterm or doesn't recognize mouse events at all with TERM=xterm-1006 Maybe someone knows how to get mouse events reported properly ? Cheers, Ilya D.

TDE Gitea Workspace Available!
by Slávek Banko 16 Oct '18

16 Oct '18

The Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the new TDE Gitea Workspace (TGW) collaboration tool. TGW is a Gitea-based, GitHub-style, self-hosted copy of the official source code repositories that is synchronized with the main server on a hourly basis. It offers wider bandwidth and a collaboration workflow that helps achieving the aim of providing: * fast access to the source code, both through Git or web interface * an easy tool for users and external developers to propose code changes and improvements * a quick way for code sharing and collaboration amongst developers * a simple workflow for reviewing, testing and merging code patches TGW has been thought to serve the needs of the following groups: * people who want to have fast anonymous read-only access to the TDE source code * users who intend to report bugs and propose ideas for ehnancement * contributors who intend to submit code changes for inclusion into TDE official source code * developers who want to cooperate on some common functionality or bug fix TDE core developers are already using TGW on a daily basis and they hope more and more users and contributors will join them soon. Read more about TGW and how to use it on the wiki https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/TDE_Gitea_Workspace and access the workspace at https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea . Credits and acknowledgements We thanks all the people that are (or have been) involved in making TDE the great desktop environment that it is. We would like to officially thanks vpsFree.org for kindly providing free hosting space for the TDE Gitea Workspace.

TDE on Armbian
by Thierry de Coulon 12 Oct '18

12 Oct '18

I've got an SBC (not a raspberry) with an ARM processor. I've managed to install Armbian. As it will be running headless but I'd like to take a look at what it has been recording from time to time, kdrc would be perfect. I've done that on a Raspberry (thanks to QOS), but it seems the only TDE for arm is for Raspbian and there are unsatisfied dependancies when I try to install on Armbian. I'll try to see what I can do with vnc, but has anyone made experiences with Armbian? Note: I was able to install KDE 4's krfb on Armbian, but some "smart" developper has decided (for security I imagine) that you have to give the password for kwallet, then create an unattended password everytime - which totaly defeats the use as headless remote access.... Have a good day, Thierry

Kaffeine unattended
by Thierry de Coulon 09 Oct '18

09 Oct '18

I don't know if someone can help me on this one. The goal is as follow: I have an older machine, running Wheezy and TDE 13.2 As it's only used to record satellite-TV I never felt the need to update it and won't do unless necessary. Now what I would like to do is record something in a week, without leaving the computer on for all that time. I can let the computer start at the right time. When starting it loads kaffeine. I've programmed the recording. My problem is this: a) Kaffeine is started by a link in .trinity/Autostart. The programs starts OK but the Recording Schedule is empty. No recording. b) I close kaffeine and start it again. Now the Recording Schedule is there. Is there some magical string to add so that Kaffeine autostarts *AND* loads the Recording schedule? man or --help don't provide anything about recording. Thierry

Liddel's messages, they still end up in spam. So I have to fish them out as well. A friend at google says it happens because their filtering setups, are designed to favour paid adverts and spam tag nonpaying competitors. He guesses E. Liddel, must be similar enough to a nonpaying competitor to be filtered into spam. Honestly I think they have it out for Liddel. Cheers to all Kate PS Whenever I see an email from Felmon, I always think Felonious Monk, and then think of the Monk series. Which only proves, I have a strange mind. No offense Felmon.

Trinity Desktop and IMEs
by Promet 06 Oct '18

06 Oct '18

Hi, I am a CJK user which relies on IMEs (i.e. iBus, fcitx) etc. to type my native language. However, I found that most of the IMEs only work with modern toolkit libraries, like Qt4/5 and GTK 2/3. I tried R14.0.4 and fcitx does not work on it. It seems that unless these IMEs provide libraries to work with Qt3, it is impossible to get IMEs working in TDE. So my question is, are there any workarounds for such a situation?

Hi Guys, Is there something going on with Google (Gmail) and the list mail ? There isn't any list mail shown when I go into my mail account. But I can see my post and John Pisini's reply on line. Thanks John, but I've not had anything to go into the spam or waste bin folders. -- Best Regards: Baron

Hello, Sorry, the recent internet link below is in french. (28/09/2018) I translate a little bit : The Linux system "cloud Azure" of Microsoft represents now 50%, and each month it increases. As I written, Microsoft says that : "they are now a major actor of the opensource..." Even the ex-General Executive of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, who hated Linux, qualified it as a "cancer ", says now that he is a fan of the Linux system. The time has changed... The article : www.zdnet.fr/actualites/c-est-qui-le-patron-sur-microsoft-azure-linux-39874… > "Linux users of all countries, unite you !" : Yes, but we are not numerous enough (in the consumer market), only 3%. The desktops of Linux could be a brake to switch to Linux, (KDE, Mate, Xfce...) but TDE-Trinity desktop is really good and not known enough. Maybe, the desktop of Windows is the only quality of this system. For me : Linux and TDE are perfect, the winning cocktail ! Remains the battle materials (install driver) too complex on Linux. Companies as IBM coud help the Linux community ? (after the disaster of OS/WARP). Regards, André

"My freedoms end, when such freedoms infringe upon another" "Live and Let Live" "To each their own" "Never assume to understand another, instead ask them to teach about themselves." "Never redefine another person's words." There's more but I think I got what counts for this. I choose gnu linux and kde because they worked. Everything else came after. No politics no religion, no nothing. I needed a tool that would actually work and as it turns out, was within me price range.. free. I don't know how this was started. I will blame William of Morder, as I always do, just easiest thing to do. In any case, that's all I have to say. Hope I haven't offended anyone. Kate The Great and Terrible.

Smart card support?
by Jacob Brown 03 Oct '18

I see that TDE supports SmartCards according to https://www.trinitydesktop.org/features.php . I also see some smart card functionality in the source code of some of the files. What I can't find is any documentation on how to use it or set it up or any of the user space applications for it. There are two places where I'm looking for TDE support: Login (TDM) Lock Screen. I currently have TDE installed via the debian packages for it for Debian Stretch. R14.0.5 Can someone point me to the documentation on how to get it work in TDE? Thanks, Jacob

Knode filters?
by J Leslie Turriff 01 Oct '18

01 Oct '18

I'm trying to get Knode to filter out spam entries from the downloads in the comp.lang.tcl newsgroup, but I'm finding the info in the Handbook confusing, and my filters aren't doing anything. My attachments show what I've come up with so far. Does my Spam Filter need to be above All in the list? The handbook doesn't talk about this aspect of the configuration at all. If that's not the problem, what else do I need to look at? Leslie

problem creating a project with tdevelop
by Dr. Nikolaus Klepp 30 Sep '18

Hi all! I am trying to crate a simple TDE application with tdevelop. Automatic code creation works,"./configure" works, but the final "make" fails from tdevelop with this error: ../libtool: line 1300: func_opt_split: command not found libtool: Version mismatch error. This is libtool 2.2.6b Debian-2.2.6b-2ubuntu1, but the libtool: definition of this LT_INIT comes from libtool 2.4.6. libtool: You should recreate aclocal.m4 with macros from libtool 2.2.6b Debian-2.2.6b-2ubuntu1 libtool: and run autoconf again. Libtool on devuan ascii is 2.4.6-2, so where does that come from .. and how to solve it? Nik -- Please do not email me anything that you are not comfortable also sharing with the NSA, CIA ...

Confusing Toolbar Icons in Kate
by J Leslie Turriff 30 Sep '18

30 Sep '18

When customizing my Kate toolbar I ran afoul of something confusing: there are two sets of Save and Save As... icons; one set in Main Toolbar <kate> and the other in Main Toolbar <KatePartView>. I initially used the <kate> ones, which appeared in the default Toolbar Customization dialog, but was disconcerted to find that clicking on Save opened the Sessions -> Save dialog. Eventually I found the ones in <KatePartView>, which save files. Would it be possible to change at least the text that goes with the Session Save icons to avoid such confusion? Leslie

Dsesktop Config Files opened by the wrong application
by Thierry de Coulon 16 Sep '18

16 Sep '18

Allready had that, and I had thought I had found the solution... Happened on two different machines running Debian 9 and TDE (lastest stable): I have links on my desktop (created with right-click/crate new/link to device. One is a link to a local URL Two are links to network shares (nfs) The problem is that when I click on them, instead of opening konqueror, it opens Audacious (that then tries to, first, make a database of all the files and then to play them, which obviously fails). It *has* worked correctly before. On a machine where it works correctly File association shows nothing for *.desktop and *.kdelink; I thought I had solves it once by setting the association with konqueror but it does not seem to work. Acces from konqueror works fine. Thierry

Something like TDE Keyboard Tool in Systray? Or via an command line option? Thanks. Kind regards, Stefan

Another drag and drop problem, this time with Firefox
by iadest＠o2.pl 12 Sep '18

12 Sep '18

Hello I have another problem with drag and drop, it may be a bug but... I don't know how to trace it precisely. Generally in Firefox until version 48, dragging an URL icon (favicon in address bar) to desktop caused opening a menu which allowed to save or link (create .desktop launcher) to a site. This still works in later versions of Firefox in XFCE and MATE, but in TDE since version 48 it started to behave differently: Now Konqueror asks for filename, and then saves just a text file with url as text, and these files are unusable as launchers. This is probably not a Firefox problem, as this dragging still works well in MATE and XFCE without problems. The problem is present only in TDE. Is it possible to give a template to... I don't know, Konqueror?, how to create .desktop file for a specific application or content type? Or is it a problem with not full drag and drop implementation? MCbx

OT - nfs hangs
by Thierry de Coulon 12 Sep '18

12 Sep '18

Hello all, I understand this has nothing to do with trinity, but there seem to be people on this list that understand this stuff more than I do. I've got an older machine (quad core) that I wanted to convert in a network backup. It runs Jessie and mounts an nfs share on my main machine so that I can copy important files. The problem occurs when I transfer bigger quantities of data (I mean several GB, mostly in smaller files of a few hundred MB): - If the server runs Debian stretch, everything is fine. - If the server runs AntiX 17, the copy sooner or later hangs because the server lost the network (the message I got is err_network_changed). there may be another way but I solve the problem by restarting teh machine. Now, the question is this: AntiX 17 is based on stretch. It does not run systemd, nor does it network manager. Network configuration is done with ceni (method static, class auto). The exports file is the same in both cases (copied from Debian to AntiX). If anyone has a clue to give me where to look for this difference in behaviour, I'd be glad! I like AntiX because of no systemd, but... Thierry

kopete IRC #trinity-desktop still alive?
by Stefan Krusche 09 Sep '18

09 Sep '18

Good day everyone, I am trying to connect to #trinity-desktop with kopete and always get an empty chat window. I don't have much experience with kopete/IRC and am frustrated cause I can't find the reason why it doesn't work. I have a few questions about kopete: 1.) Are the server lists still up-to-date and usable? 2.) Do I have to register to join #trinity-desktop? (which wasn't necessary 1 1/2 years ago, IIRC.) 3.) kopete seems to try only one server at connect and after timeout or when it failed (I don't know, no message) it stays offline and doesn't try another or the next server in the list. This happens with #irchelp on EFNet. Also it doesn't always seem to connect to the first server in the list as an priority. Is this normal/expected? However, I am able to connect to other channels like #bash, #freenode-community, #devuan and others. I got stuck and feel puzzled. Kopete's UI doesn't help me either. Please forgive my ignorance and advise on probably basic things. What do I miss? Kind regards, Stefan

Mirroring internal screen
by Thierry de Coulon 07 Sep '18

I cannot use it if I don't "extend the desktop" to it, but then all my apps open stretched overt the two and control is very difficult. I can set the external screen to the same resolution as the internal, but there is no option to just mirror the internal screen on the external. Am I missing some black magic? Thierry

digikam can't save images in PNG format after editing
by Stefan Krusche 05 Sep '18

05 Sep '18

Good day everyone, is anybody using digikam to edit images? I encountered this bug recently, that digikam fails with an only general error message "Failed to save file" when I try to save an image file in PNG format. It is reproducible like this: 1. start digikam 2. open any image to edit 3. save as: select PNG file --> failure Exspected behavior: 3. save as: should save the converted to PNG format image file Other formats seem to work well, I have tried .jpg, .jp2 In ~/.xsession-errors there are some message which may be related: Opening the image file into the editor: TQFile::open: No file name specified TQFile::open: No file name specified Exif Qt::Orientation: 1 Saving: TQFile::open: No file name specified TQFile::open: No file name specified JPEG image preview size: (1280 x 720) pixels - 80124 bytes libpng error: known incorrect sRGB profile digikam: WARNING: error saving image '/home/user/xyz/lnw39a.digikamtempfile.tmp This tmp file is created with zero size and vanishes after clicking ok in the dialog with the error message. Searching the greatest database of all ages taught me that the libpng error message is commonly known and that something had been changed in handling PNG format which I don't understand really, but my guess is that the interaction of digikam with libpng might be affected. System information: TDE R14.0.5 (PSB) digikam 0.9.6 using PNG library version 1.6.28 Devuan ascii Before I try to find out more and/or create a bug report I'd like to ask if anyone has seen this error and knows what to do about it. Any ideas and hints welcome. Kind regards, Stefan

kmail sends attachment but deletes message enroute
by dep 04 Sep '18

04 Sep '18

hi, everybody! i'm using kmail-tde via the protonmail bridge beta for email, and i've encountered a puzzling issue. when i send a message with an attachment, the attachment arrives but the message space is labeled "Empty Message." this is problematic for a number of reasons. of course i first got in touch with the protonmail people, and we went through a few tests -- plain text vs. html and so on -- and no joy. they've pointed out that the only linux client they support, anyway, is thunderbird, so for everything else we're on our own. (i do not like thunderbird and like it even less for its poor support of maildir.) looking in kmail configuration, the lone reference i see for attachments (beside turning on the flag to tell me i used the word "attached" without attaching anything) is some sort of outlook mode, which when checked flings a warning of Very Bad Things if i use it. (fwiw, protonmail bridge does support outlook.) before i check the box, anybody know what's going on with the attachments sending but the messagfs not? btw, they show up just fine in the sent-mail directory. tia. -- dep Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email. Trinity and Konqueror and Image View
by J Leslie Turriff 28 Aug '18

I see that the new release of Trinity is now available (Congrats!), and I'm thinking of replacing OpenSuSE KDE3 with it once again, but I have a question first: In OpenSuSE's KDE3 Konqueror, Image View is available in addition to Photobook, whereas, IIRC, Trinity Konqueror only has Photobook, which I find much less friendly. Is there a way for me to get Image View in the Trinity version of Konqueror? Leslie

R14.0.5 released, new target R14.0.6 will be started...
by Slávek Banko 27 Aug '18

27 Aug '18

Hi everyone, who is currently using Preliminary Stable Builds repository as you have surely noticed, the final R14.0.5 was released. At this time packages in Preliminary Stable Builds (PSB) repository and official R14.0.5 are both based on an identical source packages. If you used the PSB only temporarily, you can now switch to official repository. This is the best time because here are waiting updates to upload into PSB. I suppose the first uploads will be done in early September. You have been warned ;) If you are using PSB deliberately, you can look forward to that soon will launch the first upload of packages for the new target R14.0.6. We will be very happy if you help us in testing the upcoming release. Thank you for your attention :) -- Slávek

stretch problems
by Gene Heskett 24 Aug '18

24 Aug '18

Installed stretch on a fresh hard drive, using a multiple partition setup, default gnome simple install. Broke my eyeballs and will use up a set of batteries in my mouse weekly to get anything done. Its a single user, single tasking system, with a busted terminal emulator, at best. Rebooted back to wheezy and printed the "debian trinity repository installation instructions", then rebooted back to stretch to apply them. Did, but got an odd error with the import key line. Fixed trinity.list for apt of course first. But synaptic did run, tde was clear at the bottom of the left column, but I found it and 45 minutes and about 1100MB of downloads later I thought I had enough tde to run. R14.0.5 FWIW. Rebooted to stretch, was greeted by the trinity login greeter, thought I was home free, but it was quiet for about 45 seconds after I entered the pw. Then boom, I'm looking at the worthless gnome screen again. During the install, I was asked which manager to use and clicked on tdm-trinity. But its not sticking, and I can't mount the stretch drive and edit it, theres enough diffs between the ext4's that it refuses to mount from wheezy. And if I add it to wheezy's fstab, the reboot locks up and I have to use the root pw to get a shell and # sign that line back out of wheezy'd fstab. Hopefully I will not have that problem in reverse because there's about 150 GB of stuff on the old wheezy drive to copy over. I did that, and I could read a dir or 3, but when I rebooted to wheezy again, it had to do a 20 minute e2fsck of the wheezy drive, which it did w/o reporting any errors. Looks like I need help before I really screw this up. So first, what do I edit or nuke to get rid of the gnome over-ride? Thanks. -- Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. TDE, Debian Install Wiki page (unclear/errors?)
by Michael 23 Aug '18

23 Aug '18

I stumbled across this from the TDE, Devuan Wiki page, and unfortunately I don’t have enough knowledge of Debian to know what a proper fix, or additional wording for a clarification, for these would be. Ref: https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/DebianInstall > Section: 4.1 Fresh R14.0.x installation lists TDE v3.5.13.2 instructions… (I can’t really tell, but I think a header got left out?) > Section: 4.2 Upgrading from an existing R14.0.x or v3.5.13.x installation has the command, “sudo aptitude full-upgrade” Per Googling, “full-upgrade is the former dist-upgrade” Per, https://debian-handbook.info/browse/stable/sect.apt-get.html “such as the change from one major Debian version to the next, you need to use apt full-upgrade” Whatever the correct instructions are, is being forced to upgrade from say ‘7.x - wheezy’ to ‘9.x - stretch’ accurate? But, that does seem to directly conflict with the information presented in “1.1 R14.0.x series,” which implies I can stay on ‘7.x - wheezy’ and install R14x. # # # Would someone add some additional appropriate information to that page? And if the distribution upgrade is a requirement, also add some really ‘bold’ warnings? Best, Michael

Is there a setting somewhere to make konqueror preserve file dates when copying/moving files from pane to pane? I do not see any such thing in konqueror's settings. My Big Need is in copying/moving files off my camera's SD card... Thanks, Jonesy

Bug !
by Baron 21 Aug '18

Hi Guys, Running Q4OS 64bit on an AMD dual core machine, Trinity desktop, R14.0.4 I think I might have stumbled on a bug. This morning I sent some Jpg images via Kmail 1.9.10 enterprise 35 0.20100827.1168748. I had three in a directory. I did "Cnrtl A" and selected all three to attach them to the mail. The first image was ignored and not attached. I tried with multiple images a couple of times, in each try the first item was ignored. I thought I had better mention it. Thanks guys, brilliant work. -- Best Regards: Baron

Ksensors - The Saga

Hello Humans, AIs and others. I'm trying to get hd temps to show up on ksensors as user on a 64bit pclos setup. As user I have video, cpu (everything cpu) but no hd temp. They show up as root, though. Is there a command to allow user access to hddtemp? This is literally the last obstacle to having this rig perfect. Thanks to all in advance, Kate The Great and Grumpy

Hi all! I have upgraded an old installation to 14.0.5 + devuan ascii. If I recall correctly there should pop up a dialog when I insert a video dvd. Somehow this dialog is gone - mst likely the user selected the "never ask again"-checkmark on said dialog. But how do I get that dialog back? Or better, where does TDE save that setting? problem with tdenetworkmanager on raspberry pi 3
by lee jones 18 Aug '18

18 Aug '18

Hello all! Having a problem here with tde's network manager. I'm using a raspberry pi 3 here along with the latest version of raspbian stretch lite. However after installing tde which works fine the tde network manager does not seem to be finding any wifi networks. The tdenetworkmanager does see a wired network ok however. I can confirm the wifi is working properly as I can run iwlist wlan0 scan | grep ESSID and see a list of wireless networks. There also isn't anything in /etc/network/interfaces . If I run tdenetwork manually from within tde but at a command line I do get some messages however: [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: gpiochip1 type: (null) subsystem: gpio driver: (null) [Node Path: /dev/gpiochip1] [Syspath: /sys/devices/gpiochip1] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: gpiochip128 type: (null) subsystem: gpio driver: (null) [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/gpiochip1/gpio/gpiochip128] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan0 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan0] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan1 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan1] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan2 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan2] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan3 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan3] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan4 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan4] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan5 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan5] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan6 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan6] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan7 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan7] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan8 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan8] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: dma0chan9 type: (null) subsystem: dma driver: bcm2835-dma [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f007000.dma/dma/dma0chan9] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: gpiochip0 type: (null) subsystem: gpio driver: pinctrl-bcm2835 [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f200000.gpio/gpio/gpiochip0] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: gpiochip0 type: (null) subsystem: gpio driver: (null) [Node Path: /dev/gpiochip0] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f200000.gpio/gpiochip0] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: mmc1:0001:1 type: (null) subsystem: sdio driver: brcmfmac [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f300000.mmc/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:0001/mmc1:0001:1] [(null):(null)] [FIXME] UNCLASSIFIED DEVICE name: mmc1:0001:2 type: (null) subsystem: sdio driver: brcmfmac [Node Path: (null)] [Syspath: /sys/devices/platform/soc/3f300000.mmc/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:0001/mmc1:0001:2] [(null):(null)] WARNING: [void Tray::createDeviceTrayComponent(TQString)] UDI: /sys/devices/virtual/net/lo/lo has unknown devicetype: 11 Not sure what is going wrong here x.x ! ljones

For TDE upgrade to R14.0.5 should any TDE packages be held back?
by Michael 18 Aug '18

My day to ask the list odd questions??? Is it normal to have these TDE packages being held back (below)? Installing TDE in Devuan

Tried following instructions on Trinity website but keep seeing broken tde packages in Synaptic and aptitude. Maybe I'm using an invalid combination of repositories and distributions. Thanks in advance - RP

Is there a way to copy weird named files form Konqueror?
by Thierry de Coulon 16 Aug '18

16 Aug '18

Hello all, That's probably not a Trinity problem, but I'd love to solve it under Trinity. I recently ordered a double CD with music from Albinoni (not that he has anything to do with my problem). When I inserted the CD it mounted and, to my amazement, I saw that there were directories with compresed files, including ogg-vorbis files (which is the format I store my music in). However, the amazement was short-lived. All these files have names as: Albinoni, Tomaso - 01 - Concerto No. 1 for Violin in B flat major, Op. 9%2F1: 1. Allegro.ogg And konqueror does not manage to copy them. I can rip them with k3b, but I find it frustrating that the files are there and I can't use them :) Thierry

I love konq. That said, I use Krusader as an archiving tool. In that respect, it excels. In general is a good straight forward file manager, but to me, it's an archiver. Then there's the essential and immortal MC, the little hero. Kate

How to change theme alternating row colors?
by Michael 14 Aug '18

14 Aug '18

Hi All, Sometimes you should leave well enough alone… On Monday 13 August 2018 10:06:37 am Michael wrote: > Ah, oops?, in TCC >> Theme Manager it shows a complete blank, so I'm > guessing I have no theme selected, so it's using some default from don't > know where... So, I changed my theme to one of the ones installed, but every theme tested so far sets the alternating row colors so dark it’s unreadable. This is affecting Konqueror, KMail, and probably a lot more. I’m trying to set the alternating row color to something like the selected text color. See attached. The theme also keeps moving the Panel from the bottom to the left, even when the Panel is locked at the bottom. I found, and read, the instructions on how to make/modify a new theme, which I’ve done. But, I can’t seem to find where in ‘Customize your theme:’ to change these two settings: - Where do you set: the alternating row colors? - Where do you set: where the Panel defaults to? Thanks, Michael PS: Konqueror throws a fit trying to load the TDE themes website, https://store.kde.org/ , “script causing TDEHTML to freeze.” Works fine in Firefox.

Alway some confusion
by Marvin Jones 14 Aug '18

14 Aug '18

In Ubuntu/TDE there is a `kate` and a `kate-trinity`. However, there is no `kwrite-trinity`. I'm always afraid to install some k-something-or-the-other` -- without a -trinity suffix and end up thereby with a $##t-pot-full of KDE 4 or KDE 5 crap. That happened to me several Ubuntu's ago.... It appears the `kwrite` I just installed runs Just Fine in TDE 14.0.5 How is a person to know what to install besides doing an `apt-cache search k-something-or-the-other` for every kabc...xyz? Even more confusion..... I just (apt-get) installed kiconedit-trinty and khexedit-trinity. After the install was finished there was no kiconedit: $ kiconedit The program 'kiconedit' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt install kiconedit huh?!?!? But, I did find that there was a `tdeiconedit`. So now I believe I will put a symlink for `kiconedit` in my $HOME/bin/... I do not believe I wanted to install simple 'kiconedit'...... However, khexedit was installed Just Fine. Jonesy -- <pre> Marvin L Jones | Marvin | W3DHJ | linux Pueblo, Colorado | @ | Jonesy | FreeBSD __ 38.238N 104.547W | jonz.net | DM78rf | OS/2 SK

Hey All, I've added a couple sections to https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Tips_And_Tricks . Looking for more methods for ‘Un-Bogging down an Older system.’ If you don’t have Wiki access, post to the list and I’ll add it for you (sometime next week...). Best, Michael

Strange window display
by Marvin Jones 13 Aug '18

13 Aug '18

I am building a new workstation -- running Ubuntu 16.04 -- to replace an old and failing workstation. I used the TDE ISO to get 'things' started. Several of my programs are displaying in a weird window format. (I am not sure if attachments are permitted, but) Attached are a couple of examples Display_OK.png --- is a zenity --info --title=Display_OK --text="Hello World" running on my "failing" workstation. Display_snafu.png --- is the same zenity --info --title=Display_OK --text="Hello World" running on the new workstation. Bluefish_snafu.png --- is bluefish running on the new workstation. I see the same for the AisleRiot solitaire program. No doubt it is something "simple", but nothing comes to mind. After this mornings update, my graphics menu is empty
by Gene Heskett 07 Aug '18

07 Aug '18

Greetings all; Still on wheezy. Sometime in the last 3-4 days, maybe not this mornings update, I needed to get some stuff out of my camera today, which I normally do with digicam. Chaseing the rodent up the menu list popup, I stop at graphics, expecting a lengthy popup. Wait, but nothing. Didn't that use to be kbuildcycoca or similar to restore that stuffs? On further poking at this yellowjackets nest with kmenuedit, I find its all there, but buried an extra level deep, and does not show that extra level depth with a line item in the menu itself. Call up the kmenuedit handbook and look up copy/paste intending to move it all back to where it belongs, but theres no reaction to highlighting the extra level and pressing control+c, then moving back and highlighting the top level menu where it belongs and pressing control+V. No user feedback whatsoever. So I decide to quit that as its obviously broken. BUT! When I quit, it updates everything. So I go back to the graphics line, and voila! Its all back where it belongs. I remember it used to do that, but while you were adjusting stuff so you could see the results in a few seconds. When did it start waiting until you quit? Bad dog, no biscuit. -- Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Thoughts on Devuan 2.0.0 (ASCII) w/ only TDE (-systemd)?
by Michael 06 Aug '18

06 Aug '18

Hi All, Based upon many valuable comments and shared thoughts from this list, I’m find myself in the anti systemd group. With this pretty much being the best, non-biased, comparison of Debian (or any systemd OS) and Devuan (e.g. a non systemd OS) that I found to solidify my opinions on systemd: https://blog.ungleich.ch/en-us/cms/blog/2017/12/10/the-importance-of-devuan/ Do Note: The author does use an [overly] dramatic introduction, so please do read all 878 words of his article. I believe you’ll find the considerations his conclusion brings up well worth the 5-10 minutes of your time it takes to get there. And then Bill commented in another thread: On Sunday 05 August 2018 11:48:18 am William Morder wrote: > I've never been able to do a > successful installation directly from a Devuan disc, but must install > Debian, then Devuan, then TDE, then uninstall LibreOffice and install > OpenOffice, etc. And cannot do net install here, so I need to use a live > disc. If my circumstances were different, then I would probably take a > different approach. Which lead me to this: Linked From: https://devuan.org/os/partners/devuan-distros > Exe GNU/Linux > Devuan-based Live Linux Images with Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) > https://sourceforge.net/projects/exegnulinux/ > > Exe GNU/Linux live images are based on Devuan and use Trinity > Desktop Environment (TDE). Versions for i386 and amd64 are available. > see [1] also Bill might this solve your issue(s)? Now finally my question(s)... :) - Is anyone using Devuan 2.0.0 (ASCII) w/ TDE installed? - - If so any issues? Ah, never mind the next Q: “Devuan package repositories are exclusive. Other repositories, including Debian’s, should NOT be used directly.” - Can external (deb?/ppa?) packages be added to Devuan similar to Ubuntu? - - Would you use the corresponding Debian release? Example: > # cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera-stable.list > # This file makes sure that Opera Browser is kept up-to-date > # as part of regular system upgrades > > deb https://deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free #Opera Browser (final releases) - So the only choice for Opera, LibreOffice, etc., is to manually install from a downloaded .deb? Okay, last question... From the standpoint of wanting the leanest system possible with only software I’ve specifically installed: - Would it make the most sense to install the Exe GNU/Linux above, then upgrade in place to Devuan 2 and then TDE R14.0.5? - Or is there a way to install just a bare bones, console only Devuan? I do the second with dedicated servers under CentOS 6 all the time, but it’s the hosting firm that’s doing the initial system build to ‘base’ (and of course each likes to call it a different name, ‘base,’ ‘bare,’ ‘init’), which has much less overhead than the published RH/CentOS ‘minimal’ install profile. So, I’m guessing it can be done, but the Devuan website doesn’t have much beyond how to do a ‘full’ install. If the second method is the way to go, does anyone have a favorite write up on how it’s done with Debian I can use to guide me through doing the same with Devuan? Best and Thanks! Michel [1] Referential Note: https://sourceforge.net/p/exegnulinux/discussion/general/thread/fdff84f2/?l… Mike Hunt - 2018-05-05 Hello, I have been running this distro for a while now, but after some months became puzzled over why I didn't receive any single update. I found out that Devuan's Update and Security repos were not added anywhere; after adding them the updates tickled in. Is this an oversight?

update this morning=347 pkgs from trinity?
by Gene Heskett 02 Aug '18

02 Aug '18

Greetings all; Not really fussing but 340 of them will never be used on this particular machine, Its running linuxcnc, eg no audio except maybe possibly a whispered beep from the computers own speaker. No tv either. But, I'll do this machine next, and it does have a problem, absolutely nothing in the menu's that can play an .mp3. I get the apps gui, and its animated likes its playing the .mp3, but nothing can coax a peep out of my speakers. The only cli app, aplay, reproduced it as 11 minutes of unmodulated pink noise. Does it seem possible to fix this? I had to hunt thru the bin directory's to find a copy of mplayer2 that would play it, sorta. .mp3 are always a little muddy, but this was very poorly done. The music wasn't too bad, but the voices weren't at all understandable. Have I forgotten just how crappy a 160 kilobit .mp3 sounds? A 44.1kilobit recording that alsa had to pump up to 48k, which probably didn't help. The original came from a windows machine that never heard how good an .ogg can sound. Traceing thru the linkage from /usr/bin/mplayer, a link that points back to /etc/alternatives/mplayer, which itself is a link to /usr/bin/mplayer1 which does not exist. Can this be fixed? That does seem to be the real problem, and its not something I can recall piddling with. -- Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Local Icon Directory
by Kate Draven 31 Jul '18

31 Jul '18

Hi People! I feel like I've forgotten the keyboard for select all (Hyperdrive - see it). Here's the job. I want to use a local icon image dir within the use dir /home/foo/icon-collection and then have custom shortcuts use it. I've tried Icon=$HOME/icon-collection/coolicon.png Icon=~/icon-collection/coolicon.png I just want all custom shortcuts to point the same icon dir, regardless of user. I have to set up some machines for the senior centre. I don't want to have to write out each user. I know there's a way, but I can't seem to remember it or find it on google. It's likely something simple like ctrl A. I know I've used it before on red hate but I can't remember. I've already created a temporary cheat by symlinking the icon to /usr but I'd rather do it the right way. Thanks to all in advance. Kate -------------------------------------------------------

Remove Evolution? (and any other stealth installed phone home services)
by Michael 29 Jul '18

29 Jul '18

Hi All, I’m running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS, Trusty Tahr with TDE as my only desktop installed. I do have some Gnome (and probably KDE) odds and ends programs installed as well. I’ll also agree I’m pretty much a Luddite and have no desire for anything on my box talking to anyone on the Internet without my knowledge and express permission. tl:dr Q1: How do you find phone home services? Q2: How do you remove them? Q3: If Ubuntu isn’t it, what is? apt-get upgrade reported this morning that it wants to update “evolution-data-server-online-accounts.” Minor digging into wtf is this evolution thing (and why does it think it can phone home without me knowing it?) shows it’s a Gnome component that’s apparently very hard to remove. [a] In that digging I find several other services that seem to phone home without my knowledge or permission? michael@local [~]# ls -1 /usr/share/dbus-1/services {full list at [b]} com.google.code.AccountsSSO.SingleSignOn.service com.nokia.SingleSignOn.Backup.service com.nokia.singlesignonui.service and ??? musicstore-scope.service unity-scope-facebook.service unity-scope-flickr.service unity-scope-openclipart.service unity-scope-video-remote.service unity-scope-yelp.service Also in that digging, it seems that basically the only true way to get evolution (and its ilk) to stop bothering you is to: sudo mv /usr/lib/evolution /usr/lib/evolution-fu (see [a], Answer, “None of the above helped me”), which is a bit non-intuitive. Very cute though... I’m left with questions... Q1) With our resorting to something like Wireshark, how does one find all the packages that have phone home capabilities? Q2) As ‘apt-get --purge remove’ doesn’t seem to work all the time, what’s the safest way to remove/disable them? I went to Ubuntu (from CentOS) a couple years ago because it’s suppose to be ‘easier’ and it does do multimedia much better, but it doesn’t really seem to concern itself with customer ‘privacy.’ Q3) In the event this can’t be done in Ubuntu, is there a TDE supported *nix variation that may be ‘harder,’ but doesn’t just add a bunch of anti-privacy crap willy nilly? I guess I don’t really mind going back to (re)compiling things on each OS up-rev (libre, gimp, etc...), but it is a bit of a pita if there’s an alternative... I immediately determined I dont't want this thing so I did a "dpkg -l | grep evolution". The command returned a bunch of packages related to evolution I dont't remember I installed so I removed all of them completely with Synaptic. Then I rebooted and nothing I need was missing so I conclude that it was a good occasion to remove crap I never I asked for :-) Regards, Pascal

Slackware - Volkerding - libart_lgpl
by gregory guy 28 Jul '18

28 Jul '18

If some of you are Slackware devotees, looking at the last changelog (Fri Jul 27 21:01:22 UTC 2018) is huge relief, P.Volkerding is not any longer in need for money, at least at the short therm. Here is the changelog for the curious ones: http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware64-current/ChangeLog.txt Following the next comment in the changelog, you'll see that libart_lgpl have been remove in "current", as a result we will have to install libart_lgpl provided by the trinity project as it comes, meaning no more "upgrade libart_lgpl" just plain "installpkg..." switch user could be better

I'm experimenting running some things with a seond user. It's possible to configure a key (in my case "Pause", which seems I never ever pressed in my life an does nothing otherwise) to do "swtch user". However, you then have to select this user (which the is locked, although I never asked for a lock). Would there be any way to have a "move to the next user" function? As I only have two users, I fon't need a choice :) Thierry
